The fate of Bernard, Rose, and Vincent is one of the bigger mysteries at the moment.

What about Cindy and the other with-the-Others Tailies? Why are they immune to the jumps?

I had a feeling that was Sayid's plan. This leads me to two thoughts:

(1) this does not bode well thematically for Sayid. When a twist like this happens, it usually means the character's story has hit a critical turning point that could result in his death.

(2) Ben survivies somehow and this leads him to be the way he is. Possibly because the island heals him or the something is done to save him (Temple?).

Meh. Bit of a filler episode tonight, just filling in gaps that were already intuitively filled.

Anybody have the feeling that young Ben is found next week and treated by the "Hostiles," laying the groundwork for his long-term conversion?

Christian and Claire, Locke, now Ben. I'm thinking there's something to death on this island...

Just spouting off.

i am pretty sure sayid shooting ben was meant to be, ben had to have a tumour removed from his spine later in life, maybe because of the gunshot the tumour develops later.

I actually was afraid the episode would end with someone killing Sayid to prevent him from shooting Ben! I mean it was very Sayid-centric with the now-rare centric flashbacks, it really felt like a curtain call, especially as the flashbacks tied up his O-6 loose ends. I agree with Cobalt--he may have survived this episode, but Sayid's probably a goner.

I wonder if the next few episodes will feature O-6 flashbacks showing how everyone but Jack and Locke got on the plane since there are still unanswered questions with Ben, Kate, Hurley and Sun.

The one thing with Sayid that still needs closure is the question of who actually *was* responsible for Nadia's death. Widmore's killing her doesn't really make any sense with what we no thus far, but Ben can't be responsible for it because of the timeline.

This actually sounds really likely, now that you mention it!

I assumed Ben was responsible. How is it impossible, Eryk?

When Ben wakes up in Tunisia, the first thing he does is to go to a hotel, and the news of Nadia's death is playing in the background.

Hmm. Maybe it was someone from Iraq getting vengeance on Sayid, then. Widmore really wouldn't make much sense. Unless Ben arranged it through one of his agents.

But Ben wouldn't know which (if any) of the survivors got off (would get off) the island. From his relative point of view, he left the exact same time they would have, so he couldn't pre-arrange it.

I think that it would be a pity if Sayid died soon, he´s in such a dark place right now. And it won't get any better any time soon, he will either be caught by the Dharma people, who won't be happy with what he did to Ben, or he'll have to join the Hostiles, and who knows what that will be like (now that I think about it, we don't know that living with the Hostiles is a bad thing. That's probably where Rose and Bernard are...).

In any case, having Sayid die right now would be quite unsatisfactory, at least to me. It would be much more fun to watch him grow out of the hole in which he is....

Don't get me wrong--I love Sayid's character as well. But since we know a major character is dying, we look for evidence in how the storylines are going. Certainly, many (not all)of the deaths we've seen in Lost have been foreshadowed that way.

This past episode reminded me so much of Eko's last. Like a swan song for all of the most personal characterizations. Since Sayid is such a major part of this show they're obviously giving him much more than that if he is the one who will die, which is why it may take the rest of the season.

I was telling my wife that its so funny. I've been watching this since season one. I've rewatched all the seasons three times. I feel like I know Sayid so much, and feel everything he's been through. He's like an old friend at this point. Its so hard to see him so torn, and if he does die, that might be the roughest one of them all.

So much good with Kate, Sawyer, Juliet and Jack! And Hurley and Miles had some good lines.

But those last five minutes:

Final Richard/Ben sequence - I had goose bumps. Like most of us, I knew he'd have to go to Richard and I knew Richard would take him to the Temple...but it was awesome to see.

Yet another great Locke scene at the end.

Preview next week: please, please, please let Penny and Desmond be okay. And the Temple! And possibly at long last the monster revealed!

You know, I don't think I ever enjoyed a "Kate episode" until tonight. She usually feels very one-note to me, but tonight they wrote her in a very complex well-rounded fashion. I like it!

Loved the Hurley/Miles interplay about the nature of time travel (especially after recent events on these boards)... and classic John Locke... "Welcome back to the land of the living"

So... what do you think the over/under is on:

<span class="spoiler_containter"><span class="spoiler_wording">Click Here For A Spoiler</span><span class="spoiler_text">Ben (older Ben, that is) buying the farm next week</span></span>?

I've read on some spoilery sites, though (I know... I know) that a very major character buys it relatively soon. Apart from the "romantic three" and Locke... I don't think there is anyone else I'd really classify as "very major" other than him.

Well, Cobalt's got me expecting Sayid to bite it any second now--I'd consider him major as he's been on the show from Day One. My initial thought was actually Hurley. And then we've yet to learn what's happened to Desmond--maybe next week?!?! Also gotta wonder how expendable Juliet may be (loved her this episode, though--wonder if she took a peek, and if so, what she thought smile ).

The article I linked a few pages ago also implied whomever dies is much beloved. Don't think "love to hate" was what it meant.

Interesting ethical dilemma this ep, though...can anyone really blame those who didn't want to help young Ben? Kinda the infant Hitler argument in microcosm?

I wouldn't be surprised if Juliet doesn't live through the series of Lost. By helping deliver Horace's wife's baby, it kind of brought her first important plotline full circle. And now she's found happiness with Sawyer.

So essentially, several of the major facets of her story have been completed (kinda like Charlie). The other major one is Ben. One could argue her role in the Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triangle-turned quadrangle, but her death I think would actually be the lynchpin to progress that to its final phases.

The only other major thing I can think of is what if Juliet has been an Other all along, infiltrating the group. Now that she's backwards in time and with Sawyer, she's been able to forget that role and get past it. But if they return...? I know thats a bit far-fetched, but I wouldn't put it past them. Juliet is extremely dangerous...we've just been distracted by other things to remember that.

Next week sounds like we'll see for sure if Des and Penny survived Ben's attack. Plus the Monter. Plus the Temple. Plus Locke being awesome. Plus that bounty-hunter woman getting whacked (ha! New characters this late in the show? Never!)

This was certainly the best Kate episode since the first season.

So is Ben going to be changed in the same way that Rousseau's crew were changed by entering the Temple?
