Now, now, Scooter! Opie has nothing to be ashamed of! He's the 6th best unsigned singing talent in the nation, after all!

top group:
Diana, Fantasia, Latoya.
bottom group:
Jasmine, George, John S.
Jasmine was sent back to the safety couch, and at that point I was 99% sure John would be going home.
He took it like a man (as he has this entire process).
He said he was "somewhat" relieved that it was over, and when asked what he would miss most, he pointed to the 5 remaining contestants and said "them".
His farewell song was... well, typical John S., but he had the other contestants in tears (notably Fantasia, Diana and especially Jasmine).
Poor guy. He's actually had DEATH THREATS lodged against him (see the American Idol message board for details).

I didn't like the boy and the fact he outlasted people with more obvious talent but I do not condone nor support the threats he has received. There was no call for that and the DJ who did the one death threat over the air shouldn't only be fined and fired but prosecuted as well.

Thanks for the update Lash n' Lightning. I think this week's Entertainment Weekly has some Idol kids on the cover...

I'll be sure to buy that, thanks Monkey!
Now... here's the scoop on the AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 3 CD!
It's all I've listened to since I bought it Tuesday, so I stand ready to announce the verdict:
It's not bad.
Actually, all the songs (1 by each of the top 12) sound very nice, and the ensemble number is cheesy fun.
Still, some tracks were nicer than others. Here's the breakdown from nice-weakest to nice-strongest.
It should be no surprise that Leah Labelle (first voted off) has the weakest track. Her 'Betcha By Golly Wow' is a nice little lullabye.
Surprisingly, Amy Adams is next weakest. But "You Make Me Feel Brand New' is such a boring cut to begin with. Listen to these 2 songs as a pleasant insomnia cure.
Follow them up with Jon Steven's 'You Are Everything'. I was surprised li'l Opie sounded as good as he did, but there's virtually no emotion whatsoever in his version of this song.
From here on, things on the CD are more intersting.
Matt Rogers does an excellent version of 'Dock Of The Bay', a nice, strong vocal. He gets minus points for not doing anything original with it, though.
Jasmine Trias does a sweet 'Midnight Train to Georgia' in her pretty tone.
JPL does a very engaging 'My Girl', chock full of JPL-isms, scoring him bonus points.
George does a nice job on 'Me & Mrs. Jones'. Just don't imagine him bouncing as he sings it.
Fantasia and Diana do excellent, soulful versions of their song ('Chain of Fools' & "Heard it Through the Grapevine', respectively). Good stuff, they sound GREAT on cd.
Camile does a great job of 'Until You Come Back to Me' in her nasal, hiccuppy style that I love so much.
Latoya London's 'If You Don't Know Me' shows off her range a bit, but hers isn't the "POWERHOUSE" vocal on the CD.
That spot is reserved for Jennifer Hudson's treatment of 'Neither One of Us'. I'll state for the record here she is my favorite of the bunch, with Camile a close second.
All in all, the CD was a bit too downbeat. Only Fantasia, Diana and Camile are allowed up-tempo numbers.
A bit too much mid- and slow-tempo stuff overall, but otherwise a very nice listen for fans of these guys.

Thanks, Dean.
I wouldn't have gotten the cd either, but the AI Machine is powerful... like Universo the first 2 times he took control of Earth!
Now I can't wait for Jennifer & Camile's solo cd's!

Loved the theme last night! Big Bands! I thought George had the least interesting performance. I agree with the judges that it was "safe." The young girls (Di and Jaz) did perfectly fine, but again, I agree with the judges that LaToya and Fantasia are just in a whole other category of GREATNESS!!!! Both of those girls were amazing. I predict that George will go tonight, leaving the top four all women- a first!

Final four! Are y'all happy with who's left? I think Laytoya has been fairly consistently awesome while the other three have revolved between mediocrity and greatness. I don't think Fantasia is a great as the judges make her out to be...

My friend said it best....my head is voting for LaToya but my heart is voting for Fantasia. Actually, that's similar to last season, my head was voting for Ruben but my heart was voting for Clay. Actually, my heart was voting for both of them. My heart and my head voted for Kelly the first year. Now ya know!

