I'm usually a critic of fanfiction, but this has piqued my curiosity. And the Legion has so many members, but who could be possible recruits in the 31st century? It could be from pre-existing homeworlds, powers, etc.

How many times do I have to die?!?

I'd actually like to see a team of Legionnaires-who-never-were play some kind of key role in FC:L3W. Characters from all across continuity, like Superman-X, Devil-Fish, Quantum Queen, Foxmoor, Sizzle...

When you write that one up and get going on the designs, please have Superman-X lose the mullet. That's all I ask, really.

Yah know,
I'd love to see Quantum Queens powers rethought nd her look redone (hate the series version.)

And as Mystery Lad and I have talked about somewhere else, I'd really like to see a Black Orchid.
In the Vertigo mini, we saw a number of her plant buds/clones in various stages of maturity, in the rainforest that is her home.

I'd also love to see the 'Firestorm' elemental approach to Sun Boy, some connection more to the past and as a grounding for his personality ~ a purpose.

Since I'm playing, I'd like a water bender and some sort of earth former.

The earth mover could be related to Terra/Geoforce or through the 2 .LEGION characters made of stone.

The water bender could be a descendent of Mera from Aquaman.

While I'm at it, I want Shikari, Gates, Gear, XS and Sizzle, too!
lol

I had a lot of fun with a water controller concept. She couldn't *create* water, so she had to carry some around with her, but since she could animate it, it pretty much carried itself (and her along with it, as she rode a wave of water around, much as Terra rode a big flying rock). Being able to freeze water into ice and still animate it would allow such a character to do a sideways version of Mera's 'hard water' trick, forming armor, shield and / or weapons of ice, which are as light as air to her (as her power is animating them, not her muscles), and she'd be able to repair damage to her ice armor with a thought, freezing it back together if it is damaged. She'd even perhaps be able to cushion impacts on her own body, when not clad in icy armor, as the human(oid) body is chock full of water in every cell. By having the water *inside her body* absorb impact, she'd seem superhumanly tough, or even strong!

A water controller could kick much booty! Give her the extra power to create water (just as Sun Boy can create fire, even in vacuum, where fire couldn't actually exist, with nothing to burn), and she'd be even more versatile. (Although I'm actually kind of fond of powers having limitations, and kept my water controller unable to create her own water, or even to breath underwater, being a surface-dweller with aquakinetic powers!)

A Terra/Geo-Force connected earth controller would also make sense, given that both Geo-Force and Terra have proven able to return from the dead, because of their ties to the earth. Such a character might make a logical choice for a 'home guard' Legionnaire, who doesn't go off-world, due to his intense spiritual / mystical / whatever ties to the planet.

My own \'Rejects\' team included a water controller, someone with a much upgraded version of Ron-Karr's powers, a healer / life-force manipulator, a light-based character (not like Sun Boy, with fire powers, but purely light based, with blinding attacks, lasers, illusions, invisibility, etc.), a bouncing character inspired by Bouncing Boy, a walking chemical laboratory inspired by Chemical King, a time-manipulator, someone with Deflection/Reflection powers, etc.

Of course, the craziest alternate Legionnaire I came up with was Teen Darkseid, from a universe where Brainiac convinced his teammates that it was fairly pointless to go back in time and recruit someone who was already fated to be a legendary superhero, like a bunch of super-groupies, when they could go back in time and recruit someone whose life could be changed for the better...

Many of the crazy ideas from Bits of Legion Business letter columns could be fun to cast as Academy trainees, Rejects or 'new Subs.'

I did a bit of Fanfic based on 'Geography Girl' and 'Weapons Lad.'

Others like 'Molecule Boy' and 'Negative Nell' and 'Water Lad' could also make neat Legionnaires, or wannabes.

I love these ideas, wonderful.

Have you ever seen the cartoon on NKTOON called
Avatar: The Last Air Bender?

The first water benders there were the Spirits of the Moon and the Sea.
The humans were given water abilities that can move water with the rhythms of the tides, building on that movement and control.

Among their abilites, they can freeze water like you suggested, use their sweat as a source of escape or weapon, make plants move and act as extensions of their will, absorb impacts, make walls and prisons, wear it as armor, as a sourse of healing and even use the blood to control animal/human movement.

They seemed only limited by their imaginations.

The others are air, fire and earth benders.
I love elementals!

Your light creature sounds like what I want Quantum Queen to be. She's a little like one of Marvels characters, too.
On a couple of BBC series, there is a race of light beings. Very beautiful but somehow hard looking.

Thanks for posting sites where I can read your stories, Set.
Spring Break begins next week and now I know how to spend part of it!

These can be used either way.

*Cosmic Queen: Wexelle, or Wyxla, a Braalian and a major fan of Cosmic Boy. She based herself two members of the LSV as a middle finger to them. She even exposed herself to the same device that gave Cosmic King his transmutative abilities. She can't control both at once, and is still a novice at using them.

