I received an early Christmas gift. Happy Holidays to all and Long Live the Legion!
SPOILER SPACE
Highlights -- Clark escapes to 31st century Smallville and is attacked by the Orion servant. -- Superboy rescues Clark. -- We learn the dark servants are NOT clones or doppelgangers of past superheroes, but the real deal, plucked from the timestream. -- The Apokoliptians are building a TEMPORAL DAM against an upheaval in time that happened 10 years ago. -- Jazmin resigns and makes Cosmic Boy leader. -- Rokk cuts Superboy from the team. -- Clark leads the Legion to Apokolips where they battle parademons. -- Darkseid is reanimated and brings his younger self from the past.
The Smallville Heritage Site, Kansas A farmer working in the fields witnesses a meteoric explosion that is accompanied by a loud BOOM. The Dark Kal-El servant arises from a crater, grasping in his hand the "S" emblem he had ripped from Superboy's shirt. He removes his helmet and introduces himself to the startled farmer as Clark Kent. Suddenly, a second BOOM is heard and Dark Orion appears. He seizes Clark by the neck, calling him a traitor and renegade. As Orion prepares to kill Clark, someone else grabs his wrist. It's Superboy (who appears in "the costume" throughout the issue). A team of Legionnaires is seen thresholding in the distance.
Legion World Command Deck Saturn Girl, XS and Triad view the events in Smallville on a monitor. An unexpectedly cheery Live Wire appears on deck and asks what's going on. XS nervously brushes him off. Live Wire offers his help but Saturn Girl tells him everything is under control. He reminds her they are scheduled to meet Dr. Gym'll. Saturn Girl tells him she's too busy and that he should go alone, then walks away.
The Smallville Heritage Site Superboy battles Orion and is holding his own. Cosmic Boy, referring to Superboy as "a sprocking idiot", intervenes and traps Orion in a magnetic field, but he escapes thru a boom tube. Rokk berates Superboy, presumably for breaking away from the team. The Legion learns the other, non-hostile servant is Clark Kent.
Broadcasting room of "As the World Spins" Trudy Trusoe wonders which story to lead with. The news that Durla has experienced a 50-minute rewind? The millions of Catastrophists who have mysteriously disappeared?
Legion World Lyle confirms that the person found in Smallville is the 15-year old Clark Kent (Clark appears throughout the issue with darkened skin and glowing red eyes). The Legion discusses how important it is NOT to reveal to Clark anything about his future. Clark relates his kidnapping by three strangers (flashback panel), and how, on a dead and decayed world, they used yellow-sun radiation to make him stronger. He started to shake off the brainwashing when he first saw the "S" emblem on Superboy's shirt, which he recognized only as a Kryptonian symbol. He also reveals that Darkseid's servants had initially kidnapped another person but dumped their mistake in D-space (curiously, he doesn't connect this event with Kon-El). Clark escaped Apokolips by using his motherbox to open up a boom-tube to Smallville. Superboy reacts during Clark's story, but Cosmic Boy tells him to "shut the sprock up".
Brainy concludes that "significant individuals" like Clark have been plucked from the timestream to serve Apokolips. We also learn something new about the dark matter that's being siphoned from the galaxy. It's being used by the Apokoliptians to build a TEMPORAL DAM against a MAMMOTH UPHEAVAL in time that took place 10 years ago. The only way the Legion can find the answers it needs is to go to Apokolips, and the only way they can get there is to ask Clark to create a boom tube with his motherbox (it's genetically coded only to work for Clark). Clark agrees to help them. The Legionnaires beam at him lovingly, except Superboy.
Elsewhere on Legion World, Jazmin tells Rokk she is standing down as leader due to her dangerous power fluctuations. She asks Rokk to take over. She mentions that Violet is still injured and can't join the team. They kiss.
Rokk's first decision as leader is to ground Superboy as a "potential liability". Superboy is furious and stalks off to the outer deck, where he sees Live Wire. The two ponder how neither of them fits in.
Apokolips The Legion, plus Clark, arrives on Apokolips just in time to see a new group of Catastrophists sacrificing their lives to reignite the fires of Apokolips. Suddenly, parademons appear (transformed Catastrophists?) and a battle ensues. Brainy notices the calcified Darkseid, whose eyes are glowing red. Darkseid rises from his chair. He reaches through a boom tube and grasps a blue-gloved hand.
Last panel: The old Darkseid of the 31st century clasps hands with his younger counterpart from the distant past.
P.S. DnA don't miss a beat. This issue is as good, maybe better, than #27. Batista and Wallace reach a new pinnacle of excellence. What a shame to lose these guys.

