What's all this about Mario being on Letterman last night?

Well, everyone sure LOOKED better last night, even if most of them didn't sound so hot. They really stepped up the hair and makeup, LOL! I didn't vote last night, btw.
My Worst to Best:
12. LINDSEY. Aww, I wanted her to do so much better. It was really awful.
11. NIKKO. All over the place bad. The only thing that keeps him out of my last place is the fact I cut him slack for probably not having as much time to prepare.
10. MIKHALA. Well, she looked great at least. That was such the wrong song for her, and she was all over the place with it. Still, she's safe for another week.
9. ANWAR. Hmm. He's so cute and cuddly I want to scream. I like Anwar, I really do, but I half expect animated woodland creatures to be frolicking around his feet when he sings. Boy needs to show some "edge".
8. ANTHONY. So very, very, vanilla. I know Neil Sedaka is popular with American Idol, but they should discourage any contestant from singing "Breaking up Is Hard to Do".
7. SCOTT. Is it just me, or does he give the EXACT SAME performance every week? Not that he's bad or anything, but I want to see something else.
6. JESSICA. I chalk up her sub-par (for her) performance to nerves and bad song choice. It had to be hard to go first on Top 12 night, but that's what this competition is about--rising to the challenge. And that song just seemed to go on and on and on...
5. CARRIE. I didn't think she was nearly as bad as Randy and Paula did. That said, I don't think Simon did her any favors by not giving her criticism. I think she took his praise as free-reign to keep on doing exactly what she's been doing. And THAT isn't going to win AI for her. I did notice for the first time last night how much she looks like Reese Witherspoon.
4. CONSTANTINE. I think I've made it pretty clear that I can't stand this guy, but I have to give him props for last night. By far his best performance.
3. VONZELL. The surprise of the night! I thought she was fantastic. It helped that "Anyone Who Had a Heart" is one of my all time favorite songs. Plus, she looked freaking AMAZING.
2. NADIA. I'm also not a Nadia fan, but she was excellent. I was "feeling" her more last night than ever before.
1. BO. Ah, Bo....sigh. Sure, he came in early on the lyrics once, but so what! He's a star and there's no denying it. I watched it with a group of friends (male and female) and by the end of his song, we were all fanning ourselves! I've liked him all along, but never found him HOT until last night! He was looking DAMN good!!!
I think either Linsdey or Nikko will go home tonight.
Now, I think the top 4 will be Bo, Nadia, Constantine...and I'm still thinking Carrie.

On the AI board, even the most severe Constantine-haters were turned around, at least temporarily, by his great performance last night.
Oddly, Vonzell just doesn't see much "action" on the board, even after last night's swell number.
Bo, Nadia and Carrie remain big fan-favorites.
Lindsey is the hot pick there to go home tonight, closely followed by Mikalah and Nikko.
We'll know shortly!

Well, this wasn't a surprise, I'm afraid.
She looked lovely, really pretty. I wish she had been able to stumble upon a song that would really make her connect with the audience, but she never really did. The closest she came for me was "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing". Maybe she should have saved that for last night's performance.
As for the bottom 3, I also wasn't surprised they were all females. Mikki and Jessica are going to have to step it up BIG TIME next week if they want to compete with Carrie and Nadia.

I missed it! It was Lindsey, right? Were there any guest performances? Former Idol contestants? Huh? Huh?

Grrr! I had a lazy day in front of the tv, and saw some of the Ashlee Simpson show and ended up getting "You make me wanna LA LA" stuck in my head all night!!! AAARRRRGGHHH!!!! Heh! However, the funny thing was I gave that disease to a co-worker, and got over it myself.

Yes, it was Lindsey. No guest-stars or former AI contestants. The current top 12 did sing a rather blase song together called, iirc, "When You Say You Love Me". It was just a'aight, kinda dull.

OMG that opening number by the 12 was DREADFUL! Seemed as each of them sang their one or two lines that every single one of them was off key. It just dragged and dragged and dragged. Any word yet on when the single will be released?

Man, I'm gonna have to vote for Jessica next week. Girl didn't deserve to be in the bottom three.

