Cobie, may I suggest a switch to the 'mazing Mets? The blue collar baseball team, they don't have half the drama Steinbrenner brings.

I pretty much did the same thing UJ. I would like the Rockies to beat AZ, but the Dbacks are a solid team.


(Side note- the Denver games are sold out- even the possible 5th game, but Arizona still has 10,000 left for tomorrow's game. WTF you Phonecians?)

Okay- so the Rockies are proving me wrong about Arizona. Could we see a 4 game sweep for the NLCS?

Rockies vs. Red Sox? Now that a serious David vs. Goliath!

Let's hear it for the underdogs! Rockies swept Arizona, and Cleveland has taken a lead on Boston 3-1.

Who saw Cleveland making it to the World Series?

I believe I had the Indians going to the World Series in my first post... but I also had the Cubs beating them too.

As any true-blue New York sports fan, I also support the Mets 95% of the time (when they're not playing the Yanks). Most Yankees fans are like that. Its the Boston and Mets fans that hate the Yanks (we don't give Boston a second notice and usually support the Mets). Still...both the Mets and Boston are almost just as bad as the Yankees in their financial spending, so using that as something to critique doesn't work well. The Mets meltdown this season helped increase my depression in regards to Baseball.

...but...

Alas! I'm a true baseball and sports fan and my love of the game itself trumps my annoyance at my favorite team. I have to admit that I'm swept up in this Rockies mania. 20 out of 21 games? Wha-what? Incredible! I'm definately supporting them to win the entire thing!

And yeah, cleveland is a shocker. Especially (for me) is Kenny Lofton, whose been playing in the majors since I was like 7 years old, and this is probably the first time where I've actually noticed and cared about what he's doing.

One criticism: TBS has dropped the ball in its presentation of the game. The announcers are garbage. The coverage is crap. And the times are atrocious. Honestly, ending a game on the east coast at 2 or 3 in the morning? Are you trying to get extremely low ratings? Some may say it's good for the west coast then if the games are ending at 11:00 PM, but c'mon...and you expect to appeal to the entire national fanbase? Its like the opposite of the 'west coast lag'...how can teams on the west coast ever hope to have *any* support across the entire nation if we can't see them play?

With all due respect Cobie- it's my team that's playing. The games should be played when we can watch the local boys spank the competition- be they Philly, Arizona, or Cleveland.

That said- the announcers are baaaaaaad.


If you were a true fan of the Mets, the collapse wouldn't be any more unsettling than say, exhaling.

Whow, I didn't expect Cleveland to beat the Yanks and Sox! Good for them. I am rooting for them against the Sox. But it isn't over yet.

I am happy for the Rockies as well. I like watching underdogs win. (i also like to watch favorites play like favorites though)

Defending Steinbrenner one more time! Sure he brings drama! And that drama is part of the reason thanks Yanks are estimated at 1.2 billion. If it wasn't for George the Yankees would be much like other big city teams. The Cubs, the Sox, etc. I read somewhere that the Yanks bring more money to baseball than the rest of the other times combined. I believe it.

Seriously though if the Yankees were more low key they wouldn't have 6 championships under Steinbrenner. They would have half of that or less.

i checked yesterday, and the Rockies have only lost, IIRC, 8 times since the end of August. 8 TIMES.

that doesn't sound like an underdog team anymore. i admit, i was all for speculating when the Colorado Luckies would fall apart, but they seriously look like they're going to win it all.

and man, you gotta love Cleveland. Boston is no longer the underdog team folks, they are just as big and bad as the Yanks, and probably even bigger and badder. they dominated their division this year, they have just as much talent (if not more) than the Pinstripes and for us to still hold on to the fact that they are the "team that once couldn't win it all" is pointless now. the Sox are legit, and have been since they came back to win four in a row agains New York BEFORE getting to the World Series.

i'm pulling for the Tribe all the way, but man, Colorado is scary. scary and purple.

And I still say 'bah' to the west coast games being so late on EST I'm trying to drum up my support of the Rockies in honor of your part of the country after all!

By the way, what is the deal with the funky ALCS playoff schedule? Yesterday was an off day, and so is tomorrow? I realize tomorrow is a travel day, but why was there no game on Wednesday? Too many bugs? Anybody know what is going on here?

Oh, and I am so in agreement with the way-too-late national league games. I realize they are catering to the west cost with those teams, but doen't WTBS realize I have kids and can't stay up that late? I wonder how their ratings are...

The powers-that-be added an extra off-day to the schedule in case there was a rainout that had to be accommodated. Which is ridiculous, of course; there are already too many off-days in the postseason. It'd be much better if there weren't even any travel days. The teams don't need them to get from one place to another, and it'd let the teams take advantage of the depth that must have been one of the things that got them to the postseason in the first place.

Go Indians! Unfortunately, I'm working tonight so I won't know if the Indians are in or not until I come home. However, I've enjoyed the heck out of watching them play. I hope they win the Series, but if they get there the Rockies look like they'll be hard to beat. Still, the Indians have some luck too (can we say midges).

As for the scheduling thing, yeah, between work I haven't been able to watch all the games, and my dad usually has to go to bed early (he has a hellacious commute) so I usually write the final score on the fridge for him, and that's for the AL games.

So I miss seeing the NL games, but at the same time, I feel it's more important that the home town fans get to see their team play. That said, it certainly hurts the ratings.

Oh, and does this mean that some of the World Series games won't be starting till 10pm EST? cause that really stinks for Indain (hopefully) fans. I mean, either way they are going to mess up one team's fan base.

anyways, here's hoping the Indians can finish it in Cleveland, the way things have been going with me their winning is the only thing that keeps me from being depressed.

I think the Denver games are starting at 6:30pm, so you East Coasters can get some game time. The two games in AZ did.

The ratings this year are some of the worst in baseball history becaue of the schedule and TBS' rotten coverage. Maybe the worst ever according to some sources.

I see your point Ceej but it sucks for us east coasters and gives credence to the theory that the MLB itself truly hopes for east coast victories in the world series.

Cobie, if you check the ratings, the World Series has been losing viewers for the last decade. That's why FOX shipped it off to TBS; they weren't getting the ratings they wanted, and it would interrupt their prime-time schedule.


Come to Denver- we'll watch the Series, drink some Coors, and enjoy the Rocky Mountain High

C: Coors Field is basically a newer design of Oriole Park at Camden Yards and imitation is the best type of flattery...

Man, is Josh Beckett great or what? The Sox may still lose the series 4-2, but it won't be because their ace failed them! I'm sure if rest wasn't a factor, Francona wishes he could just have Beckett and Papelbon throw all their pitches.

I know my AL Cy Young vote would definitely go to Beckett after seeing his three starts this postseason. Yeah, I know postseason isn't supposed to count, but I don't see how anyone would vote for Sebathia over Beckett after their last two head-to-heads! (When does everyone cast their votes for all the awards, anyway? I know they aren't announced until well after the World Series is over...)

I agree completely. He's nothing short of spectacular. My boss even wonders if it came down to it in game seven if they'd put Beckett in for a few innings. Maybe not that likely, but it'd sure be a legend building experience.

Beckett not only has the talent, he's great in the clutch.

The voting is done before the postseason starts, for exactly this reason.

Man, they sure take their sweet time releasing the results then!

I think everyone will emit a collective groan if Sebathia wins, though.
