A new season has begun and as enamored as I am with the show and the concept, I was disappointed in the qualifiers for this installment. A two time Emmy winning show does not need to stoop to having so many volatile, in-your-face hostile contestants, at least, that's what it felt like after watching the pro wrestlers and the entrepreneurial couple for 2 hours last night. Those poor Icelanders. All I could read from their expressions was "Loud Obnoxious Americans" (sorry, no real offence meant to my neighbours to the south).

This is my first season to watch the show but I really liked the first show.

I think I liked the grandparents...when they race to the tents the old man looks around the glacier and says "Wow.." Do the other contestants understand they are in a foreign land.
What about the stupid couple and them putting in the wrong type of gas. Hello it says diesel.

Beautiful scenery, but I agree that these are some of the most annoying contestants ever. I can't stand the Yellow Shirt Guy, and I can't imagine how difficult it must be for the other contestants to put up with him. Plus, a number of the couples look to be on the verge of breaking up, and they've only been doing this for, what, two or three days?

I laughed when teams saw someone standing in a field and asked, "Excuse me, are you a local?" No, they're from Topeka and just decided to stand in a field in the middle of Iceland for the heck of it!

And the whole diesel screw-up gave me flashbacks to that earlier season where something like three or four teams put the wrong kind of fuel in their car (and one of them got eliminated because of it). Can't anyone read?

Never heard ofthe show til recently.

Me and STU visited the maze in Fort Worth that appeared on the show as a side trip after the Con.

The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

That was pretty cool!

Actually, it was much smaller than it looked on the show. We didn't try it out, but it seemed like you could finish the maze in 15 minutes or less if you were clever. The show made it seem as though they were running around the maze for much longer...

Jonathan is the most horrid person I've ever seen on a TV reality show.

Unfortunately, he's also one of about five people that appear to have a distinct personality on the show. Why do they always cast so many guy/girl couples where both are youngish, good looking, and completely generic and bland?

And Bolo eating that raw sausage meat was just gross.

Screaming Johnathan (is that his name? the yellow shirt guy?) pushing his wife at the end of the finish line as she's lugging both of their bags was pretty despicable. And he wants kids?!

Drama Queen Adam always amuses me.

His usual response when his girlfriend (?) annoys him is seemingly to threaten to throw himself in front of a train, or off the boat, or something similar...

Girlfriend(?) indeed.

As this season progresses, I am thinking more and more that his problems with Rebecca stem less from any particular problems with her and more and more from the fact that he's, well, not really into girls much. laugh

I mean, "I want more than seven inches?" Kamahn!

lol

Maybe Adam is simply trying to maintain plausible deniability b/c he is in the closet, but it just turns out that no one is being fooled.

Hey, Adam! Shout-outs for 7 inches of sausage are not the way to keep it under wraps!

It would be sad if he actually *is* straight, b/c no one will ever believe it.

Jonathan is a horrid, horrid man. I honestly hope to see him kicked off the show for the constant abuse of his wife. Victoria should get counseling and a divorce.

And Jon (of Jon & Kris) is very hot.

I echo the same sentiment regarding Adam's odd body language. I absolutely hate the yellow screaming guy! I am surprised that no one even complains to the CBS to kick him off of the show. I kind of like Bolo and his wrestling wife....they are kind of cute...I don't like the b*tch who called Bolo "a barbarian on steriods" and I was like "huh? that's how she judges?" I hope she did not win the race.

I root for underdogs - I hope that Hera and her father do well in the race. They may be slow like the turtles but the turtles beat the hares in the race. *finger crossing* ( I was rooting for Bowling Moms, but no it never happened.)

You know, I kind of against my better judgement find myself liking Bolo and Xena too... they're actually kind of a real normal couple under all the wrestling trappings. I especially like how Bolo often winds up being the calm and collected one on their team by default. smile

I also really really like Gus and Hera too. They ARE the tortoises of the group thus far, but I wouldn't be surprised if they stay in the race for awhile.

Also, guys and gals, the way this season is being edited thus far makes me think Jonathan and Victoria will make it till the final episode (much to my chagrin.)

Yes, Bolo and Xena have grown on me too. His mumblings... "and I'mnot on steroids" was hilarious!

Jonathan is so obscenely deviant that you can't help but think it's a "role" that he's playing a caricature for more airtime. Oddly, I find myself equally despising Victoria for not having a backbone., it's a very twisted relationship. CBS has gotten a lot of heat for allowing his antics to carry forward, which if nothing else, has helped the ratings, if not the role of societal domestic violence. frown

And Jon is VERY hot. smile

Lots of Jon last night <pant pant>

Anyway, how much of a rip was it that we don't see who got eliminated? I'm shaking my fist in the general direction of CBS.

Allegations of abuse aside, Johnathan and Victoria were extremely funny last night. Such misery! I love the editing where they showed all these teams dealing with problems with patience and humor, with maybe a slight blip in civility before calming down... and then they would cut to J&V, screaming and traumatizing and getting thrown out of cabs. Priceless!

I so hope that J&V get booted out soon.

My favorite teams have to be Kris and Jon and Gus and Hera.

Kris and Jon actually seem to be enjoying doing the race. They are also always supportive of each other and I don't ever remeber them ever saying anything remotely negative at all.

Gus and Hera took same time to get used to but they ahve turned me around. They are actually using their intelligence to win this race. They also seem to be getting along better. Funniest moment was when they were at the beer garden and Gus kept taking sips.

Down the the evil team. GO K&J and Gus&Hera!

It's been a guilty pleasure of mine to see how disfunctional so many of the couples are in this season. I hope they're in it into the final rounds.

This is exactly why they are my favorite team, and I hope they win. They are enjoying themselves! They don't nag at each other! How refreshing!

But I have to admit the most entertaining part is watching the dysfunctional people.

By this point we've gotta believe Jonathan is pulling an "Omarosa" and amping it up for the cameras, no one can be that big of a d@ck in real like for all the world to see.

And Jon in a speedo.... homina homina homina smile

I would have to disagree. Johnathon is that big of an a$$ way before the race started in his interviews. How about last eposide when he kept harrassing Gus about the plane tickets. Get off it!

Jon and Freddie! Yeah...we got us some female producers who want to see some hot guys in Speedos!

I don't know, you may be right, but I would bet he purposely went out of his way during the interviews to be an a$$ so that he would cast in that role. Many people who try out go on with an agenda, everyone always remembers and loves to hate the villain. Producers want ratings. By playing this role he not only stood out amongst all the other would be players, but he's now standing out amongst the actual contestants.

IMO It's just too over the top for it to be anything other than a character that he's playing and he's suceeding. Of all the contestants, he's the one everyone remembers.

its a little over the top, but to be honest i've met his kind before, hell, sometimes i am his kind, but there are truly people out there just like him 24 hrs a day 365 days a year. Its convinced me that women actually do like abuse, its a sad thing to say but thats what it seems to be.
