Ok so I just saw the preview for the new Charlie's Angels series for 2011 and it looks really good! Call me a sucker for the franchise but that is me. This new incarnation looks awesome, the girls look GREAT and it's all contemporay so it should be difficult for this show to fail. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2P_jP76qqI

I actually watched most of the original run of Charlie's Angels about 6 months ago. The first season and a half was pretty good, after that it was still good, but not great, until season 5. Then, it was horrible. I don't know how Tanya Roberts gets acting jobs because she sure can't act.
There were a couple of interesting prophetic bits in Charlie's Angels that I will share.
1) There was an episode with Timothy Dalton. He played a thief, and was called a James Bond-like character. This was afew years before he played James Bond.
2) There was an episode with a game designer, and he had designed a video game where you got points by running over pedestrians and squashing things. In this episode - in the late '70s - it was all viewed as in very bad taste. Different story nowadays.

The preview looked good. My only concern is that this is a reboot and the reason I really enjoyed the movies was because they were a continuation of previous continuity and NOT a reboot. Still, sexxy Bosley has potential.....

How do you know for sure that this version will be a reboot? I heard that it is the story of the next trio of Angels, and that if it goes well the characters of Natalie, Dylan and Alex might do cameos!? This would make it a continuation.
This is highly likely given that Drew Barrymore is executive producer on the show.

I saw it described in an article in Entertainment Weekly as a reboot. That word is being used so loosely these days, I'm not really sure what it means. It looks like a "new version" to me.
The interesting twist is that the new girls all seem to have been in trouble with the law in the past. The original 70s angels were all recent police academy graduates. That is until Tonya Roberts came along. She was a model.

Oh, and by the way. I need to confess that I owned Cheryl Ladd's 1978 album and knew the words to every song... Should I be proud or embarrassed? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShSA8IbPDnk

Hey Rick, Pez dispensers are pretty phallic, so I think you're right.
One thing I've always wondered about the movies being a continuation: they used the same Charlie voice (John Forsythe), but who was Bill Murray's Bosley supposed to be? Was his relation to David Doyle's Bosley stated or left unmentioned?

Jerry, since she was a profesional singer before she was an actress, I don't see anything to be embarassed about.
As for Bosley...maybe there's always a Bosley, regardless of whatever that person's real name is?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShSA8IbPDnk Thank you Jerry for this awesome link! It was a nice stroll down memory lane. I remember how in love I was with Cheryl Ladd at the time and I truly supported her song when it came out (seriously too ... calling all the local radio stations and requesting her song be played over and over again - LMAO!) Come to think of it I took turns falling in and out of love with ALL the Angels over those years ... but my first true love was and always will be the immortal Farrah Fawcett (-Majors).

This series debuts Thursday night - I've already got my DVR set for it. I seem to hate almost everything on TV nowadays, so we'll see what I think.

Well, I never got into charlies angels in the 70's because where I lived, we only got local, and that was CBS until like 1980, and then the local abc affiliate barely got out of flotown if I recall correctly. We lived in the dead zone for aerial reception. We could actually get stuff from Charleston better than stuff from florence. And both were bad and sucked majorly.
for all that, I liked Kate Jackson best of the three. Smokey voice, tight figure, lean but sexy. Worked for me.

I was always a Jaclyn Smith fan myself. How can you possibly top that face? Some of the episodes where she is dancing while not wearing a bra are life-changing. I honestly never understood the whole Farrah craze, because I thought Jaclyn Smith was so much prettier.

Yeah, there were days, even when I was a kid, that I thanked god for women burning bras.

Farrah Fawcett-Majors once attributed the show's success to this fact: "When the show was number three, I figured it was our acting. When it got to be number one, I decided it could only be because none of us wears a bra."
Of course, the show was so popular because it appealed to females as well. There had never - as far as I know - been a show before where the women solved the crimes, shot the guns, drove the cars really fast, and not one of them ever had a steady boyfriend. They were portrayed as successful and independent, and I think a lot of women watched the show and thought the Angels' lifestyles seemed pretty cool.

Ok, I finished watching the first episode. It wasn't bad. It didn't make me want to watch another episode. Pretty cool gimmick in the opening credits and the first few minutes of the show, though.

Yeah, that was pretty much my take. Not bad by any stretch, but not anything to get excited about.

For a new show in today's competition (X Factor)I thought it did well. The girls all did a good job with it. I can't wait until they explore a bit of their "dark" pasts. Even the new Bosley was no angel before he went to work for Charlie.

There was a Bosley family and when one 'Bosley' left the agency, another took his place. Bill Murray's Bosley was adopted and I would presume David Doyle's was as well since (like Murray) he looked nothing like the rest of the family. The current Bosley looks nothing like the family either... did it say if he was adopted?