*Bellpepper Pete: All he has to do is eat vegetables like peppers and he can regurgitate this really awful looking acidic vomit that kinda looks like dark green guacamole.

*The White Prince: Can transform into a number of animals, all white. A white crane, horse, dragon, serpent, etc. Although no alien animals are in his dossier.

*Pulse Princess: Based off of Ayla's "Pulse" identity, this girl can send out an EMP wave and shorten out all electromagnetic devices. Although she needs to take some time before she does it again.

*Time Turner: A hero similar to Kid Quantum, he can actually freeze someone in time, but the longer he does it the harder it is to keep his concentration.

*Necromancy Queen: An enemy of the White Witch. She has the power of magic which she channels through the souls of the dead. She's based on a drawing Jokester did of a woman named Necru.

*Comet Kid: Able to propel himself like a comet, although he is not invulnerable and has to wear shielding to protect himself from the impact.

*Luck Lass: The Annie Foxmoor of New Earth, with probability manipulating powers. She got this when she was dating Calamity King and, during a bizarre lab accident she got a version of his powers. This is unlucky for her because she was hoping for super strength like Supergirl.

I'll pass on Bellpepper Pete, thanks.

A water bender could be a particularly lethal villain, as well, given the high percentage of water in human (and likely other sentients') bodies.

Maybe Elysion from Terror Firma, with the earth-moving abilities, could have a sibling who would want to atone for brother's evil deeds, and join the Legion.

While it's not a universally loved idea, I've always liked the idea of a few legacy characters in the Legion. Somewhere in the 30th century, there are descendents of the 20th century Thanagarians and Amazons and Atlanteans and Tamaranians and the various Vegan races (of Omega Men fame, including traditionally non-heroic races like the Psions or Okaraan Warlords, who may have changed in the last 1000 years!). A Legionnaire from Elu's race would be neat, for instance. Heck, a Spider Guild hero would make for a head-turner, as that race becoming integrated and non-malevolent in a 1000 years would be quite the dramatic change!

To take a page from Star Trek, which has evolved the Klingons (and, to a lesser extent, the Cardassians) from cold-war style 'bad-guys' to strong (if sometimes unreliable) allies, the aliens considered horrible menaces in the 20th century could be 'just another race' in the 30th, while the Khunds, Dominators and / or Gil'Dishpan are the shiny new threats, a la the Borg.

Another idea would be to take the various Legion origins and see what *else* could be mined from them. Braalians supposedly evolved magnetic powers to protect themselves from metallic monsters. What if some of these native Braalian 'metal monsters' are sentient and potential allies? What if someone, inspired by Ultra Boy's life-story, did research on one of the 'space dragons' and spliced it's DNA into her own, giving her a reptilian appearance and ultra-energy powers? What if a Coluan, tired of being looked down upon by his peers, chose to become a *social* genius, a master of psychology, able to manipulate others with a degree of proficiency that appears downright telepathic (or applied his enormous brain to physical matters, becoming a Karate Kid-level 'martial arts genius!')?

A Durlan 'specialist' might be able to manipulate their cells in such a way to infiltrate the bodies of others, and move them around from within, to heal injuries, wreak havoc on their bodily systems or just 'ride' someone around, like a puppet!

The powers of Legionnaires (or their allies, or their *foes!*) could also spawn new potential Legionnaires. Saturn Girl could have a temporary split personality episode, after an encounter with a powerful psychic attacker, and the persona could live on as a bodiless psychic entity, after being 'exorcised' from her mind. Wildfire's anti-energy could become infected with a quasi-sentient Teallian virus, and spawn a new energy creature. Life Lass could 'give life' to a robotic defender and the creature could somehow retain it's 'life' and develop sentience, becoming a hero in it's own right. White Witch could conjure up a critter for a specific encounter, only to have it blasted by something that prevents it from returning to whatever mystical realm she called it from, so that the faerie / demon / genie / whatever ends up sticking around it's new mortal allies.

The Emerald Eye of Ekron might tell Sarya to get bent and strike off on it's own, using it's powers as the newest Legionnaire!

And there's always Dave Cockrum's old ideas. Nightcrawler makes a good fit for the Legion, as would some of the other Outsiders and Devastators.

Having Belladonna be a former lab assistant to Brin Londo's father, given bat-DNA-derived 'vampire powers' in a manner similar to how Brin was given wolf-DNA-dervived 'werewolf powers,' would tie the character to a pre-existing Legionnaire.

Emphasis on "a few legacy characters." It's just when they start crowding the place that I start to get all grumpy and twitchy.

Set, this water controller would pair well with Polar Boy, since he can generate snow/ice for her to manipulate. She'd never run out of water! But Brek would probably be smitten with her...
