I did a Google image search for boob window.
Some of the results:

Your examples for Dawnstar and Power Girl are actually conservative compared to how they're sometimes/usually drawn.

They're the worst look in comics, I think.

Closely followed by the 'slit to below the belly button' that we've seen for years with Shady, Jeckie and Dawny.
(And I won't even mention Lightle's digusting/functionless Umbra costume.)

I love Lightle's art but I agree that Umbra costume was ridiculous.
The current Shady's costume by Gary Frank is way over the top as well, especially those stiletto heels!!

Poor Tasmia!
She should be as fighting mad with TPTB as Superboy Prime!
lol

I think its become a Legion tradition by this point that Tasmia have a ridiculously sexy and over the top costume.

Power "Boob Window" Girl herself is harder to take serious than Bettie Boop.

I wonder when someone will get the trifecta? You know: boob window, belly shirt, pencil skirt.

Is Power Girl the first-ever boob window wearer in comcis?? That's... something.

Much like Captain America was the first ever character to appear on a "splash page", Power Girl was the first ever heroine to expose cleavage in a little window!

And of course, it made perfect sense for Threeboot Tasmia the Barbarian to be running around with an exposed midriff, right?

Oh, wait... shake

But at least it was *fan art* used for fanfic/fun, not canon published storytelling.

Aw, stop hatin' on the boob windows already!

Who's this, anyway?

It looks like Brent Anderson's stuff from Astro City, though I don't remember the character. Otherwise it could be Marzal's very own...Saucy Jones!!!

Okay, from the above pictures I'm judging that one does not wear a bra if one's costume has a boob window. If any of those ladies was wearing a bra it would be visible, right? Or, maybe they are wearing some form of micro bra that I'm just not familiar with? These ladies all seem to have plenty of support, though. I'm not noticing any drooping. Maybe the costumes are just so tight that have build in support? Do lady super heroes who don't have boob windows wear bras? I'm getting pretty confused here in my own little mind. I admit to not being much of an expert on the subject. Someone help me out here. What is the proper bra wearing etiquette for super women?

I actually think it's Shady that had the first boob window. The cut out top was in the early 70's and I think Power Girl came along about 75 or 76. Umbra

Little known fact: On planet Kaffar, boob windows are considered bad luck! Boob periscopes, however, are all the rage.

It's interesting (to me, anyways) that Ayla doesn't have a boob window, since she's long been portrayed as a bit loose in the sexy department (which hasn't always been reflected in her costume, however). Neither does Imra, but she's always pretty well covered up. Even her pink bikini was quite sedate on the top.

Perhaps there's some symbolism attached to 31st century boob windows, like religion, political affiliation or membership in some organization.

On planet Kaffar, they are afraid of evil spirits getting in through the boob windows!
