I noticed these zombies aren't exactly "Dawn of the Dead-remake" sprinting but they ain't "Night of the Living Dead-remake" stumblebums either... they can get a little quickness behind them, which amps the fright up for me.

What's funny is that the remake Dawn of the Dead was on right beefore this, and I turned it on near the end where the mall cop blows up the big group of them. The runners are truly more frightening...not necessarily more deadly...because of the speed with which they travel.
I like that The Walking Dead can have them amp it up a bit if there's something to chase.
I noticed that they just amble around or actually go motionless otherwise...until a meal happens by.

Oddly enough, the opening scene with the little girl zombie was pretty much the only part that didn't do it for me. I understand that it was a 'mission statement' of sorts, but other than the relatively little bit of facial damage near her mouth, she didn't come off particularly menacing. I think if she was either more scary looking or more aggressively attacking, it would've worked better. Maybe I'm just too desensitized to horror flicks, but I wasn't sold on her as I was elsewhere with the zombies in the episode. Other than her appearance, she seemed mostly like a child seeking help from an adult...who was promptly rewarded with a shot to the head. The Dawn of the Dead remake had a much more effective zombie kid scene in its opening minutes!
That's pretty much the only misstep in the entire episode as far as I'm concerned. Though if I came into this cold, I might've been unimpressed enough by it to be turned off so early into it. I guess they didn't want to traumatize the child actor too much!

I'll agree with CeeTee... I felt the opening was a slight misstep and borrowed too much from the DotD remake (and the scene from which this may have been borrowed was MUCH scarier).
People are already citing a '28 Days Later' borrow with the whole waking in the hospital post-apocalypse thing.

The reason I say it blew my mind is that in DotD, the little girl is just thrown out the door. Not matter how much more viscious, the fact that she gets one to the head and it is shown is much more shocking to me than even having her take a bite out of someone.

I do think the point I believe CeeTee made about these TWD TV zombies having a smidge of their old selves was shown very well by the little girl. What zombie stops to pick up a teddy bear? That wasn't shown by accident.

Well, the only way that could have been avoided was to change the whole set-up to Rick's story. From what I understand, neither the comic nor "28 Days Later" borrowed from each other. They debuted within 3 months of each other. Yeah, there are unfortunate similarities, but people will see they are superficial as the series continues. Plus, so far no military crazies in TWD!

I'm glad they didn't change the hospital... that hospital was chilling.

I thought they did the hospital up right. The differences between book and screen didn't bother me at all.

I liked how all those bodies were outside the hospital in bloody sheets. I didn't remember that from the book. Very effective! And the black flies sold things really well.

Can you imagine waking up in the hospital like that? So creepy..
Anyone think anything strange about one of the zombies from the bus in Atlanta? He slowly started following Rick (i think that's his name) while he was on the horse, and looked like he had bit of emotion.. and then he later appeared again at the tank. He looks more intelligent than the others..

I think it may just be that he has become the focus of the zombie pics from the season...one of the ones they were most happy with the way the makeup and that turned out, so he gets a bit of extra face time...at least I hope so.

Also, IMDB has the cast listings and episode count for everyone. Some interesting things to consider if you want to look at them.

I saw the show and it was awesome, i've read the comics which were fantastic, and judging by the pics I've seen, they seem to be following the comic....well at least some story elements, whether they stray from the comic remains to be seen.

I kept looking for TWD artist Charlie Adlard as one of the zombies but I just don't know what he looks like well enough to pick him out. I think it's really cool though that he got to be a zombie extra in the premiere!

Read some stuff on AMCC threads about the series, and I find it hilarious that people are actually upset about the Horse getting eaten. I mean really?
Also they are trying to justofy Rick being in a coma for a month with no food or water. Simple. He wasn't. The Hospital lasted longer than most places but eventually was overcome, not long before Rick woke up. Also, his wound would not have necessarily induced a coma, but medication they had him on may have been used to keep him still as to not move the wrong way while getting better.
Simple explanations thought of in seconds. Why do people get all riled up about things like that when it is a show about dead people getting up and trying to eat their neighbors?

I agree if you want to watch a show about zombies over running the world, dont get worked over little things that defy "your" explanation.

Is anyone else getting as tired as I am of hearing people complain about the beginning "Oh, 28 Days Later did that first"? I feel like beating them over the head with a copy of The Day of the Triffids!

Rick, AMC announced on Facebook they are now streaming episode 1 and will stream ONLY episode 1. So you can watch it now there but I assume from the phrasing they used you will need to watch the rest of the episodes as they air on AMC Sunday nights.
