I don't know if you guys covered this already, but I'd thought I'd give B Grade Horror movies their own thread! I love movies just like I love comics, and have a variety of genres that I absolutely love (especially Westerns, Historical films in the Ancient World [like Rome], detective film noir [especially with Bogey] and a whole lot of others).
One genre I love is horror, and part of this is my love for crappy B grade horror movies that are still kind of fun to watch. Currently, I'm getting ready to watch all five Phantasm movies, which aren't the best (I've seen 3, and it was pretty bad). The latter sequals are just supposed to be horrendous. But I sometiems have a soft spot for crappy horror movies, just like I do for certain comic books.
I love the Halloween movies (all of them) and particulurly like 4,5 and 6. Yet, I don't really like any Jason movies at all.
What about you guys, anyone else have a soft spot for horror movies, even the crappy ones?

I can't watch a horror movie. Too scary (well, duh!) but I just sit there with my eyes closed half the time. The last real horror movie I went to was An American Werewolf in London, and I had to walk out. That was a while back. Since then, I've avoided all the Friday 13th type of things. Low tolerance for fear, I guess.
There was one I actually liked despite the horror - I don't know if you'd call it real horror movie or more of a mystery - WInter Kills. That gave me creepy nightmares for a while. I still shudder to think about it.

Aw Cramey, I'd hold you! My girlfriend has trouble watching horror movies sometimes too, but I make her do it anyway!
I've never seen Winter Kills, but I might have to check it out now! I've never had to walk out of a horror movie before, but my mom told me she had to walk out of the "Alien" when it came out and had nightmares for weeks after!

I love horror i love george romero, NIGHT, DAWN, DAY of the dead are all favourites of mine and i eagerly await the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, i believe its release date is in march. I rented Final Destination 2 and that was AWESOME, i thought the first one was ok but this one blew the first movie away, nice and gory.

My hubby isn't very good at watching horror movies either. He likes them, just can't watch them in the cinema coz he gets embaressed when something scary happens and he squeals like a girl. He tends to prefer gory horror films though which, if you think about it, tend to be less scary and more about just being nasty. i don't like gore personally but mainly because whenever it happens I just tend to go 'ach, that's just special effects. Not scred now' so I much prefer scary films where it's stuff that's left to the imagination. Films like The Others or the original The Haunting or Rosemary's Baby scare me much more than slasher flicks and the like. I do like being scared though and do sit there with my hands over my face, peeping out between my fingers (now honestly, how is that supposed to protect you? Most of us do it and it so doesn't make any sense).
Channel 4 just did the top 100 Scary Moments this weekend and most of the top ten were films that are more about gore than they are about scares. The run down was actually scary *moments* rather than whole films (it included TV shows and ads too) and the number one was Jack Nicholson coming through the door in The Shining. The things that I find scary were lower down the list but there was still some good stuff there.
Scariest thing I've ever seen though was the stage version of The Woman In Black. Now *that* gave me nightmares, and again it's all about what you don't see rather than what you do. Oooh, and I used to be terrified of the Dr Who music. Not the show itself (although the Daleks did scare me) just the music. I used to have to hide behind the couch with my fingers in my ears until it finished and i could watch the rest. He he.

I love horror and so does my b/f but he get scared very easily. One time we watch the others in leicester sq and he screamed so loudly the whole cinema stared at us. He's really jumpy as well. If we watch a horror he spends half the film virtually in my seat cinging on to me.

I love anything involving animals gone wild -- including the various movies about killer piranhas, snakes, rats, etc. A personal guilty favorite is Lepus, which features killer rabbits...

I just bought the DVD and Caroline has actually said she'd watch it with me. I'd have to say Zombie or Undead movies are my favorite horror. My mom raised me on the stuff. We'd go to the drive-in and see shows like Blood Farmers, 2000 Maniacs and Devil's Rain (with William Shatner). Dawn of the Dead still has to be my favorite though.

