I do. Caroline's mom loves it so I've gotten into since I watch it with her. Mostly the Nextel races, though, since she loves Jeff Gordon.

Really? Though I do like Top Thrill Dragster...
White. A blank page or canvas. His favorite. So... many... possibilities.

It's interesting how many distinct "personalities" there are in NASCAR... kind of like pro wrestling, only the guys involved are ostensibly being themselves. I haven't had the chance to watch all that much, but I did indulge my collector's streak by getting a NASCAR cup at my local fast food joint...
And I read that one out of every three Americans watches NASCAR, so by sheer probability alone there ought to be a couple on LW!

My old roommate had a major Jeff Gordon fixation as well, so we watched a lot of races. I haven't really paid much attention to it recently, and I'm not fond of that new Top 10 playoff deal.

And proud of it!
It all started during that cross-country drive, when I had almost nothing to listen to except country music...

Mom loved NASCAR and, in particular, Jeff Gordon. It was something we shared on Sundays. So today I watched the first race without her. Very depressing, especially with Jeff back in the mid 30's most of the race.
But when Jeff moved up and won in the last lap I couldn't help but smile. Especially as it was Jeff's #1 enemy, Tony Stewart, who helped him win. I could just see Stewart moving in to knock Jeff out (which he has done in the past) and Mom, watching the race, said "Oh no, you dirty dog (her favorite name for Stewart)". She swooped in and instead of wrecking Jeff she caused Stewart to give him the bump he needed for the win.
At least, that's how I like to think it happened today.

You've obviously never watched a NASCAR road race. Besides, Europeans no nothing about car racing. Its a proven fact. That's why they feel the need to come to the States to race in NASCAR or Indy.

No, you get the rejects, since there's more drivers than race spots here

Gordon's my wife's favorite too. He came out of nowhere! My guy Kahne got dropped to 16th but it was still an exciting finish. I guess I'll tip my hat to Gordon for Caroline's mom this time though.

Heheheheh.
I live twenty five minutes from the "Track to tough to tame", Darlington.
I've even been around the track in a car.
But I've never been a fan of nascar.
It's a sport that grew out of moonshining, the guys that ran the shine became some of the early drivers on the circuit. I have family connections to that.
But as to the sport itself, nope. I've never even watched a race.
First night I had my license, I put my car in a field and ruined a back tire.
Two weeks later I pegged out the speedometer on my car at 140 and it was still climging when I back off. I've done over 120mph late at night on a straightaway with the lights off. But, fortunately for me (or unfortunately, as some might see it) I satisfied my male ego early on that I could take it, and no longer feel the need for the adrenaline rush.
Nascar would be like having been in the superbowl, and then sitting in the stands to watch a high school game in a town I had never been in before and had no connection too.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!
Something pithy!
