FYI, Brooke's pre-Idol indie CD has not been as right-away catchy for me as her post-Idol HH&H was. Her progression and growth as a songwriter is quite evident.

Least to most favorite...
7. Tim. Really pitchy. Didn't like it at all. 6. Siobahn. What is going on with her? It was a miss. 5. Casey. Blah bland. 4. Aaron. I thought he did a good job, but it felt like a kids show performance. 3. Lee. Sounded great, he seemed to have more personality. 2. Mike. I liked it a lot. I don't understand the judges sometimes. 1. Crystal. She was just sounding *amazing* THEN she cry-cracked at the end. I LOVE her!! She's on Kelly Clarkson/Fantasia level in my book.

This is what I poseted on FB last night.
Inspirational Songs
Kasey James – Alicia Keys tells him to connect with the song a bit more… He started off a little raspy. And although his version is ok, it’s nothing I haven’t heard a million times before.
And the judges – agree with me…
Lee DeWyze – I do not know this song But he did a great job! It sounded contemporary. Great vocals! He really connected with it.
And the judges – Love it too!
Tim Urban – I want to like it… and some parts of it I do… I wish it wasn’t as pitchy as it was. It dcfinitely ended better than it started.
And the judges – agree
Aaron Kelly – boring – but not particularly inspiring
And the judges – liked it more than me
Siobham Magnus – wow! How pretty! She improved tonight.
And the judges – didn’t like it as much as I did
Michael Lynch – I normally love this song, but not his nasally version. This should have been epic and it just…wasn’t.
And the judges – are a mixed bag.
Crystal Bowersox – I don’t know how I feel about this. And she bawls?
And the judges – Loved it more than I did.

Whoa-- surely the highlight and most touching moment was the Annie Lennox sequence. Made the whole thing worth watching for me.

I agree, totally, LASH, wonderful song and presentation. And I think that I found where Siohban should be in the music world, at the same time. I don't know Annie Lennox's work, and I think I probably should because she's fantastic, but she and Siohban seem to have a lot in common!

Oh dear... Shady, I can't bear to think you're unfamiliar with Annie's work... let me pick some of my favorties from DIVA and MEDUSA, her two solo cds... NO MORE \'I LOVE YOUS\' This is a cover but talk about making a song your own. When she hits the chorus at around the 4 minute mark, it brings tears to my eyes... WHY Her first solo release, IIRC. This doesn't even touch on her collaborations with Dave Stewart as The Eurythmics. But I'll do just that, with one song I think you would like by title alone: THERE MUST BE AN ANGEL

First up is Lee! I always liked the song but he did a kickass job of it! I am totally impressed and I hope the judges love it as much as I did. It did start slightly pitchy.
And the judges… Liked it as much as me! YAY! And I did notice what Simon said about making some odd faces, I saw them too.
Michael does a girly song – again. Make him go away. Bluh. Please. Kill me now. Make it end. Can you guess that I despise him?
And the judges…OF course, love it more than me… LOL Simon called it girly too!
Casey – this was much better than he has been doing the last few weeks. I will saw that he almost “borrowed” Lee’s style tonight, but whatever, it worked for him, I guess.
And the judges…Loved it. I can see why. But I still don’t “love” him
Crystal – did her thing as she always does – and honestly, it wasn’t that good tonight. I don’t think the genre is right for her and the song just came off as weird.
And the judges – agree with me
Aaron – his voice is well suited to the song, I think. However, it came off as boring.
And the judges… liked it more than I do.
Siobhan – I didn’t expect her to go all out country but she did and it worked. I liked it!
And the judges… ALSO loved it!
Judging will be hard!

Least fave to most fave...
6. Lee. I love that song and the things he did to make it his own bugged me.
5. Siobahn. Started off lame, got great. It needs to be great all the way.
4. Casey. Really good.
3. Crystal. It seemed like a break from her usual greatness. Still, she's so good.
2. Mike. Loved it!
1. Aaron. He really sounded terrific. I've given him good reviews all season even though I'm not a huge fan, but he did a great job tonight.

But I'll do just that, with one song I think you would like by title alone: THERE MUST BE AN ANGEL The Eurythmics, that's where I got the familiar feeling from. I don't know that much about them, but I remember her beautiful face and short hair from one of her videos. I enjoyed the songs you gave me, LASH, thank-you. I especially like 'When Tommorrow Comes', another song at the site. That one reminded me of her Idol performance - not so much about her being beautiful and more about what she was singing. The performance on Idol was universe class, you know. The angels would've been hushed while she sang that one. Thank-you again, Michael. About the show - I really enjoyed everyone. I voted for Lee, Casey, Mike and Crystal. Aaron sang to his mom. I think I voted for him, too. sigh

to Shady I voted for Casey and Crystal. It seems all the ballast is now gone, and we are down to the cream of the season 9 crop... from here on in, it will be sad to watch anyone get the boot...