This is probably more for LABRADORIAN and myself but I just read where George Romero is still trying to make the fourth Dead movie, to be titled Dead Reckoning. This is what he had to say about it: "It's about ignoring the problem. After the events in Day of the Dead, the remaining survivors are living in exclusive gated communities that protect them from the dead outside. They attempt to live normally while ignoring the problem in the world outside their walls. The real horror and adventure comes into play with the group of people living in the gated city whose job it is to leave the safety of the city and venture out into the dead wasteland to gather supplies and things." But this is the problem in getting the movie made (from the same interview that you can find here ): "When we made the original film," Romero told us, "we titled it Night of the Flesh Eaters. We registered that title with the copyright office, but at the last minute the producers changed the title to Night of the Living Dead and neglected to copyright the new title, leaving us without rights to our own film, which is why you see so many people putting it out on video and DVD all the time." He continues, "The 1990 remake directed by Tom Savini was an attempt to reclaim some of the rights." It wasn't entirely successful in that regard. I wish they could get it cleared up. I'd love to see a fourth movie made by the Zombie master. Oh, BTW, Day of the Dead was just released on special edition DVD for the first time. Now I can complete my set.

i am thinking about picking up that dvd. Maybe you can answer something, i saw a version of NIGHT{original} that has footage i've never seen before - scene in town at beginning of movie where these guys are loading a coffin into the back of a truck, take it to the graveyard and the corpse wakes up and its the first zombie at the beginning of the movie. - they have some priest in the movie, here and there, and at the end of the movie he gets bit and its shows one year later and he is still alive and blabbing on and on about it being a message from god{i think}
what is this version?

i saw 28 days, i thought it was ok, it could have been better and some things i thought were weak. But its not bad, its not zombies though, at least not my version of zombies. I enjoyed the DVD, i actually saw it twice. Have you ever read Romero's DEATH OF DEATH, if so please TELL ME what happened. Have you seen BRUISER, i cant find it, i want to rent it first then maybe buy it.

I'm not too much into gorey straight-up slasher flicks, but I like sick stuff like "Reanimator" or the "Evil Dead" flicks which are a bit more tongue in cheek and show a perverse sense of humor. The first "Nightmare on Elm Street" was great for that reason too.

I love the classics.
FRANKENSTEIN BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN SON OF FRANKENSTEIN WEREWOLF OF LONDON THE WOLFMAN DRACULA (Bela Lugosi) DRACULA (1931 Spanish version) THE MUMMY THE MUMMY'S HAND (not a sequel!) WHITE ZOMBIE
and possibly the best of the bunch...
ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN
But the one I've been watching the most (since I got the videotape with the Rick Wakeman score...)
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Lon Chaney; NOBODY's done it even remotely right since!!)

Killer rabbits? Reminds me of a Moloko song [/b]Paul, have you ever seen the movie "Them", a science fiction/horror movie from the fifties. It's one of my all time favorites, I've been watching it (and have been scared) since I was really little. I love Giant Ant movies too! I love scary animal movies too, especially Jaws. That's one of the scariest movies I've ever seen, and I can say that I enjoyed Jaws 2! The less talked about 3 and 4, the better.

BTW, I just watched the Shining again last night. I've seen it too many times for it to be really scary for me, but the last twenty minutes of it is one of my favorite sequences in any horror movie. Jack coming through the door with the axe really is a good scene no matter how much it's played out, and whether you think it's scary or not! Nicholson is at his all-time best and craziest in this too. Whenever I see him on TV, I just assume that that is what he's really like in real life Oh, and Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein was a great movie too! The Wolfman, Dracula, Frankestein and Abbott and Costello in one movie! This was another favorite from when I was a kid, my uncle is crazy about this movie! I just rewatched Nightmare on Elm Street Part I the other week, and I still find it pretty entertaining. I'm not a big a fan of it as I am of the Halloweens, but it's still a good watch. Johnny Depp is always the man too.

I loved how they did the special effects of the "oversized" rabbits.

what is this version? Sounds like the 30th Anniversary edition to me where they added 15 minutes of footage. I think both versions (original and this) are available on the Millennium Edition but I'm not sure.

[/b]DEATH OF DEATH was a story available only on georgeromero.com, the site no longer exists so i guess george isnt making the story available anymore, i am dying to read it. This anthology set in romero's universe, whats the name of the book. I read 2 books set in a romeroesque universe, REIGN OF THE DEAD and its sequel APOCALYPSE END. The books are pretty good but lacks in gore but then again its just a book and the ending kinda bites....no pun intemded.
