Polar Boy -- never took a stand and had to struggle to be central to any situation

Kid Quantum. Her leadership was a plot device by the writers to put one of their favourites in a prime position, then they seemed to forget about her previous personality.

I have to agree wtih Andy, Polar Boy did horribly as leader, espacially considering how badly he wanted the postion.

I concur that Polar Boy had to be the worst.

The only other person I'd suggest would be Karate Kid, who didn't do anything wrong as leader, but I didn't really see why he was put in that position. Outside of being Shooter's favorite, of course.

Some of the people who would have been great leaders we didn't really get to see enough in that capacity in my opinion: Sensor Girl preboot and Invisible Kid & Violet postboot.

I'd go with Polar Boy hands down. I do agree that Kid Q2 loses points for not wanting the position and then wanting to give it up before the end of her term.

Wasn't Polar Boy also shown in TMK as being the team leader when the Legion fell apart and disbanded? If so, then I'd say that definitely puts him over the top in this contest.

Wasn't it during Violet's run as leader that Leviathan died and the team all got (watch me play fast and loose with the English language here!) Emerald Eye-ified... BY HER! Not to mention getting half the team marooned in the 20th Century and herself lost in space.

That's gotta dock a few points from her leadership rating!

I keep thinking that was Sun Boy. But given how his term (if that's what it was) had such little depiction to begin with, I have to go with Polar Boy.

Sun Boy. Why? Two words: Legion disbanded.

Worst leadership term, actually appearing in the book: Gotta go with Polar Boy. Loo-ser.

According to the Mayfair sourcebook written by the Bierbaums, Sun Boy was leader for about two months before resigning and handing the job to Polar Boy, who was the leader when the LSH disbanded.

I don't think Kid Quantum was the worst leader but she was definitely the least interesting to read about.

I rather liked it when Vi became leader. It was nice moment for character who had been developing confidence and assertiveness over the course of the first two years of the reboot. Then Emerald Violet struck and Vi has been unreadable ever since. Who needs other writers wreck your characters and storylines when you can dump all over your own?

And I agree. Polar Boy sucked.

That clinches it for me. Polar Boy blows.

Just finished re-reading the Levitz run, so yeah, Polar Boy was probably the worst. He wanted leadership so bad, but just didn't know what to do with it when he got it.
He still idolized everyone and was constantly asking what everybody else would do in any given situation. He never trusted his own judgement, so he was never a very strong leader.
But he did try.

I'll go with postboot Violet.

Brek shouldn't be the scapegoat for the Legion falling apart. The Dominator-controlled Earthgov was out to get them.

But I will admit he does better with smaller groups, like the Subs and Heroes of Tartarus. Let's face it; if he could organize Policy Pam, Echo-Chamber Chet, Spaceopoly Lad, Stiletta and Styx into a force to reckon with, he has to have SOME leadership talent! laugh

I think Saturn Girl was an awful leader during the Legion Lost series it was a great read but she made some woeful descisions. Also her judgement was pretty flawed when in the 20th centry but she wasn't in charge then.

You're not the least bit biased, are you, PolarBoy? smile

Actually, I agree with you 100%. If the Legion were a military operation, Saturn Girl might have been court-martialed and dishonorably discharged from service. Maybe her intentions were good, but her judgement was wildly unsound and her actions downright immoral. The only decent thing she did in 'Lost' was resign as leader.

I'm still going with Polar Boy for worst leader preboot. Regardless of what happened with EarthGov & the Dominators, Cos, Imra or any of the other stronger (character-wise) Legionnaires would have gotten to the bottom of it and exposed the Dominion control. While he might be good at recognizing talent in unlikely places (i.e the Subs), that doesn't mean he is a good leader. It took Jacques to turn the Subs into a force to be reconned with.
For Post-boot, I think most agree that Emerald Violet was the worst. Not only was it the end of decent stories until DnA, but what she did to the team was just horrid. Her actions lead to half the team being stranded 10 centuries in the past, she was responsable for the death of a teammate, and her actions also helped Mordru consolidate power.
