Well, the headline on AOL news today is Pat Robertson apologizing for his call to kill.

Pat Robertson has all the frothy goodness of a turd sundae. Let the guy burn in his own juices, and don't give him the attention. Bet his ratings went up for those couple of days, didn't they?
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!
Something pithy!

"Must... kill... Venezuelan ... President!! Cannot... resist!! Must ... obey... PAT!!!!"
Seriously, as a very consrvative Christian, I am embarrased by the comments Pat Robertson has made. While the world may indeed be a better place with Chavez pushing daisies, it ain't Pat Robertson's call, that's for sure.
"The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the Lord pondereth the hearts."
Proverbs 21:1,2

Hey, Kid Prime!! Yup it's been quite awhile since I've been posting. Life's just been getting busy and, well, some things like Legion World get put aside. *sniff* But thing's are good! Another year of teaching's just started so life will only get busier. I kinda missed everyone here at Legion World so I though I would stop in and share my two cents. And if there's a thread involving religion you know I'll have to say something!

Super Lad Kid space-rawks!!
Okay, so, DAG! Many of you might not EVEN suspect that I was raisied *VERY* religiously! I kinda feel sorry for Pat Robertson. Yes, you heard me.
Historically, the USA has a **VERY** low tolerance for its religious leaders' sins. See: Jim Bakker; Jerry Falwell. Go ahead, I *defy* you to attempt to find a Jimmy Swaggart cd in any Christian bookstore!
So more than likely, we're seeing the beginning of the downfall for PatRob.
I'm not gonna try to pass judgement, because Lord KNOWS I have too much to account for myself without trying to call out others.
*edited for drunken rambling* drunk posting: the newest deadly sin!

Here's a handy tip: There are plenty of good, decent Christians in the world. None of them have their own TV show.

Where Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell are different from other religious leaders (for me at least) is that they both have spent serious time and energy fanning the flames of antigay sentiment into a political movement. Remember "Don't ask, don't tell?" Falwell was the one who came up with the winning quote (Jeff paraphrase here) "If we allow gays into the military, our soldiers will have to face two threats: one from the front and one from the rear." And then, of course, Robertson blamed gays for 9-11 on TV. And then there's the Tinky Winky nonsense. Let's face it, these two demagogues have a serious mad-on for gays that have nothing to do with their religious beliefs, but they USE those beliefs to get people to listen to them. What's even worse (and scarier) is the possibility that they actually don't have anything personally against gays and lesbians: that they're just making statements like these in an effort to increase their personal power at the expense of the people they ridicule. Anyways, I see these two as no different from Annas and Caiaphas from the book of Matthew, and I think they deserve whatever fallout they get from any statements they make a hundredfold.

I think there's a line that some "religious" leaders cross. It's a hard line to define, but most of us know when it's been crossed. That line is the line between religious belief and politics. I think Robertson has crossed that line so many times, that I cease to think of him as a "religious" leader, but rather as a politician - and a very scary one at that. I think it's time for the IRS to investigate his "church" and start taxing the hell out of it (pun intended).
I put words like "church" and "religious" in quotes here, because Robertson's brand of "church" and "religion" are so far from the church and religion I was brought up in. As a kid I went to church mostly at the Presbyterian church, but sometimes the Anglican. I went to cubs and scouts at the Presbyterian church, and at the time, church was a very integral part of those organizations. As a teenager, I belonged to a church group in the United Church of Canada. (It's hard to believe that I got so much religious upbringing, but I guess I did). However, I remember those churches as gentle, inviting places. There was no fire and brimstone - just community and preaching that Jesus taught love. So it's very hard for me to be comfortable around these hate-preaching "churches". In fact, in my heart, I can't consider them as part of the Christianity that I was brought up in.
