How many can you think of (and who wielded them)?
I'll start off with an easy one:

Excalibur (King Arthur)

Itto Ogami's sword in Lone Wolf and Cub had a name that meant "cuts thick torsos," but I can't recall the Japanese name at the moment.

The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

Dota Nuki. But that is also the name of a type of sword making (dotanuki) the loosely translates as "sword-that-cuts-thru-torsos". It is a type of wakazashi used to cut thru armor.

And there's also one called "Callendor," I believe, in "The Wheel of Time" series. Rand 'al Thor is the individual who currently wields the sword as The Dragon Reborn.

CHARLEMAGNE! (thr true inspiration for king arthur?) I've been into the Charlemagne historical fantasy lately...has more facts than King Arthur...was a great king...had 11(or 12) Paladins which were the "special knights"...most famous was Roland (Song of Roland famous story and true story). Anyways they all had swords with names!

Charlemagne: Joyeuse had part of the lance used in the passion of christ?

Roland's sword: Durandal (originally the sword of Hector and later had a bunch of christian artifacts added...like the tooth of St. Peter)

Oliver's sword: Hauteclere (to split someone's head in two or something)

The twelve Paladin's were also known as the Twelve Peers. Rinaldo is another cool Paladin but I can't remember his sword's name. smile

Another named sword from Tolkien was Orcrist, which was found alongside Glamdring and taken by Thorin Oakenshield.

Been a while, but I think Fred Saberhagen named the weapons in his "Swords" books.

Thanks, OM. I have The Complete Book of Swords buried somewhere in mine abode; Forgot completely about it until you mentioned the series. I'll have to dig it out sometime tonight if nobody here beats me to it...

What about the sword that He-Man had half of and Skeletor had half of? Combined they could open up Castle Greyskull, at least in the old toys anyway.

I don't know about that one, but there was an old CBS cartoon with a He-Man type character with black hair who had half a sword that could fire energy bolts and I think the villain had the other half. Combined they became ahundred times more powerful. I think the hero rode a flying dragon, but I don't remember much else.

Speaking of Thundercats, Lion-O's friend, the samurai Hachiman had a sword called "Thunder-cutter"

The anime "Inuyasha", Inuyasha's sword is called the "Tetsusaiga"

The Marvel Black Knight wields "The Ebony Blade"

in the LORD OF RINGS, the witch king had a sword but the name fails me. Here in Nova Scotia, at one of the malls, they have a kiosk set up with different swords, sting, gandalf's sword and i'm pretty sure the witch kings' sword was there. Of course Excalibur was on display also.

In Cerebus, Elrod of Melvinbone's original sword was called Seersucker.

The childhood friend Exnihil never had.