I'm pleased with the final 4; these 4 along with Jennifer are definitely the best vocalists of the Top 12.
I'm less enamored of Latoya than most I'm aware of. I think she's had just as many "iffy" nights as Fantasia, Diana and Jasmine.
Everyone's assuming Jasmine will go next week, then Diana the week after leaving Fantasia & Latoya to duke it out. I admit that seems likely, but I'd *love* to be surprised somehow...!

I'm hoping so!
But as it stands right now, I'd be content with any of those 4 winning.
I consider all of the Top 12 winners, anyway. They've each made Legions of fans.
I will certainly be looking out for Camile Velasco & Jennifer Hudson solo projects...

Last night's show was difficult, what with sweet Jasmine breaking down after being dissed by Simon, Paula, Randy & Donna Summer.
Damn it, they've made it to the final 4, get OFF their asses, I say!
Having the Aloha-State Sweetiepie in tears may have caused an upsurge of support for her, 'net rumours say, which would mean the Judges are inadvertantly the cause of one of their Favored 3 going home tonight...
I predict we'll be seeing Latoya leave tonight, myself.

Well I hope its Jasmine who's going home. Maybe I just have something against the name.
But her performances last night were, to me, extremely bad. Not one note on key and all over the place. When you make it this far you give it your best game, not your worst.
I just hope Diana has enough supporters to pull her through since she gave the best performances last night.

Diana was without a doubt the star of last night's show, and the only one to choose an actual Donna Summer song to sing.
Jasmine has NEVER sung anything but ballads or bluesy numbers. I admired her attempts to step it up for Disco night, but it just ISN'T her musical genre and never will be.
A quick check of the AI boards say that both ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT and CNN state that AI producers have confirmed a MASSIVE upset for tonight's show.
I'm a bit nervous about it. It COULD mean that Diana is going, after her fantastic performance last night and the praise from the judges.

But would Diana really be a massive upset since since been in the bottom three so often? A massive upset to me would be either Latoya or Fantasia going.
Maybe it'll be Fantasia. She, to me, had an off night too. I did not care for her rendition of I Need A Hero. I love the song but her version sounded almost like a Weird Al version. Like she didn't care how it sounded. Maybe she's gotten a little too cocky.

15 minutes!!! I'm SO nervous!!!
Oh yeah, that YAHOO GROUP I joined now has most of the audition stuff, so I finally got to hear Jennifer's lovely IMAGINE again, PLUS got to hear several Scootergirl songs, plus more stuff I'd forgotten, like Katie singing ORANGE COLORED SKY and Elizabeth singing FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE!!!
Thanks, Dean, I *love* that group!!

Oh my, that was a surprising turn of events! Are there more "that was racist!" sentiments again? I'm sure Latoya will get something good going next so I'm not to worried for her...

I was in total shock and denial about LaToya's dismissal! I have never seen so many people crying over an elimination like last nights. Paula just couldn't seem to hold herself together. It's like Clay said, though... the top four are probably all going to end up with record contracts and great careers, but dammit! I wanted Latoya to WIN!!!! This totally proves to me that voting isn't always the right way to settle these things. However, it certainly does make for interesting television entertainment, huh?
The immediate explanation I came up with was that the younger viewers must have rallied. This year, the winner could very well be a teen. I think other teens would like that, and they've got the stamina to repeatedly call in to vote and rally all their buddies to do so, too. But, I dunno...
Lash, glad you're digging the yahoo group. I've found the groups to be the best way to find clips of performances I've missed.
So, now I'm putting all my energy toward Fantasia, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I have a feeling Diana might get there....

LaToya's departure was indeed shocking... Yikes! I actually found her more intriguing b/c she seemed kinda closed off and wary of being in the public eye, and her voice is flawless.
I guess Fantasia is my current fave, and Diana DeGarmo continues to impress, especially on disco night, but that Jasmine has to go! (Jennifer Hudson was my absolute favorite until she was booted).
I must say that LaToya went off with the utmost of class. Bravo!
Why are you laughing at me? It's unkind, as well as puzzling!
