For some reason, McDonald's new "Lovin' It" campaign bugs the crap out of me. I've heard it on the radio, seen it on tv in various forms, different jingles, different moods aimed at different demographics and every single time it annoys the holy heck out of me! I don't know why ... but it just ... gets to me!

What's currently annoying the crap out of you?

There's some radio spots (perhaps just local) that talk about getting vaccinations and stuff like that, but they're trying to sound hip by using that "fizzle my shizzle" type stuff that's popular with the young people nowadays.

There's nothing sadder than marketing reps in their 40s trying to write like 18 year olds.

Some car company had ads last month for a seasonal sale with a singer belting out "It's Now or Never" ... in an operatic and forceful voice, NOT like Elvis. Drove me up a tree. Fortunately for me, the ads stopped a few days ago. Fortunately for the car company, the name of the brand was never spoken, so I don't remember it and can't put it on my shit-list of products to avoid.

Ads for panty liners, vaginal itch medications, and tampons are close runners-up currently. I am SO glad men don't have to put up with all that {rueful smile}

I haven't really minded the LOVIN' IT McD's ad campaign.

Snoop-speak was funny at first, but it is SO 4 months ago.

Most annoying but funny commercial ever:

A lady is shown on the golf course preparing to swing. She stops and looks into the camera horrified. Voiceover (paraphrased): "Where will YOU be when your laxative kicks in?"

Do any of you get the Trunk Monkey commercials?

I love Trunk Monkey because that guy he womps is soooo annoying.

We get the Trunk Monkey here for one of our car lots, Gus Paulos I think.

Unless I really really like the commercial, I hate it when they run the same commercial back-to-back.

I can't think of a current ad that I either love or loathe right now. So much for being a target demographic.

Truth in advertising isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Greybird, that car commercial pissed me off. i'm happy to know somebody else hated it as much as i did. thank god it's over now! that damn song got stuck in my head constantly. i'd wake up with song repeating over and over in my brain (gotta stop falling asleep with the tv on). definitely on the shit list.

ANY use of a popular song in a TV commercial. (They casn't write their own jingles anymore?????)

ANY use of popular songs in ads for a movie-- ESPECIALLY if the songs DON'T EVEN APPEAR IN THE FILM!!!!! ("Stuart Little" anyone?)

ANYTIME a commercial is run MORE THAN ONCE during any single TV program. Anyone running the same commercial at EACH break should be SHOT. Anyone running the same commercial more than once DURING A SINGLE BREAK should be slowly TORTURED.

Ooh, Ooh, me Too! With one exception. The Hummer-2 commercial "Jack." Most appropriate use of a song in a commercial that I can think of.

Is that the one with "Happy Jack" by the Who, or am I thinking of something else?

Yeah that's the one. What did you think? I liked it because of "Jack's" engenuity. He was the one that does things differently and couldn't be brought down. That's why I thought the song appropriate in words and mood.

A fancy way of saying, it gets my giggle on.

I think it's an effective ad, tying the happy non-conformist in the song with the car.

I'm not gonna run out and buy one, but it works as well as any ad I see on TV these days.

Has anyone seen the Miller Lite commercial where people are tumbling over like dominoes?

I haven't actually laughed out loud like that for the entire duration of a commercial in years...

I just saw that Miller Lite ad today.

The most amusing thing is that they changed the lyrics of that Devo song from "dropped dead" to "dropped down".

A commercial I really hate is for Range Rover. It shows a procession in an India-like country (but not in a major city, but one with dirt roads). The big mucky-muck is on an elevated litter. At the cross road is a Range Rover. The procession stops, the high mucky-muck waves the Range Rover through. The voice over says something about Respect.


I also hate all those SUB commercials showing people tearing up the wilderness. I'd love for an Environmental group to do a PSA showing the same behavior but also showing its consequences, like destroying nesting grounds.


Secret Confession time: I think the "Can you hear me know?" guy is annoying, but I am also attracted to him.

Do you know who the actor is? It's funny that he's so ubiquitous -- he probably appears on TV more than almost any "non-icon" advertising figure (e.g., Ronald McDonald) -- yet still remains anonymous...

The Sprint guy seemed like a knock-off Mulder. still I wouldn't say no to him.
