After two episodes, I still like it. smile

OK I saw the episode titled "Captain Jack Harkness". Now as much as I like seeing two handsome men dancing and kissing, this was not believable. There is no way Captain Jack Harkness (the original) would have done that in public in 1941.

There I've said it and I feel better for saying it.

I've been catching up on Torchwood due to the Writer's strike. Are/were Ianto and Cap'n Jack special friends? Seems like there's been numerous couplings on the team, this one included...

One thing that bothers me about Torchwood (or at least needs to be addressed more) is how there appears to be no oversight. I missed some of the eps so maybe it was addressed, but their job seems too important to be left to just the five of them and to be honest, they don't necessarily seem the most qualified, except for Jack. They might be "outside the law" but I'd like to see them answer to someone moreso than they do now.

As I understand it, this is simply one of the various torchwood operations in the UK. The main Torchwood centre with the overarching overview was in Canary Wharf and was destroyed in the Cyberman invasion over in Doctor Who.
Ultimate control has never been addressed in the series, but as it was set up by Queen Victoria I would guess that there is a secret Government Department funding all this with direct contact to the PM

Also, they are well known to the local police and army units as they are able to walk in and flash an ID card and take over.

OK, I've been a good little newspaper employee and not broken the embargo on season 2. I don't know when it premieres in England, but it'll be on BBC American Jan. 23. I saw the first two episodes (BBCA sent the uncut English versions), and they were awesome. (They asked that reviews be held until Jan. 7.)

James Marsters has a great character, and the episodes were lots of fun, while setting up a nasty overarching story for this season.

Torchwood: Sci-Fi and homos two of my fav-o-rite things!

I haven't seen it yet (aside from a few clips on Youtube) but I'm hearing good things. Anyone watching this? Is it worth my time?

The show as a whole or next week's five-parter?

The show as a whole is quite good -- lots of interesting characters and a solid core cast.

The five-part "Children of Earth," which makes up the entire third season (those wacky Brits), is bloody brilliant.

I blogged about it a bit today, if you'd like to take a peek.

Thanks SS! Now just I have to decide whether to watch this or get caught up on Dr. Who first.

Well, if you get caught up with "Dr. Who" first, you'll see the first appearance of Capt. Jack Harkness, the main character in "Torchwood."

Hello!!!! I watched the new episode last night via:

xfinitytv because I don't have cable.

I liked it, A lot of time was spent on introducing a new audience to the Torchwood concept and the Miracle Day event.

I have to say I'm not loving the new American characters ... but I am loving the attention on Gwen and Captain Jack in the later half of the episode. (Gwen comes of as the badnass she is)

a particularly funny moment
<span class="spoiler_containter"><span class="spoiler_wording">Click Here For A Spoiler</span><span class="spoiler_text">gwen shooting at people while holding her baby lol</span></span>

otherwise it still seems like Torchwood, the direction and the cinematography ... (a bit dark for my computer screen but oh well)

I did enjoy the episode as it was playing ... like when we finally egt to see gwen and how the event obviously has to do with jack's powers.

I am missing Tosh, Owen, and Ianto very much though.

Torchwood Miracle Day does need some more scientists and less law enforcement agents.

It's been awhile since the 'Children of Earth', hasn't it?
Is that because of the BBC gap here in the States or is it just my memory or . . .?

I haven't been able to find a new Dr. Who in forever, either.
sigh

I would love to see both of them but I haven't heard any news about them participating. And it dosn't look like it from the trailers ... Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under fame will be on. I'm hoping for at least a cameo by Martha since she has been on Torchwood before and has a role in the universe.

On that note:

There is a Dr. Who I think currently running on cable, and this is the continuation of the new Dr. after David Tennant left. (so one season, and one currently running with the new Dr.)

I left with David Tennant, I thought the new actor played the Doctor like a David Tennant imitation .... and usually i thought the Doctor's personality changed with the new incarnation. (at least a bit - dunno) Also, I didn't like that his companion is some sort of sexy singing telegram girl .... seemed kinda like a warning sign. I wasn't feeling the episodes either ... (all IMO) I tried a couple.

But I will probably watch it at some point. That said I don't know what Martha or Mickey's role is in the series in the past two seasons. (Mickey seems busy as an actor)

If Martha does show up she will probably solve the whole thing herself. laugh

Interesting thing is I heard that the latest season of DR. WHO is based in the US, just like Torchwood.

Candle, most of the Dr. Who's are on netflicks (streaming) and discs ... except for the current season. Same with Torchwood.

I watched the current episode on something called xinfintytv my friend sent me a link to.

It wasn't working for me on starz.com

Not sure if the current dr. who is ont he internet otherwise ... i dont see it on bbc.

At first I thought David Tennant was doing a Christopher Eccleston imitation too. But they really are all different after you've watched them a while.

I don't mind that they are all being written with the same feeling and energy. There's is something to not fixing what isn't broken.
