I loved Dr. Who. Especially the series from the 70s.

Boston.com has listed their 50 all time Sci-Fi shows. Some surprises on the list, especially high placement of new shows. But to me, the most glaring omission was Star Trek: Deep Space 9. To make it worse, they actually ranked Voyager! No way Voyager would ever make my list, especially without DS9.

All Star Trek, except Voyager and most of Enterprise, especially DS9, a series I mourn the end of nearly weekly

Battlestar Galactica, new series

Firefly

I liked about half of Babylon 5

How could DS9 not be in the top 10, much less not on the list?

The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.

Don't judge me!

Okay, line up your tomatoes - Voyageur was my favorite of the Star Trek series and Janeway was my favorite captain. And Seven of Nine was pure inspiration.

I'll let you get away with that as long as you bow to Sisko. smile

Actually I don't outright hate Voyager but I never got the chance to get into it at the beginning. SLC had a time where, for about two years, most of the cable providers didn't carry a local (or any) UPN station because Larry Miller, the owner of the UPN station at the time, the Utah Jazz and a million businesses, decided that the network was too 'urban' and refused to show their content in Utah.

Not only did he effectively cut our market off for UPN shows, he did this the same time that Buffy switched over to UPN! Robbed us of two years of prime time slayerness! The bastich!

I find the list iffy. DS9 was far superior to Voyager and should have made the list. And Buffy is way better then half the shows that came ahead of it. Stargate Atlantis is better then the Slayer? No way. The new BSG is good but would only make my top ten, not number 2. ST:NG, Quantum Leap and Doctor Who would make my top 5.

And where was Blake's Seven? That was a great British Sci-fi. And where was Angel? Where was the NBC show Erie, Indiana? Where was Amazing Stories?

There were alot of c*ap shows on the list.

And what about Werewolf. I swear there was never any better science fiction than watching John J. York wake up naked in a park after a night of were-wolfing. Those artfully concealing branches were pure genious I tell you. smile

well besides all the regular ones that will be named in this thread i'll add one of my faves although it only lasted one season and didn't get the props it deserved for being educational and entertaining is Voyagers which ran on NBC for one season way back in 1982:

Plot Summary for
"Voyagers!" (1982)
Phineas Bogg is a member of a group people called Voyagers. They help history along. Give it a push where it's needed. He is a regular human that was living as a pirate a few hundred years ago, when he was chosen to be a voyager. He travels by way of a gold pocket watch like device called an omni. When the light is flashing red, it means history is wrong. His job is to fix it. In the pilot episode, Bogg ends up in 1982 when his omni malfunctions. (He is only supposed to be able to go as far as 1970.) He ends up in the apartment where 12 year old Jeffery Jones and his aunt and uncle live. (Jones parents were recently killed in an accident.) While there, Jeffery's dog grabs hold of Bogg's guide book (basically a history book.) Bogg being a pretty inept history person has no clue what to do without his book. One thing leads to another and Jeffery falls out of the building's window. The only way to save him is for Bogg to jump out after him and travel through time. Now Bogg is stuck in time with a 12 year old kid (Jeffery), no guide book, and no way of getting Jeffery back. But he does have an ace in the hole. Jeffery's dad was a history professor and Jeffery picked up much of his knowledge. So now the two of them, travel through time, giving history a push along where it is needed.

Mine were...

Star Trek - The original one...overacting at it's finest, and I truly mean that.

Battlestar Galactica - Loved the original Cylons sooo much.

Buck Rogers - Two words...ERIN GREY!!!

But my favorite has to have been...

Max Headroom - Besides being one of the only shows that (at least up until that point for me) made you pay attention and think about what was going on, two more words...Amanda Pays!!!

Max Headroom!! I was wondering if anyone but me remebered that show. Actually, it was so long ago that I don't even really remember it, only that I was crushed when it was cancelled. I wish I still had the T-shirt...

Voyagers was great... as was the TV Flash.

My all-time favorites are Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, and Sliders (the first three seasons ONLY).

