Are there, were there any characters that were permanently multibodied in the Legion universe, or in comicdom in general? Just curious. Triplicate Girl can split herself up but spends more time as a single being, yes?

I'm not sure what you're asking either, but if they were permanently multi-bodied, wouldn't they be more than one character?
An example might be the Jigsaw Beast, which really is several animals living in a symbiotic relationship, but capable of separating and engaging in independent activity.

There was a one-shot character in the 1980s "Dial 'H' for Hero" series called "Composite Man" who had 100 or so bodies (most very small), but as all the heroes in that series, he only made one appearance.
The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

In other words..."NO". It's probably not a good visual concept, and has been done in only 2 science fiction novels that I know of.
Just checking to see if it was done/overdone...thanks!!

Legion-wise (besides what's been mentioned) - there was a anti-space being that may or may not have had the ability to merge his bodies in LSH (3rd series) #18 (Jan 1986). Non-Legion-wise - Maddrox the Multiple Man and Flashback from Marvel. Multiplex from DC.

There was a multibodied character named Eight in the little-known superhero movie The Specials.

There was a character, Tusk I think, part of the Dark Riders that faced of against the X-Men. A trio of imps that merged to become a bigger character. They never really got developed, so I don't know if they were 3 separate entities or not.
Just spouting off.

Aren't there 5 identical girls who are students of the White Queen in the Marvel universe? They all look alike and speak in synch, IIRC, but I don't know if they're supposed to be clones or quintuplets or what.

That would be the Stepford Cuckoos , now known as Three-in-One since the death of two of the sisters.

Gangster split from a single body into multiple, smaller copies of himself.

And then of course there's Living Doll, a member of the Decency Squad, from the Tick animated series. ("I'm full of tinier men!")

I think Madrox comes the closest since he always has dupes of himself out learning new things and then coming back and merging. Some of them are gone for very long stretchs at a time and some become so independent that thy don't want to merge back into the main body anymore. I think Madrox always has at least a few of his dupes out of body at all times it seems now.

Triplicate Girl's origin makes it clear that there's an entire planet populated by Lu's who learn from each other by merging.
Though don't even know who the original was.

Interesting...for the planet of Lus, that is a guarantee of immortality, yes?
Living Doll produced little green army men, or was it a Russian doll with smaller dolls telescoped inside? And, I guess there are insect humanoids with bodies made of thousands of roaches or whatever (ewg) that superheroes regularly slam.
In the scifi novel examples, one alien race is always born with 3 bodies: one human, one humanoid with wings, and one bestial (wolf/panther thing). The being's consciousness can only animate one body at a time, and the other 2 bodies are shipped as cargo when the alien travels. Awkward for a hero with his own series, but as a one-off character, not bad. In the second, humans on an alien world were converted to a form of that world (similar to David Lindsay's Voyage to Arcturus, where humans were transformed post voyage). The new body consisted of a brain dragged along on a sled by its six or so biped forms. If the bipeds moved too far away from the brain, they would fall asleep.
Of course in both novels the extra bodies are killed off. Makes for more tension.

That's something that's not clear yet. There's was an upper limit to the number of Lu's that could be generated. It's not clear if one of them dies, if that reduces the upper limit or not. And since Triplicate Girl has been away from the rest of the Lu's for an extended period of time, she apparently can't remerge with the rest (or at least they won't remerge with her), so it's also not clear what would happen if one of her bodies died. We do know that she can apparently heal minor injuries by recombining with the other two, however.

An old John Byrne project titled (IIRC) Danger Unlimited had a character who was split into three bodies due to exposure to a mysterious mutagenic substance. Byrne pulled the plug on it after only 3 or 4 issues, so there wasn't really time to find out where he was going with the idea. Frank Herbert's "Bureau of Sabotage" series included an alien species called the Pan Spechi. IIRC, each had five bodies (each with a somewhat different personality), only one of which was fully sentient at any given time, the other four being dormant. For something current, P.S.238 has Doctor Positron, a sentient android who has built himself several additional bodies since joining the staff of the school -- though you probably aren't counting Artifical Intelligences.
"Gee, Brainy, what do you want to do tonight?" "The same thing we do every night, Bouncing Boy: try to take over the United Planets!!" They're B.B. and The Brain ...

Phantomex's (from X-Men) nervous system existed outside his body as a separate entity (I think).
Maggot's maggots were his mutation and went around outside himself, but I'm not sure that qualifies.
Would the Borg be considered multibodied?

I forgot Collective Man from Marvel. I keep thinking there's another DC villain with this power (not the Madmen), but I can't remember it at the moment.

What about Multi-Girl from Top Ten? She hasn't been mentioned yet has she? And the alternate reality Dr. 13 from Doom Patrol v2 #53 could split into 13 different bodies.