Cosmic Boy is really something, isn't he? irrational against Superboy...that's so unlike when he appeared in Superboy #45 where they're friends.
Cosmic Boy a leader again? huh? I wish it should fall on Triad who was supposed to be a deputy leader.
And Saturn Girl, XS, and Triad being so cold-bitch toward Garth!?!? Can't believe that...Garth was the one who SAVED the Legion Lost and they should thank him, but no....oh boy. Gosh.

As if I didn't like XS enough already. And I'm with superboymddjr. How can Kid Q hand over the leadership to Cos? That's not how it works and Lu should speak up.

Thanks for the post, Tromium Crystal. Yes, I agree, it should be Triad. Cos has had his chance already. And it seems that Cos is over-reacting. He was the one who summoned Superboy to help out back in Legion of Superheroes 99, and he never shouted like that at Impulse, who is even harder to control than Superboy. I just can't help but feel some sympathy for Kon, even though I don't like him that much. And I never thought Jenni would act that way, she was so supportive when Vi became the Emerald Empress before. And Imra... Hopefully they'll adjust soon. So it seems that Jazmin, Kon, Vi and Garth and maybe Chuck will be the only ones left on Legion World. Hopefully this means Vi's injury is just going to be a plot device that ensures her presence there, and not a serious injury that will take her out for good. I can hardly wait! Just another week or so...

Ok granted that Cosmic Boy is a founder, but how does he rate so damn high?!?! He has always had this holier than thou attitude, and it has finally gotten to me. He needs to get off of his high horse, and I for one would love to see Kon knock Cosmic Boy on his sprocking arse.

Superboy2000 - you're NOT the only one...I was ticked off at Cosmic Boy...grrrr...But I am complaining about the leadership - Cos again? why not Triad? I wish that DnA can get into here and explain why they chose him over Triad. geez...like it will happen.

The Legionnaires could make a case against Cos being leader, if they knew about his relationship with Jazmin. Go Triad! Let Luornu finally get a taste of the leadership role after 45 years of the Legion! No offense against Cos, though.

Oh yeah...
...and on the "Deputy" bit, isn't that the one who comes 2nd in the leader election? We know Ayla, KQ2 and Imra voted for Rokk, Brainy voted for himself, and AFAWK everyone else voted for KQ2.

I forgot to mention: There are homages to Mort Weisinger and Curt Swan. See how quickly you can find them. Quislet makes a cameo appearance! Miscellaneous thoughts/reactions: I had the same (negative) reaction to Rokk's being made leader. His treatment of Superboy is despicable, as is Imra's treatment of Garth. My impression is that the two "misfits" will be given the opportunity to prove their true mettle before the arc is over. Can someone post the picture of Saturn Girl's rotting corpse from Generations III? I wonder if the Legion will try to use the captured Orion as a weapon against Darkseid? Can the other brainwashed super-heroes be turned against their master? What a blow-out that would be! The Temporal Dam. Whoa! What (or who) are the Apokoliptians trying to keep at bay? Darkseid's downfall, maybe.

Anything done with Cub this issue? I guess we were wrong about his playing a vital role inthis storyline. It appears he is going to be just another dangler
