And of course there's the original synopsis for the original Dusk of the Dead by Romero.
It's an alien invasion and they've reanimated the dead to take over the planet without a fight....

Okay, I went to the B-Buster today and rented the NIGHT OF... & DAWN OF... remakes! (It's been a few years since I've seen the NIGHT OF... remake).
Still love the poetic justce Cooper had at the end. Take THAT, punk! Although, the idea of getting into the attic was a wonderful one-- and should have been their first choice. They all might have survived had they done that to begin with. Well, all except Sarah. Too bad they were all to freaked out to think of it. And the remake Barbara rawks, of course.
On to the DAWN OF... remake! I'm scared!
I'm assuming-- and please pardon my comic-book nerdiness-- these are all in the same continuity? Guess I'll see shortly...!

Okay, watched it. It occured to me that when it comes to horror flicks, I'm not a fan of the gore or the being scared-- 'cause I'm not-- but what's really always interested me is seeing how ordinary people might handle themselves when placed in incredible circumstances. But enough with the inner revelations... Good movie. I knew what was going to happen with Luda (the pregnant girl) the instant I saw her. Nicole was the only one of the truck arrivals to the mall to make it out alive, and she was incredibly lucky after her Chips-fetching stunt. Andy was kewl. When they left the mall, there was literally an OCEAN of zombs... this was, like, the end of the world for sure. So many so fast... was anyone at ALL left alive other than our mall gang? To insert a bit of comic-book-nerdiness to enable me to enjoy this more, I'll call the events of NIGHT OF... to have taken place on earth-2 and the DAWN OF... events as earth-one. If it was me, I'd much rather be living on zombie earth-2. And the end (that actually takes place during the credits) sure was depressing... but I guess the end of the world would have to be... Now I'm all ready for LAND OF...! Which I assume will take place on zombie earth-one.

Believe it or not, I've never seen any of the original George Romero movies, but I loved--repeat: loved!--the Dawn of the Dead Remake. For that matter, I was wild about Shaun of the Dead, too.
The three things that really captivate me about these movies are: 1) the postulated (but never confirmed) theories about why the dead are rising; 2) the way that the population of the living is taken unaware by the crisis; and 3) the news coverage of the world's end as things literally start going to Hell.
As sick as this may sound, I find these zombie movies to be a lot of fun, and I definitely do want to see the Romero originals. Fortunately, I now have the first one, Night of the Lving Dead, on DVD, and simply have to make some time to watch it.
For what it's worth, I'm (apparently) one of the few people who also enjoyed the Resident Evil movies. And speaking of Living Deadish movies, does anybody remember a very bad but similarly themed movie from the early eighties where people began turning into demons (it started in a movie theater, I think)? Just wondering (I'd like to rent it sometime down the road just for kicks).
If the meek shall inherit inherit the Earth, then I at least want Baffin Island - and a property manager to work for me who is made of sterner stuff than I.

Meanwhile, "Shaun of the Dead" is set on Earth-C, with the Zombie Captain Carrot.

I don't know what the in-continuity answer to your question is, MMLASH, but it is apparent to me that the enhanced speed of the zombies in the Dawn of the Dead remake was inspired by the Zombies from the Resident Evil movies. I honestly believe that this movie influenced all other zombie movies after it--regardless of its other merits or failings (but then again, that's just my opinion; I could be wrong).

Land of the Dead is supposed to feature zombies more on par with the Dawn remake. Romero has said that the zombies are evolving. Can't wait for this weekend.
