I don't think many of us are playing on a regular basis, but I still am. I tend to bounce around on servers, but I have been playing Andrew a fair amount lately. He hit 48 this weekend.

What level is Doc Nimbus at these days? At some point I'd like to get whoever still has an active account together to do an Imperious, Statesman, or Lady Grey TF.

Hi, Doc!
I'm mostly playing on Freedom these days, though I still have my guys on Virtue and Princess P on Infinity, though I haven't played her in ages.
Welcome back!

Doc Nimbus is at 37, a bar or two away from 38. I had him moved to the Justice server where I do most of my playing with a sg called Z-Force. I do still have one or two characters on Virtue, but they're lowbies.

I finally, having had the game account open since beta, closed my account. I hadn't logged on for like six months, so I just couldn't justify spending money to keep it open.
I'm all verklempt now.
So now I have money to waste on the gym membership I also haven't used for six months. Grr...
I'm kinda looking forward to the Champions Online and / or DC Universe MMOs. It should be interesting to see what a 'second generation' superhero MMO looks like, after seeing the various quantum leaps from EQ to DAoC to EQ2 to WoW to AoC to WAR.

Andrew Nolan just hit 50! I'm kind of looking forward to the new games too. Though how different Champions will be compared to COH is debatable as Cryptic is the one who came up with both of them.

Congrats!
I'm curious about Champions. From what I've seen of DC Online, I'm not terribly impressed beyond the coolness factor of playing in the DC Universe. But it's still really, really early in development.

Gratz Blue!
I'll probably give DC Online a try, but i'll pass on Champions. I just don't like the art style they're using.

Okay, so tell me about this...I honestly cant see reading 123 pages to find out.
Do you play in groups, do you play singlysp?), do you design your own character, can you use characters like T-wolf?
Thanks for the info ahead of time.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

Thanks for the info ahead of time. You can play singly or in groups (groups are generally more fun). You definitely design your own character, and this game has the most costume element options of any game I've ever seen (although it has a more limited facial / body type palette than some, like Star Wars Galaxies). While you *can* create duplicates of some pre-existing characters (the Hulk is pretty easy, and I've seen incredibly accurate Nightcrawlers), it's discouraged, as is using exact sames of prominent characters. Many 'signature' costume elements are left out for just that reason. There may be three dozen chest emblem options, but none of them are a bat, or big 'S' in a shield, for instance. But if you wanted to make an obviously 'inspired by' character, like a Legion-looking Earth-Controller named Quake Kid, that's all good. The game has no 'future' setting, although you can go on various missions into the past, or alternate worlds, including one that is a slice of ancient rome. Before playing the game in beta, I had grand visions of playing all sorts of characters I'd played in Villains & Vigilantes or GURPS Supers or Aberrant or whatever, only to discover that this really is it's own world, and it's *much* more fun to incorporate a character into the lore of the world (uses a magic blade stolen from the Circle of Thorns, experimented upon by the Vahzilok, gained her mental powers after being captured by the Lost, etc.).

Rick, There are different type of characters. Some solo extremely well and some are really most effective on teams. If you plan on soloing to start with, I'd recommend making a Scrapper, Brute, or Blaster as those toons solo well. (Though I've always found life gets tough for my blasters after the mid 30s when it seems like everyone and his kid sister can mez or stun me.)

Thanks, what do you mean by mid 30's? Is that a character age thing?

