I only am picking up this arc for the Power Girl appearance, but I find it odd no one has chimed in about the Legion connection surrounding the villain:
Click Here For A SpoilerSaturn Queen
After that Superman/Batman arc, doesn't this muddy the continuity waters even more?

I was just logging in to post this. Thanks rouge!
This revelation might make this book semi-bareable.

Been trying to figure out who the imposter "Kal-El" is...
#1 - Ultraman? #2 - General Zod? #3 - Proteus? #4 - time-displaced under controlled Kal-El? #5 - Black Zero all grown up? lastly.....but not least....possible - based on Dan DiDio's clue that the one character won't be seen in Legion.... could it be....
#6 - Lar Gand? Mon-El?

I was thinking that it was Mon-El or M'Onel or whatever. Or that he might show up (*fingers crossed*) or something.
I'm more annoyed than interested in the villain angle, though. Superman/Batman sort of ruined that one for me. But I'm hoping it'll get straightened out nicely. (Hey, a girl can dream.)

DC and Marvel'll never put out two sequentially-numbered issues of a title in the same week, even if they're both by different creative teams and they're both complete. It'd be suicide for them.

Now I'm not showing #8 for Diamond this or next week. I really wonder why DC bother's with their weekly shipping updates when they are usually wrong. Marvel keeps much better track of their's online.

#6 - Lar Gand? Mon-El? The two that make the most sense to me are Click Here For A Spoiler Ultraman from Earth-3 (or whichever one the Crime Syndicate was from) because of that one line in which he speaks of having been "in a Syndicate". The other possiblity is that he is the Kal that we saw in the LSV arc in S/B since he was Saturn Queen's "son" in that also. of course, my biggest fear is that this could be the new Lar Gand that DiDio spoke of. One other thing...Click Here For A Spoiler Didn't anyone else find Kara's memory of her conversation with her "father" odd? Is Zor-El now an evil brother to Jor-El? So evil, in fact that he set his daughter the task of killing her baby cousin? What are these pople smoking?
"Hey Jim! Get Mon out of the Zone!! And...when do we get Condo back?"

It was first revealed in Supergirl #5, though we were left to ponder if it was a lie fabricated by "Satan Girl". Writer Joe Kelly recently confirmed it was true and, like it or not, it does help explain why she's such as schizoid.

OK, that image was enough to rouse my curiosity so I went out and bought #7. Not too bad a story and the artwork zipped along. But I need some one to give me the old janet and john bit on the background. For example, what and where is this Kandor and why are we seeing the aftermath of a rebellion against a "church" of El? How can an alien tattoo a Kryptonians back? Also as a big favour can some one confirm Kara'a back story. she is Kryptonian, from Argo City right? Did Argo survive ir was it destroyed? Why are all the Kryptonians shown from the flashbacks to her Father (that was him wasnt it) to the church of El to the rebels wearing versions of the sueprman s shield?

I've been reading this since #1 and I don't think I can answer your question, FL. I don't know what the hell is going on with this comic. It reads like a continuation of SUPERMAN/BATMAN with alternate realites bumping into each other. Is Kal-el here Ultra-man? Mon-el? Another alternate Superman? The son of Saturn Woman? Is this the Saturn Woman from the LSV arc in SUPERMAN/BATMAN? Where *is* this Kandor?
I really didn't want to see Kara liplocking her cousin while straddling him with his hand cupping her butt. Even if he is an alternate Kal.
And, most importantly, is she *really* an assassin sent to kill her cousin?
Yechhh.

I didn't enjoy this issue that much, but I'm glad more of the mystery seems revealed. I'm enjoying the depiction of Kara in Legion way better than in Supergirl.

