Does anyone use protein powder to make a shake after a workout? What's your favorite brand? Right now I'm using Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Protein, double chocolate flavor. I add it to water and non-fat yogurt. It's surprisingly good.

I used to drink MetRx daily when I was exercising regularly. The chocolate isn't too bad, and the vanilla is palatable if you add some banana slices. However, if you don't add bananas and you make the vanilla with water instead of milk, it just tastes like bad yellow cake batter...

By the way, I've been having nothing but wheat bread, peanut butter, fruit, and water for the last three days, and I've lost four pounds! (I've also been exercising a bit.) I doubt I can keep up either this diet or this rate of weight loss for much longer, though...

Right now, I'm back to the weight range I maintained for the last five years, before I packed it on when I returned to work. So my REAL weight loss starts now. The 30+ lb.s I just lost were sucker pounds. And congrats to your Mom, Des! If you get your looks from her, I'm betting she's a hottie!

P.S.-- When do you guys usually weigh yourselves? 1st thing in the morning? After a good dump?

I weigh myself in the morning, after my work-out and after my shower. In the morning is when you will weigh the least during the day. So you might as well give yourself every advantage to feel good about yourself for the rest of the day.

Agreed... but I love sneaking on the scale in the evening and realizing that even though I've eaten everything I'm going to for that day, I'm -still- lighter than the previous weigh-in...!

Make sure you are getting sufficient protein, good carbs (from vegetables) and fat (peanut butter is a good source if you don't overdo it). The diet you are following is high in fat and starches, but low in protein. Try cutting out the bread and adding chicken breast or turkey or lean beef.

Pov, that sounds great!
Personally, I never weigh myself anymore. I've gone through periods of a large amount of muscle mass, then to fat, then to slimming down, and a lot of the time, my weight doesn't reflect my body-size. Right now, I'm just concentrating on how slim my stomach is, and how loose my clothes fit.

I'm trying to have more salads that don't have heavy, creamy dressing and that do have chicken breast or lean ham...

That's either really messy, or a helluva high-tech toilet...!

Tonight I'm going to slice up a left over pork chop and toss it with baby greens, arugula, tomato, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

I love Monte Cristo sandwiches, but could they be any more unhealthful for you? Ham, turkey, and cheese between two pieces of French toast, and then fry the whole thing. (And dip it in maple syrup if you've got it!) I think that just reversed my diet efforts for the past week... but dang, was it good...!

Today's Weight: 189 lbs.
After stagnating in the 190-191 range for a week or so, I've finally broken the 180s!

Congratulations Eryk. It's always exciting to drop down into the next 10's. What's your goal?

Congrats EDE! And Stu, Monte Cristo's are *very* good. Now you've got me thinking of them...

165-170 is ambitious, but a realistic goal. Since January 1, I've gone from 213 to 174 (where I've remained for the last 2 or 3 months) and would like to get to about 168-170. I'm 6'1" with a medium frame so at that weight, my body-fat % would probably be about 10%. What I need is a kick-start for the last 8 lbs. (When I finished high-school, I weighed 145 lbs. - that was too skinny. Of course there's no photographic evidence of that, since cameras had yet to be invented. )

I fell off the wagon. Luckily, a vat of doughnuts was there to cushion my fall.

Still lingering in the mid-180s. Need to eat less.
Also, I was strictly drinking diet soads and tea-- 0 calories-- but then I tried Pepsi Edge and quite liked it, but it's still 70 calories a pop there, and I need to cut that back out.