30th level or so. The game goes in levels, from 1 to 50. At 1st level, you have only two powers, usually one attack and one defense / utility power. At 2nd, you'll get a 2nd attack, and then about every other level you'll get another power, mixing and matching between your two 'trees.' You can choose trees that aren't connected, but there is almost always an option to take related trees. If you play a Blaster (heavy firepower, glass cannon, doesn't take a punch well...) you can choose Electrical attacks, Fire attacks, Ice attacks, etc. and then for your secondary powerset take electrical, fire, ice, etc. powers that can trap foes in a ring of fire (ice, lightning) or stun them or whatever. The Human Torch or Lightning Lad would be a Blaster. A Tanker (heaviest defensive powers) starts with a defensive set (Ice Armor, Fire Shield, Rock Armor, etc.) and then an offensive set (Ice Fists, Fiery Assault, Rock Hammer, etc.). Blok or the Thing would be a Tanker. They are really good at 'taunting' or drawing enemy fire onto themselves (and they can take it!) instead of allowing their less-well-defended allies to get hit and possibly killed. (Which loosely represents the comic-book trope where characters like Blok and Light Lass will fly at some thugs, and all of the idiots shoot at Blok, for some reason!) A Scrapper reverses the two, having the attack power as primary and the defensive powers as secondary (meaning that their defensive powers are exactly the same in name as the Tanker powers, but only 75% as effective. The reverse is true in that Tankers attacks are only 75% as effective as the Scrappers). Wolverine or Timber Wolf would be a 'Scrapper.' Scrappers, in addition to doing more damage, also can get Critical Hits, and do even *more* damage. Defenders have a primary healing / buffing set (buffs are powers that enhance their teammates). Some have Empathy (healing), Force Fields, Dark Miasma (a set that protects the team by blinding and 'debuffing' the enemy), Storm Control (another that debuffs the enemy), Radiation (heals and 'buffs' allies), etc. Their secondary power is the same as the Blasters primary attack power (and they have Dark Blasts, Radiation Blasts, Electrical Blasts, etc. to match some of their primaries for a unified theme), and, as with the Tanker / Scrapper thing, their blasts are 75% as effective as a Blasters, since it's their secondary power. There aren't a whole lot of 'Defender' type archetypes in comics, but Brainiac 5 could (loosely) be considered one, as could Raven or Kid Quantum or the Invisible Girl (she's a good example of one, actually). Controllers have 'crowd control' powers that stun, mesmerize / put to sleep, root in place, paralyze or knock foes around to keep them off-balance / unable to fight back effectively. Polar Boy would be a classic Controller (and Ice Control is one of the options), freezing peoples hands, or their feet to the floor, or covering the floor with ice so that they slip-slide away. Other controller primaries include Fire, Illusion, Earth, Gravity, etc. Most Controller primaries create 'pets,' temporary monsters of that element that fight on their side (fire imps, jack frost, earth golems, etc.). The Controller secondary power is the same as the Defenders primary, a healing / buffing set (at 75% effectiveness over that of a Defender). complete list here Villains have five different archetypes; Dominator (a controller / scrapper mix), Brutes (a tweaked Scrapper), Stalkers (another type of Scrapper that relies on Stealth and critical sneak attacks), Corrupters (reversed Defender, with assault primary and heal/buff secondary) and Masterminds (unique primary summons tons of pets, mastermind hides behind his many deadly minions, using his secondary to buff/heal them).

rickshaw: I've posted a bunch of pics of some of my CoH characters over in Bits in the thread Vee\'s Legion . If you look through the first few pages you can see that you can actually come pretty close to duplicating the actual costumes of many of the Legionnaires. It seems the pics on the later pages aren't appearing so don't waste your time looking past page 4 (I think) which is too bad because I have a later version of Brin which I think is much better. In any case, here's what my first attempt at Timber Wolf looked like.

Hey, guys. We're trying to get enough of us together to run a TF on Virtue. Right now, we're shooting for the Imperious TF. Minimum level for the TF Is 35, though anyone under 45 would have to be sidekicked into it. Thing is, the zone where the ITF takes place requires that it be unlocked, and that can take more than an hour to do .... So... anyone who'd like to possibly wind up with a set of Roman Armor on Virtue who's got a toon over 35 needs to unlock the zone. I've done it many times on my toons, and I know that Vee's been through it at least twice, so we'd be glad to give anyone who needs it a hand.

Hey, guys.
Just a reminder for those who'd like to do the Imeprious Task Force with the Virtue Legion-- and who wouldn't want to dress up like a gladiator, Timmy?-- you do need to do the Midnight Club Arc to get access to the zone.
I'm willing to help anyone who needs it get access there, and I'm sure Vee would do so as well.

nope...no go for me...all my highest level characters are on infinity, and are villians
I dunno, for the most part the villian storyarcs I find much more interesting. In addition some of the power combos are devestating (Tar Pit + Rain of Fire!!!)
