Anyone reading the comic book prequel to the live-action movie? I gave it a try, but I found it dreary with murky art.
I just found out that Frank Welker lost the Megatron role to Hugo Weaving.
But I'll still go see the movie just to hear Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime.
Other behind-the-scenes people whom I think need the spotlight: musicians
Robert J. Walsh and the late
Johnny Douglas. They did not write the famous TF theme song (Ford Kinder and Anne Bryant wrote it) but they did provide the show's magnificent background music. When I hear the music from the first two seasons, I hear influences ranging from classical to jazz to rock, and even a few hints of avant-garde. Almost every 80s cartoon (heck, almost every 80s TV show) had great music IMO, but the TF music was the cream of the crop. The movie was scored by Vince Di Cola and had some very 80s songs in it, all of which has not stood the test of time as well as the timeless work of Douglas & Walsh. The third and fourth seasons mixed the musical cues from seasons one and two with re-arrangements of some of the cues from the movie; sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.
It's very sad that Douglas' & Walsh's TF music has never been available on album, cassette, or CD. Although I haven't needed it, because I every TF musical cue was imprinted in my brain -- they're very helpful whenever I'm writing action-adventure stories.
