I just found out that Enterprise and Smallville are going to be on AT THE SAME TIME this year. Frick and frack. Those are just about the ONLY two shows I watch (other than the Fox animated shows on Sunday, and certain reality shows). Well, at least there are always the weekend "E-Z VUE" (or however they spell it) re-runs...

Standard op. The genre shows often end up facing each other, as the networks compete for that crowd.

Diane Warren......ick. [/b]I second that ick. Comparing that piece of 80's style corniness to the themes to either TOS or TNG is a losing proposition. Neither DS9 or Voyager had much by way of themes either though.

I've only watched "Enterprise" a few times, and generally enjoyed it. The cast is interesting and Bakula makes a most unconventional captain. But I felt that the episodes tended to be too, er, episodic, as eventually happened with the other Trek series. There's no real tension.
Unlike Grey, I don't think that the setting is the cause of the problem. The pre-Federation era has had some details revealed over the years, but there is much that can still be mined from it. Even if you do know all the basic details, studying history can be fun when you get into the personalities and politics and thinking that made history happen. "Enterprise" could be used to that advantage, e.g., we already know what happened, now here's why it happened.
But, from what I've seen, it's just another episodic space adventure series.

As for Nemesis, I didn't care for it. Video game effects and a couple of unbelievable plot developments spoiled the story, as did the huge "trap door" they built in for a certain character's eventual return.

The previous Trek film was hamstringed by the fact that the Dominion war was being dealt with in "DS9", but "Nemesis" was free to deal with issues that affected the whole Federation and the space politics that had been set in place by the various series. Unfortunately, it was a "small" story that (as others have pointed out) was a blatant retread of "Wrath of Khan".
I also thought the whole "clone of Picard" aspect was done badly because the actor didn't really seem like a younger version of Picard. If a digitally "youthenized" version of Stewart were the adversary maybe those scenes would have been more dramatic, but it didn't really come across to me.

Trek has been going downhill since the last season of DS9 (which I love but having watched the last season over the past few weeks I have come to realise that the cracks were beginning to show). Voyager whilst having a few good points was on the whole a waste of time. I've only seen the pilot of Enterprise and one other episode (where the Brit is stapled to the hull of their ship by a mine and we are inflicted of 45 mins of should we kill him or not tedium) and frankly I will not go near it.
Why can't anyone write a good Vulcan any more?

I thought Tuvok, on the whole, was a good Vulcan.

I agree with KP -- Tuvok was a very good Vulcan. Jolene Blalock plays an "emotional" Vulcan (emotional for a Vulcan anyway).
The season premiere didn't really excite me (well, except for the topless T'Pol scene maybe). -- The theme song: what the hell did they do to it?!?! Some people never liked it, but I did -- until now. They sped it up a bit and made it upbeat. -- sexing up T'Pol: just more and more blatant. I doubt they'll wait seven years before inducing another Pan Phar. I am kind of interested in her possibly getting romantic with Trip. -- the army guys: slam bang action. Don't need it. Give them red shirts and be done with it. -- the war: boring so far.

The cast each seemed to have their own lives and adventures and Sisko was certainly capable, but it never seemed to me like they would follow him through hell. Part of it was they didn't even have a conference room where they could all get together and Sisko could show his leadersip of the group. The Dominion war was interesting, but paled in comparison to Babylon 5's various wars, so that really hurt it. -- I think "Voyager" had it all ove "DS9" in terms of creating an ensemble where they all had good chemistry and a genuine devotion to one another and especially Captain Janeway. I thought there was too much focus on The Doctor and Seven of Nine and the stories were pretty formulaic.

Oh yeah, regarding the premiere -- that alien council made me think that since Trek is going down the toilet, why don't these guys (and the "Farscape guys") all get together and just do a "Legion" series! Optimistic future with multi-alien teamwork, good looking teenagers -- it'll be a hit on the WB!

Btw, I almost couldn't believe my eyes -- *two* asians on the crew at the same time?!?!? Sharing a scene, no less -- usually, there's just one token from an ethnic group (black, asian, vulcan, klingon, what have you), but seeing two at once made me feel like the space time continuum was going to implode or something...

No kidding. Other than Hoshi, I think that was the only Asian who's been seen on Enterprise since the show started.
I'm not sure what I think about T'Pol's new, more colorful wardrobe. I don't mind it, but I doubt it'll do much to attract a wider audience. Plus, though she's an undeniable hottie, I sometimes get tired of the fact that T'Pol perenially looks either tired or annoyed.
I also thought that Scott Bakula was overacting a bit in the last episode... trying too hard to come across as aggressive, and mostly seeming agitated.
Tomorrow's episode looks OK, but if the whole episode is just meant to prove how hard-assed Captain Archer is now, I'll probably be a bit bored.

Nemesis - huh? probably too easy to predict of what will happen when watching...kind of boring. I mean, when you watch that movie, you can figure out by thinking of what will happen next. Too predictable. The positive thing about that movie is I like the beginning of the movie...whoa oh my god...so much suspense... but after that, the suspense becomes bored and it kills the ending. Sad, isn't it? I left the movie kind of disappointed.

Is anyone still watching Enterprise?
The last couple of episodes were a bit boring IMO, but I actually was quite rivited to this past Wednesday's episode. Archer and Tucker with greying hair! T'Pol with long hair! Malcolm with a goatee (is that the evil Mirror Universe Malcolm?)!
And I'm looking forward to the next episode -- I'm a sucker for parallel world/Wild West scenarios...

I've been incredibly unenthusiastic about "Enterprise" this season. Part of it has to do with its competition. I actually don't remember what's on opposite it the two nights it's on, but I think there are other things I'd rather be watching at those times (or else I'm out).

It's on opposite Smallville on Wednesdays -- not sure what it's up against the other night.
I've been more into Smallville than Enterprise since early in season 2, so it's usually not a difficult choice of which one I'll see. However, I've been a bit bored with Smallville this season too... go figure.