The appropriate elimination happened. Wow, American Idol has become the new American Bandstand as far as getting current acts to come perform.

Oh, btw, thank you Lash and Shady for your conversation about Annie Lenox. This morning I had a nice time watching a bunch of her videos on youtube. Also, when I listened to Lee again, I liked it better. When I listened to Mike again, I still liked it a lot.

I adore Annie Lennox.
And Lash, I'm happy to report that I loved Brooke White's High Hopes and Heartbreak. It really is like some great lost 70s soft-rock album. It's hard to pick a favorite track, but I'm going to say "Little Bird." And it counts a lot in my book that Brooke's vocal stylings are both unforced and unaffected. Now I wish I hadn't skipped the AI season she was on.
Still "Fickles" to my friends.

YAY!!! I'm SO glad you liked it, RD! High praise for Brooke.
You skipped her season? You missed her making Idol history-- during "Every Breath You Take" she started on an off note and then STOPPED the performance and started again! She also "lost the lyric" and re-started "You Must Love Me" later on that season.
I remember her taking some criticism for this (not from me, I admired her for it) but when Simon was asked what he thought about it, he replied he would have done the same thing!

Didn't the judges give her a hard time the first time she did it and basically praised her the second time.
That's the one thing about Idol, especially THIS year, the judges have not been consistent.

Overall, this season's contestants have been decent but the sorta singer/songwriter types who have talent but don't bring that highly sought after "moment." A few of them have had a moment, but then somehow fizzled after. I don't understand why Mike has been in the bottom so much and I'm glad that Crystal is getting the praise she deserves. It almost doesn't matter what the judges say. Well, at least now that Ellen has warmed up, she's more fun/funny.

Note: Why does one of Frank Sinatra’s daughters look like Jennifer Coolidge? (“Bend and snap”)
Aaron – This week we are doing Frank Sinatra songs. And Aaron did a good enough job. It just wasn’t all that interesting and he didn’t really have the swagger to pull it off.
And the judges… Two loved it… Two agreed with me….
Casey – ugh. One note and I am bored. ZZZZZ. Middle part… still bored. Let me check… am I in a coma… no, just bored. Blah!
And the judges… agreed with me. It was horrible.
Hannibal Lechter is in the audience…
Crystal - First of all, she looks great. For the first time in awhile, I felt she showed a different side. It was a good performance. MUCH better than last week.
And the judges… Didn’t like it as much as me. But they did enjoy it.
Mike – I am so not looking forward to this. But… Get ready… he did well tonight. I knew he would. Doesn’t mean I like him, don’t get me wrong, but the timing of this week’s theme helped him (and hurt Casey, who I think will be sacrificed this week)
And the judges… Of course they raved about it…
Lee – I cannot wait to see what he does – He smiled! It was frickin’ hot!
And the judges… LOVED IT!

I dislike Sinatra, I'm afraid. I've always found him and his work, arrogant and self-indulgent. And most of his songs forgetable.
Harry Jr. was adorable, though, and wonderfully knowledgeable about music! Just delightful! I'm a fan! sigh
I so dislike Kara that Ellen, whom I love, almost doesn't outweigh my displeasure. When Simon goes, I probably will, too.
Mike and Lee were best, I thought.

Where Sinatra's concerned, I DID like the different songs that the kids chose. Fortunately, there was no ;my way' or San Franciso included. I also like Sinatra in movies and on the Dean Martin Show. Anyway, I have to adjust my final 4 to remove Siohban and add Casey. I'm a little surprised he's still around. The voting might have been partly a backlash against Kara's and Simon's comments to him on Tuesday. They were pretty cruel. I know that I voted extra for him because of their treadment of him. And he was pretty darn good on Wednesday in the medley section. Gaga was so long and so bad, I thought. sigh Harry Jr. sang a Beatle song! Show tunes next week. I wonder if the judges will tell the singers not to be theatrical?!

Loved the duets! (Ellen's such a hoot!) And I enjoyed the simplicity of the night.
Hard to choose. sigh I kept that simple, in honor of the night and just voted for one person this time.