I can't believe no one has mentioned...Quark! Remember Captain Quark was in love with one of the blond girls, but since one was a clone, he didn't know which one he loved? I loved this show when I was a kid. In fact, this show was responsible for my parents changing their plans one evening...

It goes like this. I was maybe 10 years old, and had watched part one of a 2-parter the week before. When I found out we had to go out to dinner and that I would miss part 2, I cried. And cried. And cried. I didn't throw a fit, I was just very upset. My parents actually changed their plans so I could be home long enough to watch part 2. Pretty decent of them...

Yeah, the Flash was awesome...and i really believe that was John Wesley Shipp's bod under the costume - not a plastic body suit like they did for the Batman movies... laugh

Well, Mystery Lad, the topic wasn't a "vote-only" for your favourite Sci-Fi show of all time, just for people to write in and share their opinions and share their own little threads of nostalgia.

"Farscape" was a show, that in spite of having Australian guest stars in some episodes, didnt quite catch on with the Aussies as it did with the USA contingent - which was a shame, really. frown

I agree with Mystery Lad - Farscape should have been on the list. Honestly, I think it should have made the top 20 at least. Also, Buffy is sci-fi? When did this happen? *sigh*

Here's my best of SciFi/Fantasy TV list:

Love Stargate Atlantis, not so much the SG:1 though.
Quantum Leap had some really great episodes (The Leap Home and to Vietnam really stood out for me.)
Firefly was thoroughly entertaining.
Really dug Angel... not so much Buffy though.
The Dresden Files were pretty decent.
Liked Witchblade too.
Star Trek: TNG and Voyager were my faves of the franchise (can't stand DS 9 though, other than the episode where they went back to the Tribble episode in TOS they bored me). Enterprise and TOS are watchable but usually don't keep my interest for the whole episode.

Of all these though I'd recommend SG Atlantis slightly more than Firefly. They are by far and away the class of my list.

Firefly
The Six Million Dollar Man (cant believe this one hasn't been mentioned)
Eureka (Still going, but its a great show)
Wild Wild West
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
Ultraman

And, this may get me kicked out of here, but...

I never really liked Star Trek. It was nice, but it didn't rock my world. To this day the whole star trek thing is beyond me. Where i grew up, we only had two channels locally and didn't even know what cable was. Instead of Star Trek, i liked Wild Wild West, or the adam west Batman. The old Green Hornet was fun.

I didn't get to see the old shows like Lost in Space or the Land of Giants...

It's astonishing to me, but I've watched (as a child or adult) all or part of, almost all of the series mentioned!
Plus quite a few more!
I've loved so many of them!

But as a kid, Star Trek and Lost in Space were most loved.

Later, Bionic Woman and Wonder Woman were the ones I liked the most during that era.

As an adult with kids, I enjoyed STNG and DS9.

I loved most of Farscape, too.

I discovered SG1 (love those characters!) late and followed Atlantis most of the time.

The new Doctor Who is lovely and so is Primeval.

There's a cartoon from Japan called The Avatar which I think, has become my all time favorite cartoon sci-fi series.
Wonderful illustration, story, voices and concept.

My all time favorite is probably MST 3000.
I used to laugh so hard! The movies were so bad but Joel and the robots were so funny!
Loved that show.

There was a show that wasn't really a favorite but sort of a guilty fascination.
I can't remember the name but the show was built around a giant living ship that looked like a Dragonfly.
The ship and it's passengers were thrown out of their universe and into another.
It was very strange, perhaps British or Aussie.

I like shows, and books, with 'living' ships.
This one was sort of creepy, though.
But very interesting.
Anyone else remember it?

Lexx was my all time favorite Sci-Fi series (Thank you Canada). Xenia Seeberg was just amazing to look at, and Prince was probably the best Sci-Fi villain ever.

Mystery Science Theater was always good for a laugh.

Recently, Stargate Atlantis caught my attention for a while, but then I started forgetting to watch it.

Atlantis is over now.
I really started to enjoy that show this year!
Figures.
But I've heard that there'll be a StarGate Universe series or movie this year.
I don't know any of the details yet.
