Sadly enough, I must let go of some of my titles. I knew the time would come now that I have a child and with it comes wonderful, new responsibilites as well as financial ones. When looking over the budget, my comics indulgence is some of the "fat" that we can cut, so now I must ponder which ones I should let go. Help me decide!!! Legion will always stay, natch! So here are my other titles and I'll let you decide which titles are "expendable" (sniff, sniff).

JLA
JSA
Teen Titans
Outsiders
Wonder Woman
Birds of Prey
Avengers
X-Men
Uncanny X-Men
X-treme X-Men

If it were me, I'd drop the X titles and maybe JLA. I'm thinking of droping JLA myself, after Byrne's run (kinda like watching a train wreck, have to see what happens).

But there is another solution. If you have a Windows PC you can always use Direct Connect to download the issues you'd like. You just need at least 1GB of files to share.

Thanks LL for the suggestion, but I have an iMac. I think the X books are going to go too. (sigh). I just wish there was the one title like the good ole days. JLA is not doing it for me either, but it's hard to let go of the big guns, I'm such a die hard traditionalist!

Well, I'd say Teen Titans and JSA, but that's only because I dislike Geoff John's work with a passion. X-Treme X-Men is ending, so you lose that one by default.

I'd say get rid of JSA and Outsiders.

I dropped JSA a few months ago and can't say I miss it. None of the subplots EVER get resolved and things just drag onn interminably.

Outsiders - I've only read one issue of this but the new characters are uninspired and what's the point of reading a team book that doesn't have the real Metamorpho but his half-baked clone in the roster?!

JLA, Outsiders, Wonder Woman, and the Xs. Those are pretty much the ones I dropped or am dropping soon.

Nah, keep OUTSIDERS, it's hella-fun.

Don't let go of JLA if you're not ready. That title always has it's highs and lows and you DON'T wanna miss a high.

Do give the boot to all the X-books and Wonder Woman, though!

Right now the X-books, but they are getting new creative teams soon...

I'm not enjoying JLA right now, but it'll probably get good againn soon. And I fear that Chuck Austen will give the Avengers a bad run, but I'm sticking around anyway to see. So, I can't really help you beyond that smile !

If I were in a situation similar to yours, I would unload the X-titles as well.

JLA I would watch to see how the rotating creative teams thing works; get the ones I like, drop the ones I don't.

I recently dropped Titans (majorly sucky to my mind) and Outsiders and JLA went off my list ages ago. I'm also going to drop Avengers because despite Olivier's art the last issue was just a bit crappy really. I don't read any X books so I can't really advise on those ones but JSA I still really enjoy (although I can see why others have dropped it) and while both BoP and Wonder Woman were going through major slumps a little while back since Gail Simone and Greg Rucka have taken over the titles they've both shot up on my reading list so I wouldn't recommend dropping either. That's just my personal taste though of course.

Does this sound like another book we all know and love? wink

I also dropped JSA and don't really miss it. Teen Titans on the other hand is a HUGE surprise to me. I expected to like Outsiders much more, but Titans has that title beat hands down. I still enjoy Outsiders, especially with Raney back in the saddle. Judd's writing is almost a bit too "adult" but I love how he writes female characters.

I would echo Lightning Lad on dropping X-titles and JLA -except the only reason I collect Avengers is for Coipel. If I had to choose between Coipel and Larocca ---OY, tough choice for me. Then if Alan Davis really does come back to an X-Title (Excalibur -snicker/guffaw) then all those other artists lose.

What I've decided is to just drop the marginal titles (like JLA after the Byrne arc) and the Superman titles after the upcoming re-boot. If anything good comes up later, I'll just grab an electronic copy.

I've become so addicted to sharing comic files on Direct Connect that I've got over 20 gigabytes worth of books saved up now. If I miss a series I'll see if its available there, download and save it to my shared file for others.

Of course I'll never fully stop buying books but I need to cut back on my $30/week habit.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the verdict is in. Thanks for your input.

I'm keeping Legion, JSA, Teen Titans, and Birds of Prey.

I've dropped all X books, Avengers, Wonder Woman for good and JLA for now.

It feels odd not to have any Marvel titles, but I was always a DC guy at heart. It also feels odd not to have my JLA and JSA, but the last monkey storyline in JLA was the last straw.

Outsiders is on the cusp. I love most of the characters, but I'm finding the tone of the book jarring. I don't expect a book with Arsenal, Nightwing and Jade (characters that drew me to the book originally) to be filled with so much cursing. I'm no Puritan, but the language doesn't jibe with me.

I'll have to get my updates on these books hopefully from this type of forum. I lament the end of an era as I let go of these titles. Silly?

Not at all.

I felt similar the day I decided to drop all the X-titles I was getting. And again when I dropped all the Bat-books.

Owl Lad, I too felt the same way in the late 90s after I dropped all the X-books after loving them for years. I just woke up and realized, "This ain't working anymore." Years later, I had to be dragged kicking & screaming into pickup up Allred's X-FORCE (it was his art that did the trick and I'm glad it did).

Anyhoo, I'm glad you haven't actually given up OUTSIDERS yet... I am CERTAINLY no prude, but even I have been a tad taken aback at times by the language in that series... but, MAN! the latest issue (#9) was just SOOOO good... and as Ger states, Winick is top-notch at writing the female characters...
