Hey, hombre, if you've got a problem with the Miami Sound Machine, maybe you need to feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger....

Plus, I'm so sick of Brown Eyed Girl I blocked it out.

And wait a minute; Asia doesn't get you kicked off the island?!? That band was hardly ROCKNRAWL!

Anyhoo, back to the regularly scheduled program...

Is Prince rock enough? What about Purple Rain era Prince....

Computer Blue--Prince

lol
ok i'm getting mad
no offense to all you who wish to participate in this fun game
BUT ITS ROCK N ROLL THINGY
get it!!
not country music thingy where the answers can be
dont it make my brown eyes blue by crystal gayle
or miami sound machine... WTF????
Come on play the game, i love everyone's contribution but for fuck sake lets keep it rock n roll cause THATS WHAT IT IS.
couldnt even come up with
I agree Crystal Gayle isn't rock n' roll although most country these days is just watered down country rock.

But Rock and Roll has some country roots. Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Burnette, Roy Orbison and even Johnny Cash were early Rockabilly stars.

BTW the 1st Duran Duran album is pretty good, I'd call it rock n roll.

Rock 'n' roll is a very broad category of music. It can't easily be pinned down as, say country music, or speed metal or hip hop (though even the definitions of those may be changing).

I don't mean to pick on Labby, but he seems to have a very narrow definition of rock. He even excludes A Flock of Seagulls despite the screaming guitar and driving beat of "I Ran." (OK, it's novelty rock, but still rock.)

So, perhaps, Labby, you ought to define for us exactly what you mean by rock 'n' roll. I'm not saying we'll follow the rules, but it would help to know what they are. wink

I saw Flock of Haircuts(Seagulls) they sucked. I Ran is a good song but they were just boring synthesizer(sp?) rock. But it's still rock n roll.

Prince is rock whether rock people know it or not. Heck, he's rock whether *he* knows it or not.

Dust in the Wind--Kansas

Further proving that there are no bands named after states or cities that do not suck.

Also I don't know if pop songs are being counted as rock and roll.

And the Crystal Gayle song I mentioned was played on pop stations as a cross over hit

just my two cents

I second that. Is there anyone else that has gotten as much airplay out of one mediocre album?