Agreed re: Jessica, but I figured Nikko's fans would step up their voting majorly.
I hope both Mikki AND Jessie kick total ASS next week.

The songs are all posted at the aiByRequest yahoogroup. I'm in love with Nadia's song. I listened to the group song, and I didn't think it was all that bad. I was trying to figure out who was who since I didn't see it.

Random thought--- this AI cast would be perfect in HAIR the musical. Naturally Bo and Constantine would be the 2 male leads. Nadia sings Aquarius. Carrie sings Good Morning Starshine. ETC etc...

Clay Aiken's attorneys are allegedly involved, considering the fact that they got Clay out of his AI commitments. This is all here-say, btw.

Will there be a Broadway night...? Heh! I don't think they've ever done a Broadway night. I'm sure Simon couldn't sit through it. He *never* stopped telling Clay that he seemed more like a Broadway star than a pop star.

From the Letterman Show:
No. 10: “Well, for starters, I was really, really drunk.
No. 9: “I’ve got my eye on the ultimate prize: ‘Belgium Idol”’
No. 8: “Yeah, my career’s over, but I just saved a bundle on my car insurance.”
No. 7: “After seeing Michael Jackson, maybe I don’t want to be a pop star.”
No. 6: “Ryan Seacrest is all hands.”
No. 5: “I started liking when Ryan Seacrest was all hands.”
No. 4. “Screw it — I’m quitting this, too.”
Mario then walked off the stage and never returned.

This is all here-say, btw. Not quite ( MSNBC ): NEW YORK - Mario Vazquez is no longer contending for the “American Idol” crown, but he’s following in the footsteps of one of its most famous alumnus — Clay Aiken. Vazquez has hired Aiken’s lawyer, Jess L. Rosen — the man who sprung Aiken from the contract binding him to the 19 Entertainment, the management company owned by “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller.
19 Entertainment oversees not just the recording deal for “American Idol” stars, but also merchandising, touring, sponsorship and movie deals. The “Idol” contracts are considering among the more restrictive in the industry.
Aiken is now managed by leading management group The Firm.
Neither Vazquez nor Rosen was available for comment Thursday, according to Vazquez’s publicist, Matt Shelton. But Shelton did tell The Associated Press that Vazquez hired Rosen before he quit “American Idol” last Sunday.
Vazquez, a 27-year-old New York City native, stunned “Idol” watchers when he bolted from the show last week for reasons he would only describe as “personal.” A fan favorite, he was considered a top contender for the show’s crown.

Well, I didn't watch the show during Clay Aiken's season, but I think he's a jerk. He owes all of his fame and fortune to American Idol.
As for Mario, they should clamp down, fight him tooth and nail and hold him to his contract to the very last nanosecond.
Or else, crap like this will continue to happen and the plug will be pulled on American Idol.

That's a tough call. I mean, yes, these people get a huge start to their careers because of AI, but if their contracts totally confine them, I could understand wanting to be able to breathe. It seems like almost every new artist takes whatever contract they can get, and then when they make it, try to re-negotiate or get new deals.
On a lighter note, I am *obsessed* with "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me." Can't stop singing it. In less than a week, I've totally memorized the words. I wonder how long it'll last?

Yeah, I worry about that AI contract limiting a singer's artistic expression. If AI gets to choose the songs and tries to fit a singer into it's mold, I fear some really good singers may be getting short changed. For example, I think Fantasia could be a great torch singer or jazz singer but I wonder if she'll get the opportunity to explore that during her AI contract.
I also heard a snippet of a song from the forth coming album of Jon Peter Lewis from last year. It was really good, sort of folk, but nothing he would ever have been allowed to do on AI - and his voice didn't fit the AI mold, that's for sure.
Mario has to look out for himself. I say all the more power to him.

I do think the 7-year contract for AI winners could be shortened to 5, but these kids go into this with both eyes wide open and all the cards known and on the table.
Honor your commitments. Do what you say you will do. I do not wish either Clay Aiken or Mario continued success.
I find it hard to believe I'm siding with sleazy record execs, but I am.
But on to more fun topics....
Tuesday can't get here soon enough!!
