Also, I got a kick out of the old "the way out of the dream is to deny the reality of the dream and kill yourself" comic book concept. I recognized it instantly, then realized I couldn't name a single circumstance in which I could remember seeing it...maybe one of those "astral plane" scenes from Claremont's X-Men? Anyone know where this idea appeared for the first time?

I don't know about the first time, but I remember one of the best. It was from the Vertigo Preview #1 that launched the imprint for DC. There was an exclusive Sandman story called "Fear of Falling" where this concept was really well done. A guy dreams he is climbing a mountain, and when he reaches the top, he meets Dream. They talk about climbing (and life) for a while and the guy asks "Aren't you scared of falling?" (parallel to failing here). Dream answers him "Sometimes you wake, and sometimes, yes, you die. But there is a third alternative." Dream vanishes and the mountain crumbles apart. The guy knows he's dreaming, but he's still scared he's going to fall and die. He hopes he'll wake up before he splats on the ground...but then he hears Dream's voice in his head, "There is a third alternative..." Click Here For A SpoilerSometimes you fly.. So that's what he does. Awesome story, in a mere 7 pages!!!!

There was also an issue of Nightmask (believe it or not) that I remember where a guy went comatose after his wife and daughter were killed. I believe he had witnessed a crime, and the criminals blew up the family's car and only he survived, but in a coma. Nightmask entered his dreams and had to shock the guy awake by killing his wife and daughter in the fantasy going on in the guy's head. The reason that story stuck with me is because I wrote almost the exact same story for a superteam my friend and I wrote about during high school English class (man was that class boring!!!). Bahstad's horked my script!!! smile

This show has really messed with my head. Many times, I've fallen sucker to the old cliffhanger formula- leave the audience wondering, hungry to come back for more. But LOST, they don't play it like that. Sure, every episode ends with a bit of a tease, something to make me want to watch the next episode.

But then next Wednesday comes around, and they briefly mention last week's tease before starting a new plotline with it's own little twists. I mean they totally play me! And I fall for it each week. I use to think I was a rather intelligent guy; now I have to wonder.

Pardon my little rant. I just go nuts over this show. To put it in perspective, it's my must-read-first-title each week.

I like the connection between Rose and Locke. It also could explain Sun's pregancy.

Great show, Henry is pure evil. I read on EW that in the Hurley flashback last season Henry was the janitor that was screwing in the light blub in the mental hosptial.

I cannot believe how far behind I am on this show. Thankfully this was the last new episode until May. Maybe now I can get caught up.

How many great episodes have we had in a row now?

And it looks like it's going to be a great ride up to the season finale!

The Rose/Benard story was wonderful. I almost got teary eyed when I thought about the next day. Almost. (One has one's pride. cool )

Jack was a real bastard this week, though.

Rose has been amazing in her brief appearances. Getting the background on her and Bernard was nice. But, I don't see chemistry between these two actors. Mostly the guy playing Bernard has never been impressive to me.

Jack has been a bit jerkish the last few eps. I really do think we're suppose to not like the characters this year. And next season, they will build them back up for us again.

I believe this week is a recap episode, then starting next week it's straight through to the finale without interruption.

I was struck by the fact that not a single one of the main characters has ANYTHING worth going home for. Sun's pregnant, Jin doesn't want to go back to work for Sun's dad, Jack gets to avoid dealing with his dad's death, Locke can walk, Rose is cured, Sawyer's got nothing, Hurley's life is screwed up, Kate's on the run, Michael wants his son back, etc. The final montage of "life on the island" brought it into clear focus.

For some reason, I guess their age, I assumed that Rose and whatshisface had been together for years...

Other than some missteps about a third of the way through the season, there has been good episode after good episode since Xmas.

I was grateful for the summary episode last week--I feel like the writers/producers really give us some hints as to "what we need to know" or what's been important.

Good point there AFB. I never thought about their futures, if they got off the island. And there certainly is reason for a number of them to stay.

It *is* interesting that none of them have really strong reason to want to get off the island. You'd think there'd be at least one character with family or something off the island that they'd be concerned about trying to get to.

Whoa... I'm starting to wonder if all the twists are starting to have a negative affect on the series. I was in shock after tonight's episode, now I'm feeling more annoyed than anything else, to me it's starting to feel more like shock value for the sake of shock value. It's hard to feel connected to a show's characters if you're too busy wondering who's gonna shock you next. tongue

it's gone too far to the other end of the spectrum for my tastes.
