about 9 years ago I was heavy into the whole thrill of the deal on ebay. I got Legion archives #1-7 for (I think it was) $107.50- shipping included. Some of them had never been unwrapped. I have no real purpose in telling this story. It's just a happy memory.
All you need is Love (and a whole big bucket of Money).

LAL, I got Vols. 1-9 on eBay, all within a very short period of time! It was fun! Sadly, eBayers may now only ever have 12 Volumes of LSH Archives to track down...

See, here's an eBay lot that would help me out a lot with my collection. Now, granted, it's more inclusive than most, but it's up to $43 (inc. s/h) with four hours to go and will probably close much higher. If the Archives would continue, I feel they'd be a bargain and be less of a hassle to get!

wow, you never make that much money with single issue lots in Germany... I offered some pretty attraktive packages and never got more than 10 Euros. On the other hand, most stuff I buy cost me not more than 5 Euros.
I guess the tiny comic book market on German ebay is just a buyers market, whereas the demand is much larger in the US...

It's going that high and there's no grading guarantee except that they're "intact" and "have no major creases, stains or rips."
Obviously, there's a demand here!

Yes there is a demand. Fans like me who lost their collections. LOL. What Archive covers up to around Superboy #195? Just curious so I know how many of these I need to find.

Well with the luck I'm having on E-Bay I might have to go with the archives. I can't believe I lost out on those old issues.

Well, that lot actually didn't go any higher, but it was still too much for me to blow in one pop. So, yeah, the lot was a bargain compared to an Archive in that you wouldn't have gotten 25 issues in one Archive. Then again, the quality might've been iffy in that lot. Kinda wish I'd put a bid in knowing what I know now. I would've finally had Earth War, plus a lot more. (I mean DAMN! How many times has there been a bidding frenzy I was on the losing side on in the last minute of an auction!?!?!)

How do you LOOSE a collection??? Must be devastating... I guess there are not that many US comic book collectors in Germany, so we are lucky - for example, I have got a lot of George Perez stuff (Sachs & Violens, Ultraforce, Marvel Fanfare, some of his Avengers) for cheap and I only started cruising ebay for comics this year. And I am not that touchy with the quality of the comics. Some of my Legion stuff is far below mint, but to me it was always most important to get the story, not a perfect copy (you can't be too sensitive about that over here: If they actually HAVE some Legion - you have to buy it, cause you don't know when the next dealer with a box of Legion comics will be passing by...)

Just went on Ebay and searched for every Superboy and the Legion issue from when Archive 12 ended and when my personal collection (when the title switched to just Legion of Super-Heroes) began. For this search I did not count Karate Kid issues.
From 224-258...NOT counting shipping...combining auctions if possible...the bill would run me $87.51. I would have maybe two "multiples" as a result of buying sets instead of single issues in a few places to save money.
Um. Ugh?

Off the top of my head:
These issues will feature the death of Chemical King, Wildfire taking office as LSH leader, and the first/only appearance of Sden!
Also the earliest stories by Levitz.
GASP-- AND!! S/LSH 231, one of my favorite stand-alone issues. This one is a getter, folks.

Best of all, with a Vol. 13...there's a better chance for a Volume 14! Would Earth War finally be squeezed at the ass end of that one? Or would something else squeeze it out like the wedding special or the JLA crossover? I'm so unfamiliar with the era, that I'm not sure where those two things fit in chronologically!
And what's S/LSH 231 about, Lash?

I'm thinking they'll have to save Earthwar for #15, and probably include Legion appearances in KK in #14 to flesh it out.

^ One of my first Legion issues, though I don't know how I got it since I was BORN in 1977. Maybe there was a reprint or I got some kind of back issue.

Yeah, come to think of it, the wedding special should go in there, shouldn't it?
I was mostly going by the fact that, if the next volume contains the same number of issues as this, it would be 234-243, and they'd need to increase the size to fit in the last bit of Earthwar. Just seems to me more likely to include extra stuff such as the KK issues and push the whole of Earth War to the next volume.

There aren't many specialty comic shops, and few of those carry back issues. The handful that do can carry a good selection up to 15 years old, which is where most of my collection came from. And some of the great people here on LW have helped me with that too (Thanks Cobie, Bevis, Vee and Lightning Lad!)
