I like "Tubthumping" almost as much as I love saying Chumbawamba. If Chumbawamba were two words, I'd put it on the "Inane Word Pairs That Are Just Fun to Say" thread.
Down here in Georgia, even UGA fans now groan when they hear "Who Let the Dawgs Out."

GASP! There are early N'Sync songs from the first album ('Tearin' Up My Heart' and 'I Drive Myself Crazy' mainly) that I j'adore so I refute Cobie's claim!
Plus, as is well-known, Justin Timberlake is from Memphis' backyard Millington and as far as any of you know I dated him.
Teeds' dislike of 'What's Up' just goes to show that debutantes have NO idea of the angst felt in the 90s when we had lived "25 years of our life and still... trying to get up that great big hill of hope..."

Rolling Stone likes to consider itself hip by dissing whatever has extreme mainstream popularity. "My Heart Will Go On," one of the worst songs of the decade? Please.
My vote? Anything by Hootie and the Blowfish. That horrible, droning sound makes me flip the dial as soon as the first note plays. Also the song "One Headlight" which was played constantly just because the singer's father is Bob Dylan.

I dunno, Lash. I don't think any song can survive once it's been compared negatively with "We Built This City". Going to have to change my mind about that one. On the upside, I now have a reason to look forward to Justin Timberlake's autobiography!

Okay, I admit it! I had a crush on Hootie! (just Hootie, NOT the Blowfish) And if he hadn't ruined everything by doing that Burger King commercial, I'd be defending his hot hootiness tooth and nail right now!
But, since he did dress up like a cowboy and tried conning me into buying bags of tender crisp bacon cheddar ranch burgers, whatever.

I liked Hootie & the Blowfish well enough. But then again, I also had quite the "thing" for... this performer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx64_N4AA04

Stories of redemption: Lost all respect for the Crash Test Dummies when they changed the lyrics to MMM MMM MMM on the Grammys to avoid offending the religious folks. Pick another song, maybe? Let the producers bleep it. Don't change your own song. Of course, they are redeemed in my mind every time I hear this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihUIPlLw2ZE Yeah, Darius totally messed up with the Burger King commercial. He has since redeemed himself by performing and recording with the amazing Nanci Griffith. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FErZ...p;playnext=1&list=PL2BC03C6C2BA12A65

Just seeing this thread now. My opinions of the list -
1. Aqua "Barbie Girl" Can't argue with this one. I hate this song and everything else Aqua ever did. I cannot stand Euro-pop though so the song was never for me.
2. Los Del Rio, "Macarena" I really don't like this song but I don't absolutely hate it like most do. It's annoying but not offensively bad like some of the others on this list.
3. Billy Ray Cyrus, "Achy Breaky Heart" Disliked this song at the time and dislike it even more now knowing it spawned that whole hideous family on us.
4. Vanilla Ice, "Ice Ice Baby" Umm this was one of my favourite songs of the 90s! I've done the dance dozens of times. It's still a great song! It's only on this list because of the joke that Vanilla Ice later became IMO.
5. Chumbawamba, "Tubthumping" I really liked this song the first time I heard it. But then I heard it again... and again... and again... Got very sick of it. It's not a bad song though. It does scream 'one-hit wonder' though. I mean, you wouldn't want to hear many more songs like it would you?
6. Hanson, "MMMBop" This is another pure, fun pop song and Hanson were incredibly talented to come up with it at that age IMO. I liked it a lot then and still do now.
7. Celine Dion, "My Heart Will Go On" Celine's never been my thing so I won't argue with this one's inclusion.
8. Baha Men, "Who Let The Dogs Out?" Yeah. This is a pretty ugly song. Part of me hates that I kinda like it though. I think it's a repulsion/attraction thing 'cause I like reggae/calypso music in general and this obviously has some elements of that. The weird thing about this song though is that I was travelling the world when it came out and every country I visited played it at a different tempo and speed - so it seemed like a different song every time I heard it. Some versions were definitely better than others.
9. Right Said Fred, "I'm Too Sexy" Another fun pop song. Obviously written to be a bit of a catchy, tongue-in-cheek type fun. Not every song has to be bloody "Blowin' in the Wind" Rolling Stone Magazine!
10. 4 Non Blondes, "What's Up?" One of my favourite songs of the 90s and I still love it. I had no idea this song was even disliked by anyone. I don't get what's wrong with it at all?I can think of about a million songs worse than it from that era.
So IMO that's about 5/10 that shouldn't be on that list. I notice that the list is almost completely pop songs too and yet none of the god-awful rock songs of that era got a mention. Way to show your bias Rolling Stone Magazine!

Agree on Breakfast at Tiffany's!
But not so much on Spin Doctors. They had energy, uniqueness and could laugh at themselves.

I like the Spin Doctors quite a bit! I'll always remember, though, being in a record store my Freshman year of college, and this guy was talking about the Spin Doctors and how they were making "real music" unlike most of the crap that was being produced at the time, and they were a band that would stand the test of time and be around forever like the Rolling Stones!
Er... I guess they're technically still out there, but, man, I can't tell you what they've been doing since '95 or so!

I thought about suggesting Oasis, but then I realized that their flaccid pseudo-Beatles-without-the-charm style at least deserves credit for having picked a great band of which to be a poor imitation!