I started buying it just before Crisis and thought I'd keep picking it up to know what the heck is going on with Kara and the two time periods but nothing is making any kind of sense at all. Power Girl seems to be acting like a bitchy big sister to Kara and Kara acts like cliche bad girl from a poorly written script about rebellious teenagers.
I realize they're pumping out some kind of "graphic novel" sized storyline to toss onto the shelves later this year (or early next) but that doesn't mean they have to put out inane crap for the first few issues just to put all of the "meat" of the tale in the last few comics.
I would really have liked a clue a little earlier that there was mind controlling telepath behind the fake Kal-El..or a hint as to just who the leader of the church of El might really be. I like the alternate reality guesses here. Saturn Queen and Ultra Man... woooff... interesting possibility. Also could this be one of Kal's descendants that she's brought back into the 21st C. just for this purpose?
I have to wonder if any of the rest of the LSV will show up before all is said and done.

FL,
I am almost totally befuddled as well, but I did some Wikipedia searches.
1) Kandor is now a Kryptonian city, but has other non-Kryptonian aliens in it (don't know why).
2) The "sun" in Kandor is red, so a Kryptonian's powers should fade away after awhile, which is why PG was talking about conserving their powers. (Why this "Kal-El" dude has powers, I don't know -- sun lamps?)
3) Zor-El is dressed in the style of Kryptonians from "Superman: Birthright." Waid made the "S" an important historical symbol for Krypton. There's been stuff in "52" on this, too. I assume that the S-Shield is also the family crest for the House of El, a la "Superman: The Movie."
As far as I can tell, this is the first mention of Argo still existing. The Supergirl "origin" in Superman/Batman simply had her spaceship stuck in the Kryptonian "asteroid" headed towards Earth.
I don't mind mystery in comics, and doing some legwork to understand things, but this is just ridiculous.
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

thanks DC It seems like I am not the only one confused as to what is going on.
So the big question is do I buy the next issue to find out (and thus justify this sort of deliberate confusion to the marketing guys) or what until its all sorted out and then let you guys tell me about it on Legion World.

Well, unfortunately for me it seems that I'm going to have to buy the next issue anyway. If Saturn Queen is the villian behind the villian then it's going to be SOME kind of Legion tie in that will have to go into my boxes of Legion stuff. -sigh-
...and who knows? "Maybe the pig will learn to sing!"

I just want to know what happened to Kara during her time with the Legion to make her so sick and twisted. At least that's what I get out of the characterization in her own title OYL.

Zowie!
Ok...so it IS Ultraman!
That is So wierd. Doesn't Eve know that nothing the negative universe anti-heroes do in our universe can EVER go right?
Actually he looks to me to be an "alternate universe" version of "our" Ultraman. That would be pretty wierd too. Is there a negative universe Saturn Queen?
So many questions...so little story!

If you have been reading this book, then you know of Saturn Queen's involvment with Kandor.
However, did anyone catch it when she said..."when I lobotomized the Legion"? Is she refering to an untold classic tale... or is this why our current 31st heroes are all screwed up?
Maybe Saturn Queen turns out to be the Time Trapper... and this all still his/her attempt to keep Mordru from coming into power???
I know... I need to go take my meds...

I think she's refering to the arc of Superman/Batman that had the Legion under the control of Saturn Queen, Lightning Lord and Cosmic King. They showed those panels, anyway.
But that was all undone when Clark and Bruce rebelled and saved the day, while the adult Legion came to take care of the three bad guys. I'm guessing this means at least she escaped.
Also, this issue was Supergirl #8, not #9.

I loved the scene where Eve forcibly "adopts" Ultraman. Interestingly, there seems to be a way from the Phantom Zone into Kandor. Anyone got Mon-El's cell number? He needs to know.

So now we have two more Crisis refugees on the loose (Saturn Queen from an alternate future and an Ultraman from an alternate Earth)? DC is sure doing it's best to chip away at it's continuity foundation that's not even built yet. The fact that they were left more or less intact means they'll be back. Saturn Queen's not necessarily as bad, but there's already an Ultraman in the Anti-Matter Universe. I predict messiness.
