That's what I call that thing you do on the weight machine where you move your arms inward from an outward position. It may really be called something else.

Unfortunately our weight-machine thingie was broken when I went to the weight room last night. Parts are on order.

I did do 60 situps! Not bad considering I can't remember the last time I did situps!

Crap, now Lash is trying to entice me back to the gym! I went twice over the weekend, but I really need to get back on a regular schedule again. What's really funny is that I've found that I sometimes lose weight while I'm away from the gym for periods of around a month. But that could be because muscle is heavier than fat.

Jillikers, I haven't checked into this thread in awhile! With my new job, I'm finding it hard to maintain a work out schedule--and I was doing so good over the summer. I trimmed my waste down nicely, but I have to keep it going and stay fit...

I haven't been doing any exercise lately, but I was just recently noticing that I haven't seemed to put back on that un-sightly gut I worked so hard to get rid of! So, feeling all proud and pleased with myself, I went ahead and spent all of this past week just eating the worst food imaginable. As the days of this binge progressed, I found myself needing MORE per meal. The result: I'm sitting here now feeling like a Halloween pumpkin! It's just amazing to me how easily the unhealthy lifestyle can just worm it's way in and devastate so quickly. This weekend, we have stuff going on constantly, so I don't expect any sudden changes in healthful living to begin, but I'll tell you what...Monday is the start of a new week and a new month and I NEED it to be the start of a new regimine in my life. I know I'm capable, I just need to dive in. I hope on Monday I'll be back here posting to let you know what kind of workout I just did!

Dean, it often takes setting a date to begin. For me, I had always worked out and been in good shape, but let myself go during the last half of my 40's. I think it had to do with being unhappy living in San Francisco, family problems, and not enjoying my work.

Then last year, I turned 50, my dad died, and I took a good look at myself and didn't like what I saw (physically and emotionally). I decided right then that I wasn't going to spend my 50's feeling sorry for myself. I realized that the job wasn't a problem anymore (as I had been in a new one for 3 years and it was going quite well), the family problems really weren't all that important in light of losing our dad, and well as far as S.F. goes, I realized I'm comfortable and that's not so bad.

So I decided that on January 1, I was going to turn myself around physically. I stopped drinking on Dec. 30, 2003 and started working out and watching what I ate on Jan. 1, 2004. Setting those dates worked for me. I've stuck to the plan and am really pleased with the results. I don't think I could have done it though, without addressing some of the emotional reasons for having let myself go. Not everything is perfect by any means, but I'm happy with myself and proud of how I've stuck with it. The self-esteem generated is self-perpetuating and keeps me going.

Well, I'm sitting here at the computer, after running several errands and a visit to the dentist. All I've eaten today so far is a banana. I want to go to the gym right now.

I just watched "Super Size Me" on video, and although I wasn't surprised to learn that eating only McDonald's 3 times a day for a month is bad for you, I do find the experience helpful as a reminder that junk food like that just does no good. Ironically, my kids currently own pounds and pounds of candy after Trick or Treating.

I'm in the mood for some lovely fresh spinach.

I actually went to the gym shortly after that last post! I took it fairly easy on myself because I didn't want to just jump in and try doing what I used to do. I know that I'd end up in big pain. So, I did a mild workout with plenty of stretching and ab work. Also, my current approach to food is to be sure and eat those bananas and satsuma oranges and apples along with reasonable amounts of other, regular meals.

I worked out yesterday, which felt really good, but a couple of friends and I went out to a bar and drank a bunch of wine and ate NACHOS~ Ay carumba, man! So today I'm feeling pretty sluggish. The 'chos were good, though.

I was supposed to go to a circuit training class on Tuesday, but I totally skipped it! So, my plan was to go to the one on Thursday, but I needed to sign up 24 hours before, but it's too late now. I'm considering just showing up and seeing what they do. I hope I do. I'll let you guys know what happens....
