I'm sure it was a dream Cobie. After Jack wakes up in bed, he wanders around the house in a towel, and you can clearly see no surgery scar from his emergency appendectomy. Consider his surgery and how they focused on the actual cutting into him, something like that would leave a mark (they weren't doing it laproscopicly afterall...) and personal experience tells me there should be.
Just spouting off.

I think it was a flash forward, which takes place before the FF from the end of season 3 and after Hurley crashes his car and is re-institutionalized (FF from beginning of season 4). It shows why Jack started questioning leaving the island (Hurley planted the seeds) and Jack started taking meds and drinking a lot. Basically paranoia has set in, and he begininng his downward spiral here, leading up to the season 3 finale FF where he and Kate are apart again and he's screaming about having to go back to the island. It would be a wierd coincidence for this to have been a dream sequence that happened to fit perfectly between two known flash forwards (unless this whole show has reverted to the "dream sequence" and "everybody's already dead" type theories that have been floating around since day one). Possible, but I'm hoping for a bit more than this... With the "Sawyer stayed behind" comment it makes me want to revisit Jin's death. Maybe he is still on the island too, but for the sake of the "Oceanic 6" story they had to symbolicly bury those who had not returned. Jin's tombstone could be over an empty grave, and Sun wanted to go there to be near him in some way (since she can't get back to the island). I know she talked in Korean at his gravesite about missing him so much, but I can't remember if she said he was dead or just "gone". It would also explain why she called out for her husband during childbirth (she knows he is still alive even though the world at large believes him to be dead at the bottom of the ocean). I just assumed after her spotlight episode that she had called out to her deceased husband because she was hysterical during the pain of childbirth. Maybe Jin's still around too!

I'm positive Jin is still alive and on the island for all the reasons you mentioned Craig.
And yeah, I don't think it was a dream either. It just fits too well with all the other flashbacks.
When Kate said she had to do a favor for someone I thought "oh crap, its Ben!" and then she said Sawyer and I thought "wow, its even worse (for Jack)!"

Craig, in this week's sequence, Hurley mentions seeing Charlie on the bench at the institution. And he's ovbiously in worse shape since his other FF appearances. Also, Kate mentions to Jack she's glad he's changed his mind, suggesting about Aaron. So if anything, this would be after the other FF's.
Considering we still have Locke's eye scar, and Ben shows the beating he took, I'd be surprised if the producers just chose to leave off Jack's scar.
As for Jin, he's still on the island.
And I think this week's "Sawyer chose to stay" and last season's "he would be upset" are implying Sawyer is on the island but still keeping Kate and Jack apart.

it was a flash forward, jack and kate got together after the trial, hurley was the same hurley who sat talking to charlie on the bench, it wasnt a dream. Its also the beginning of jacks spiral downwards. It all happens before last season's finale flashforward where jack is on drugs and messed up and apparantly jack and kate seperate because of jacks problems.

I want to know more about Charlotte! (and Miles, too)...
I'm absolutely loving this season. Too bad it's so short...

Somehow I haven't enjoyed the past couple of episodes as much as the first part of the season. I think it's mostly just the fact that we've had the first deaths that have really annoyed me.
That said, I'm really starting to like Daniel, Charlotte, and Miles. And the Claire/Christian thing is kind of intriguing as well. And next week's episode looks really awesome!

Expanding on what EDE just said: even though I'm enjoying this season a great deal, it's still disturbing how "extraneous" characters are being culled recently. I'm beginning to wonder if there are going to be any Others left, for example, other than Ben. A bunch of Others were killed in last season's finale. And many that we didn't get a good look at to see who got blown up were retconned as many of the named Others we've seen at different points, including Isabel and Aldo, according to Lostpedia. Sure, most only appeared in an episode or two, but I think they deserved to at least die on-camera. Isabel in particular seemed to be set up for greater things--remember, she was the one who prosecuted Juliet after Juliet killed Danny. Now, with Karl and Alex dead, the only significant Others we have left are Ben, Juliet and Richard and a handful of ancillaries like Amelia and Harper. What's next, an explosion at the Others Temple? This is kind of reminiscent of what happened to all the Tailies other than Bernard, eh? And Danielle...she deserved a better death scene, dammit! I was SURE she was still alive! I fear for Juliet, now that we know there's nothing really there with Jack. Maybe her importance to Ben will be enough to help her survive the season? In any case I expect many more bodies before the season ends. In the past deaths have really been an event on Lost. Now, I'm afraid we're being set up for more and more and more. This isn't ruining Lost for me, but it's a disturbing trend anyway.
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

I'm cautiously feeling the same as EDE and Lardy. I just hope there's a larger plan (by the creators) to address all these characters that will make me feel satisfied.

Given the previews for next week, I'm half expected a scene near the end of the series with all the departed characters standing around as ghosts, ala Return of the Jedi!

Lately it seems like Lost and Battlestar Galactica have both declared open season on their rosters of B characters. I really don't care for it personally. Especially when there never seem to be any dramatic repercussions. Nobody seems to care much about the three redshirt survivors that got gunned down at the Other's barracks. There was pretty cheap.

Originally posted by Cobalt Kid: Yeah, I didn't like that. Those people survived for three seasons through monsters, hatches, others, crazy french women, etc., and I didn't like seeing three of them gunned down so easily. I hope *all* of the redshirts don't end up biting it before the show's finish.

Great scenes so far. Great 'holy shit' moment: Richard Alpert with baby John Locke.
Locke episodes are always some of the best each season--this one's no different. Since the show returned I already like this one 20 minutes in than the other two.

Agreed! One of the best of the season so far! Lots of plotline advancement, lots of good moments! The Hurley/Ben dynamic may be the best unexpected dynamic of the season!
I had all kinds of comments to make but got side-tracked. The remaining episodes (2 I believe, but the last being 2 hours, so *really* 3) should be awesome.
Loving that Christian Shepard is at last being addressed.
Widmore's influencing Flight 823 crashing suddenly again becomes possible, despite that question seemginly being answered in Season 2 (re: Desmond). Abbandon (sp? The guy from the Wire) at last gives us someone working for Widmore is as interesting as one of the Others.
Richard Alpert I'm told would not have been able to reappear this season if not for the strike. So that works to our advantage, since he's one of the most interesting mysteries of the show so far. Best hint: Ben's comments, which may or may not refer to him ("I wasn't always their leader").

Ugh! More Locke.... Since the season opener I've been thinking the island is going to be reset, and this week just gives me more reason to think so. Locke is more... personable. (Cobie, that hurt to say it.) Hurley must be a fun character to write. First the line about his taste in dressing, then the candy bar split. Should I be offended that the comic book and knife were paired together? I do feel cheated in regards to Claire, but it would have been tough to watch the actually scene.

Did I hear my TV right? We have an episode next week, then skip a week to the 29th for the finale?

Part 1 of the finale is next week, and then skip a week before we get parts 2 and 3.

Ok, don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere already. But we are now sitting down to watch the episode and I love Alpert appearing. Does anyone else think he's the smoke monster, the island's persona?

I didn't get that. But Ben's comment that he wasn't always their leader had me thinking Alpert was at one point.

Maybe it was just the picture here but if you look at Alpert when he's staring through the nursery window at baby Locke, his eyes are totally black. No pupil, no white, just black. I had to back it up and look again because his eyes have always been shown to be normal (that I can recall).

I think if that was the case Scooter it'd be a pretty awesome reveal.
It wouldn't jive with Juliet's comments that they didn't know what it was (but doesn't like their fences), but then again, Ben has already proven that *he* knows what it is, though most of the Others (post-Ben) probably have not been told this.
