It's an odd topic for me, while I don't like the idea of boycotting an artist because of their politics, an artist's public persona can get in the way of my enjoyment of their work. Take Kevin Spacy, for example -- once in a while I can separate and enjoy his work, but too often I just end up getting distracted by some of the stuff he's done as himself.
Dixon's been on my avoid list pretty much since I started reading comics again, not because of his political stances, but because his writing was always so boring. I liked his BoP one shots, but the series was as boring as anything else of Dixon's.
Away from comics, but in that vein, I've been debating about Orson Scott Card. Part of me would like to re-read the Ender books, but some of his antigay comments does come to mind every time I reach for one of his books in the store and I end up spending my money on someone else who doesn't give me that pause.
To be honest, I adore Judd Winick but I've mostly found his superhero work to be pretty dull. I gave Caper a shot, tho, and would have picked it up if I could find the further issues. A friend told me that he thought Judd was perfect on Green Arrow, considering that Ollie's a loudmouthed liberal. I enjoyed Exiles for two or three years, but just not enough when I felt I was spending too much money on comics.
I loooove all of his indie stuff, tho. Road Trip is one of the best single-issue stories ever and I keep telling my boyfriend he's Barry Ween.
OTOH, I don't even think of buying any Byrne because of what a jerk I've seen him be to people online... plus there was this comic journalist who used to spend time on usenet who was a complete maroon and was the biggest Bryne advocate, further tainting his name for me.
