Ok, besides personnel preference for singers good looks, personalities and best-written songs, who has your favorite voices to listen to? Here's some of mine:

Female: Diana Ross. Her voice is just very soothing to me, I love listening to her when I'm falling asleep or driving. I don't know any other singer that sounds like her, especially ones out right now.

Male: I love Bob Dylan's voice. The scratchiness to it, plus the pure genius in his lyrics working in sync with the emotion in his voice...it just works better than most singers for me.

A lot of my favorite bands don't have vocalists with the best voices, although they often fit the type of music being played (i.e. James Hetfield from Metallica, the Clash, Green Day, etc.). I enjoy them immensely, but Diana Ross and Bob Dylan just have voices that I really do it for me.

Female: Sheryl Crow. And I embarrassingly admit that I kind of like Christina Aguilera's voice (unlike her other pop-counterparts).

Male: Sting, and I second Elton John.

Lucinda Williams and Sarah Mclachlan for sure!

I don't really usually find guys' voices soothing, although Josh Kelley's recent tender single "Everybody Wants You" was pleasing and soothing to my ears.

I never really find guys voices soothing either...but strangely Bob Dylan's voice has a real calming effect on me. I'm sure it's all mental laugh

Umbra Stevie Nicks, Fiona Apple, Tracey Chapman, Macy Grey, Erykah Badu, I agree that Christina Aguilera's voice is better than her competition, Jewel, Johnette Napolitano (from the old band Concrete Blonde)

Al Green, the singer from Maroon 5, Jamiroquai, Dave Matthews Umbra

Al Green's voice is awesome. I used to break that out all the time for 'after hours' sessions, although it always reminds me of one girl in particulur now that I dated for a time. Great taste there, Miss T!

Jamiroquai is very smooth, I like him.

Recently bought the Maroon 5 album and it's one of my new favorites...can't quit listening to "This Love"! laugh

Umbra If I listen to She Will Be Loved alone, I cry. Every time. Not huge sobs but my eyes water. His voice is like velvet and the emotion of the lyrics cuts into me every time!

For soothing, I'd go with Ella Fitzgerald. She's probably not even heard much anymore, but what a smooth, rich sound she had. I really prefer voices like Stevie Nicks, but personally don't find her soothing.

k.d. lang, Enya, and Frank Sinatra.

I'd include Streisand, but her voice has become rough in these past ten years. Last soothing with "The Concert" (1993-94), currently out on DVD, perhaps. Don't buy "The Movie Album."

Grey and Scott- Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. are both great singers that those rare male voices I find both very enjoyable soothing.

Another odd choice for soothing female voice: Olivia Newton John, although I couldn't tell you the names of any of her songs ever besides Greece (and I'm not really big on Greece). Not really a big fan of her music, just her voice.

Mindy Smith, a current blues singer, is blowing me away with her vocal talent.

Martin Zellar, a local guy, can really move you with some of his more poignant work.

For some reason, Bernard Sumner's (of New Order) voice always soothes me so. I was fighting a bout with depression around the time "Regret" came out and I'd listen to that one track for hours.

I gotta agree with Tracy Thorn's voice, as well.
