Yeah, I saw the pilot in San Diego and watched it again last night. It's awesome.

They cut at least one line, though. When Audrey (I forget her "PD" name) asks Ned if he likes girls, and he says yes, originally, she said, "I didn't want to assume." Too bad that five seconds had to go for some commercial. It got a nice laugh in San Diego.

I liked the pilot very much as well. During the first twenty minutes I still had the feeling that the series might eventually collapse under its own quirkiness. Thankfully, though, they had enough substance to go with the visuals and the whimsy story-telling that they managed a nice balancing act, never becoming too morbid or sappy or sarcastic. Instead, they've produced something with genuine heart. It's also oddly life-affirming for being so corpse-ridden.

I especially love the Darling Mermaid Darlings, what with their grassy-tasting goat cheese and their shotguns and their extra lung capacity.

I only managed to catch about ten minutes. My impression was that someone thought to take the movie "Amelie" and make it a detecitve show.

Is it possible to give me a brief description of what this show is about? I haven't heard a thing about it until this thread (common for me laugh )

I loved this show! The visual and storytelling style has a Tim Burten-esque feel to it.. definitely on my watch list.

From TV.com :

This romantic drama shows us the strange world of a man, Ned, who can bring dead people back to life through the power of his touch. The people he touches, however, can only stay alive for one minute, and if they don't die again, someone else nearby will die. Ned decides to use his ability to solve crime. He and a local investigator, Emerson, bring murder victims back to life and find out who killed them, to cash in on case-solving rewards. But, when Ned brings an old crush back to life, and decides to let her live, things start to get complicated...

It was absolutely wonderful! And I think I'm in love with Chuck! I only hope a show so eccentric can maintain its momentum without wearing thin over time.

I very much enjoyed it. My only concern is its concept is a bit difficult to explain, so it may be hard for this show to get word-of-mouth publicity--call it Quantum Leap syndrome. wink

Great show, though. I hope it lasts.

The leads are great-- but the supporting cast is terrific... Swoosie Kurtz and Ellen Greene (the afore-mentioned Darling Mermaid Darlings), Chi McBride and Kristen Chenowith.

There was some very nice dialogue in the first episode, I thought.

I dropped the show last night. It's not bad, but it's a little too quirky for me. I like the premise, and the actors are good, but I just wasn't feeling it.

Caught the show last night and it really is a shameless rip-off of "Amelie" in terms of style and its "quirkiness" with the art design, the use of narrator, camera movement etc. (almost as shameless as those traveling gnome commercials) Still, they do it well, capturing a fairy tale quality to the relationship between the pie-maker and the undead girl he can never ever touch again.

Very nice to see Kristin Chenoweth do a musical number as well.

It's actually a shame they have to make it a murder detective show to sustain it as a series.

There's definitely a heavy slice of Amelie in it, but actually what it reminded me of at first was A Series of Unfortunate Events, when the sense of whimsical dark humor.

You know what? Behind this elaborate premise, whimsical presentation and quirky sensibilty is a complicated set-up for something very simple and basic that hasn't been explored much on TV (or, really, in entertainment as a whole) for a long time: the opportunity to explore classic romantic and platonic love. Having two lovers who can never experience each other physically is possibly the most refreshing concept possible to explore in a medium which has become so obsessed with sexuality and instant gratification that it's forgotten what a real love story is.

Make no mistake, that's what "Pushing Daisies" is really about, and I, for one, welcome it!

The other thing it reminded me of in terms of quirky romantic detecive shows was "Moonlighting" (and we all know what happened to that show once the two leads hit the sheets)

And "Daisies" will apparently avoid that because it's lead couple can never do that...or she'll croak! smile

So, here's an interesting question:

Is Chuck effectively immortal now? It's been kind of implied that Digby is (at least that he can't die from natural causes).

According to what we've seen so far (that is, if I don't totally misinterpret anything) she should be immortal. Digby apparently doesn't age, so neither should Chuck. And as for unnatural causes of death; the people Ned temporarily reanimates seem to shrug off their fatal injuries like bitten-off cheeks and cases of glass-face quite well instead of dying again the instant they are revived. So why shouldn't Chuck be able to overcome a bit of deadly bodily harm as well?

Then again, Chuck actually has no business looking as non-waterlogged and non-nibbled-on by fishes as she does considering how her body was disposed. Since she does, though, maybe different (main character slash love interest-)rules apply to her. Maybe she's a special reanimated corpse.

I've just started watching this and I really like it. It's definitely not like anything I've seen on television before. And I'm totally in love with the pie man.
