That's funny, even if I think it would be unmanageable. Too many to give face time even within a weekly comic.
I've always made an analogy between the Legion's initial with it's maximum roster number: L = 50, in roman numerals, as the word and some early depictions of the assembled Legionnaires (for try outs or trials, for instance) surely evoke Roman concepts.

Hey, great observation Positive Man! I never thought of "L" as a Roman numeral! A Legion of 50 would be more manageable realistically - even though the Legion of 100 is more fun - and in a weekly magazine with a second feature spotlighting each Legionnaire we'd get to "know" all of them better. Those we don't well enough, that is. smile

Thanks Dain. Ever since I saw a Legion flag (with the big gold L imposed over a blue field) this analogy keeps coming to my mind.

Harlak the young Khund who apprenticed under White Witch on Sorcerer's World during the Magic Wars and later helped in the 5 yr. later Mordru attack i believe, could be a good candidate for Legionnaire or a reformed Hywyndr the Elemental, the Gil'Dishpan that attacked Braal who had control over the elements.

I always liked the name XS because it was simple and direct, a departure from most Legionnaire names, and a clever pun on "excess".

For that matter, Jenni herself was one of my favorite highlights of the reboot: fast-talking, innocent, cute, and a legacy hero all rolled into one. What's not to like?

I think a Legion of 50 or 100 could work - if you had more than one title.

Assuming we have the current formula of featuring three or four Legionnaires in an issue (which I like!), then you would have at least one year between some characters being featured in a 50+ Legion, and two years for the 100 legion. Two titles or a lot of group stories would have to be used.

Still, I'd like to see it tried, what the heck?

Ironically, I for my part always felt that XS WAS The Worst Name Ever... it was her character and crappy code-name that made me hate the Reboot instantly. Talk about a bad start - you just can't undo it...[/b]
I've never been entirely sold that that "XS" is an entirely appropriate name for Jenni - there's a huge debate about it somewhere here, but its' buried in a long thread about something else - but AS A NAME, it's not that bad.

"Kid Flash" on the other hand... if you said that in the street, you'd be arrested. It's child abuse.

Yeah.

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I think 'XS' is probably the lamest name held by a full-fledged Legionnaire, but Jenni is a pretty groovy character. One of the few postboot Legionnaires that actually felt like she belonged in the Legion.

Well, I never could get into XS somehow. She never had a chance: I was totally shattered that they had just erased 30+ years of Legion Lore and tried to console me with a kiddie Legion. I just could not believe it!

So there she was, and I thought "who the hell is she supposed to be", and she got this lousy codename and all my disappointment and hatred for TPTB could be targeted at this new character which never should have been there in the first place had they just not erased my beloved (even if very convoluted) continuity...

So she never had and will never have a chance in my book (adding the fact that I don't give a damn about Speedster characters, yaaaaawn...). It was just like - you want to have Polar Boy, and Sensor Girl, and Jacques Foccart, and Wildfire, and DC was just saying heretakethatoneshesXSshessocoooooool and you were saying no no no, I don't WANT any new characters, I want the old ones back and they came again theoldonesaregonetakeXSshessocoooool and no matter what you did, the old characters just did not return and they shoved that XS girl down our throats (wasn't there a whole ANNUAL dedicated to her???) - so out of pure reluctance you just COULD NOT dig this character cause DC just tried so hard to make her work...

So much for my own personal Legion purgatory back in 1995.... frown

I understand. I felt almost exactly that way about M'Onel. Valor I decided I could deal with (heck, it was about time Lar got a superhero name) but retconning the reboot was too much for me...or is that rebooting the retcon..whatever.. I liked the starfield costume but the only time he was interesting to read was during the five minute period where he was a member of the Oversight watch.

Legion names are a funny question. Most of the old ones are classics but the impression I have is that they are frowned upon by younger readers. Some have been "updated" and I came to prefer the new ones. Ayla's Spark or Garth's Livewire come to mind.
Most of the reboot's new legionnaires names, on the other hand, struck me as lame: I like Gear and Kid Quantum (in itself an old name) but
Xs, Gates, Thunder, Kinetix, Shikari, Monstress could all be improved.

Agree that the named sucked but Jenni herself rocked.

I didn't like Jenni/XS at first (I felt there were too many "Flashes" around) but she kind of grew on me as a character. So did Kinetix. She had a touch of "whimsy" that I liked.

Some comic fans even here feel Legionnaire names are "silly" which I consider a "sacrilege" (I'm joking)and set them straight, pointing out how many super-hero names can sound silly if one is not used to them and has no connection to the character behind the name.
