I'm doing good, but lately I've been hemming and hawing on eating healthy. Damn Harpoon IPA and cheesburger clubs at the diner with fries ! I still feel like I'm getting thinner now, so I just have to be patient.

I was worried last Sunday as a friend took me to lunch at a very nice restaurant in Napa. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I ordered something that made me gag and didn't eat much. (I was being recklessly adventurous and ordered kidneys in a peppercorn cream sauce). I lost 2 lbs. that day. Needless to say, I don't recommend this as a diet aid.
I ramped up my workouts for the next few weeks. The big test comes at the end of September. My mom is coming to visit for a week. She's like the energizer bunny - go, go, go. She loves to go out to eat, lunch and dinner every day. Usually after her visits, I never want to see another restaurant again for as long as I live. I hope I can control it with non-eating activities this time. Wish me luck.

All summer, I've had so much going on, that it seems like I forget to plan meals, which naturally means I end up getting something convenient, like fast food or deli food, which is really bad. Plus, I've been going out with friends a lot lately, which means more drinks and appetizers than I really need. I can't even think about the stuff we packed when we recently went camping. I'm convinced that I should go on the "act like a kid" routine. I must admit that my wife and I are both strict and lenient with our children's food. Overall, we are careful that they are getting good nuitrition with plenty of fruit and veggies and so on, but we also allow that junk food to come in. The thing is, my kids are very active and even athletic, so we know they're healthy and fit. Their bodies can take a little junk. Maybe I should try expending as much energy as they do in a day. See how much weight flies off then.
I'm looking forward to proudly posting how great I feel after a good sweat at the gym, again. I like those posts better than ones like this.
Semi, it sounds so fun to go out to eat with your mom! I think you should go to a different place each time and be super fussy about how lean you want your food prepared!

I've got a 5-day mini-vacation as of now, which could be a dieting disaster.
NOT gonna let it be.
I now vow to be down to 180 by next Tuesday morning!!
Wish me luck-- gonna need it!!!

That's AMAZING, Semi! Aren't you tall, too-- like 6 feet or taller? You know what they say about long, lean & lanky guys...!
Today I had more chicken noodle soup, but I also had a small bowl of raisin bran (for the fiber) and I allowed myself a little ice cream too. Probably will have gained that pound back, but I hope not...

I just got a hold of Legion Archives 3, and this particular panel amused me:
Bouncing Boy: "Look... since I'm slender, girls don't laugh at me anymore... they like me! Meet my girl friend, Iresa..."
Superboy, after taking a look at Iresa: "Oh, no... I... er... mean, she's wonderful, Bouncing Boy!"
That Superboy, the epitome of tact.

I blew mine last night. I couldn't bear the thought of going out again so I stayed home and ate Taco Bell and ice cream!

Another amusing panel from Legion Archives 3:
Now we know how Legionnaires lose weight -- Ayla is using "the cellular trim ray treatment to get rid of unwanted extra pounds quickly" when Saturn Girl calls her for an important meeting.
Well, her butt does look a bit more padded than usual in that panel... but that's what happens when you overindulge in Ma Ranzz's homemade pluberry tarts.
(Then again, what do you expect from a planet where it's practically a crime to refuse second helpings...?)

*sigh* The cellular-trim ray was groovy! Too bad Tenzil had to eat it after what it did to Bouncing Boy!

Cellular trim rays. Must be nice!
Yes, Wednesday is my new day of fitness. The kids go back to school that day. I'm sad about that. I actually like having them at home. However, for me, this is late Monday night. Yeah, early Tuesday morning. I just had Jack in the Box Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger with fries and a Dr. Pepper. I'm a nut. I should so NOT be eating like this.
Oh damm well...

It was very warm in San Francisco all weekend (90-100). Wouldn't you know it, this was the weekend I chose to paint the kitchen and main bathroom. Even with a fan going, the house was like a furnace. Yesterday I went through 8 sodas (fortunately, they were diet sodas). I actually sweated off 3 pounds. Unfortunately, the "khaki" color I chose for the bathroom ended up looking like "toxic radioactive pond scum." I have to do the whole thing over.

Actually, I've been spottily painting the outside of my house all summer. This past weekend, I really focused on powering through it.
Okay, painting, especially while on a ladder, is a GREAT workout! I've used muscles that I know I haven't used in a long time. One coat of paint is almost done, then I get to go around the whole house again for the second coat. At least the second coat is always easier. Semi, luckily, I like the color. It's called Dark Night (it's dark blue and we have white trim and windows). My kids and I have dubbed the color Dark Knight, because we are all comic fans.
I didn't go to the gym yesterday (Wednesday) but I'm going today!

How's it going, folks? I did get down to 172 the other day, but then I was bad. I'm now at 174.5. You know, I enjoyed being bad.

I weighed 185 today AGAIN. Seem stuck there; maybe time to switch battleplans? I mean, I look alright at 185 and can wear *most* of my wardrobe, but there's still those tightish little club shirts I want to get back into...
And even though I didn't reach my stated goal of 180 while on vacation, the more important thing to me is that I didn't GAIN while on vacation...

Jillikers, after rereading this entire thread, I feel so much better about being at 185.
Back in January when I started this thread, I had reached 204 pounds! *shudder!!*
Then I dieted down into the 190s, but quickly ballooned back up to 199!
That was in March; I then went on the low-carb and dieted all the way down to 183 (my lowest recorded weight yet on this thread).
Of course, after that, I vanished for a while from this thread (meaning I had goten complacent and started eating whatever I wanted, no doubt) and when next I showed up I was BACK in the 190s!
So in August, I started this "eat less" thing, and although the weight has come off VERY VERY slowly, it has come off and, more importantly, has stayed off. One month ago I weighed 186, today I weighed 185. That's with virtually no effort on my part. Maintaining is important, something I haven't done all this year until now it seems.
Yeah, 185 doesn't sound so bad.

I went to the gym last Friday, and the Friday before that. Lash, for me, the difference is definitely how much I work out. When I spend that time in the gym, the last thing I want to do is eat a bunch of junk and wreck all my hard work! I'll be hitting the gym more regularly now. The routine of it is pretty comforting actually.

Good for you Lash and Dean. I think the eating less is the best way to go. It's what works for me, although I have to avoid starches and sugars. If I have bread or rice, I see a pound or two of weight gain the next day.
