Ok, so I was rummaging through the music store Saturday, and what should I find in the discount bin but the Best of Branigan CD. The price was right, and the mood was right, so home with me it went. I had forgotten how much I liked Laura! Her versions of How Am I Supposed To Live Without You and Power of Love are much better than Michael Bolton and Celene Dion's versions. And Gloria rocked! I love that song! I had it cranked while I was doing the dishes, and it was all I could do not to dance around the kitchen Too bad that her career didn't go even farther before her untimely death a few years ago. So much talent...

Gloria and Self Control are my favorite Brannigan songs. Anybody remember when she appeared (as herself) on an ep of the shortlived 80's TV series "Automan" ? (featuring Desi Arnez Jr. and a robotic guy who could transform into... a car... ) I believe she performed Gloria on it.

IIRC, Branigan also performed "Hot Night" on her Automan guest apperance, which got more prominently featured in the episode (I think it played 2 or 3 times in the episode, counting music played over the closing credits). AFIK, "Hot Night" only appeared on the Ghostbusters soundtrack, which was too bad because that's another great single of hers. (Okay, actually, it's a pretty lame song, but the melody totally fits her vocals.)
Another movie sountrack song from Branigan I remember is "Imagination" from the Flashdance soundtrack. Also, I'm told she did the vocals for Fire Inc, the band from Streets of Fire (that certainly sounds like her voice on "Tonight is what it feels to be young")
Yep, I was a huuuuuge Laura Branigan fan in the 80s. Gloria was my favorite song for years.

Streets of Fire was so cool....
