Yeah. To think, Gail ended her story and went to a lame Firestorm debacle and a weak sauce Batgirl comic. I wish she'd do something non DC!

I wish she'd do a new secret six and go back to BoP.

New Secret Six series by Gail!Only returnees may be Catman and Black Alice. Can we live without Scandal, Deadshot and Rag Doll? Onboard?

She introduced the NU52 Rag Doll in her Batgirl run, hopefully she can work him into the mix eventually. This will be the only NU52 book besides Batwoman I'll be getting.

On the fence. I loved Secret Six, and Alice was an interesting character, but I'm not sold on her as an anchor. Also, Simone's constant "Peggy Sue"ing of Catman was my only real complaint about the "core" of S6. The rest of the cast is going to be really important here.

Who is The Mockingbird?
No, not that one...

I've been off DCNu for over a year, and this is the biggest temptation I've had since. It may actually be a plus that it's not attempting to be exactly what it was, at least at first. (Her return to BoP was pretty underwhelming, for example.) Not sure who any of the other four pictured are, though one appears to be a Talon from the Court of Owls. Any others identifiable?
Ironically, I'm also tempted by the post-Gail Batgirl and its lighter-looking tone.

Simone's constant "Peggy Sue"ing of Catman That's "Mary Sue"ing. "Peggy Sue" is the oldies radio staple.

Who is suing whom? When did everything become so litigious?
I never thought the Secret Six were a patch on Ostrander's Suicide Squad (or the original Secret Six for that matter).
[insert name] sue-ing of a number of characters did bog down Suicide Squad too though, with the guest villains obviously being cannon fodder. Not to the extent I saw in the DCNu version of the squad.

Ha! I thought "Peggy sue" was like a cross-gender Mary Sue or something! I was prepared to use it in a ripping criticism on a moments notice!
Meanwhile, I'm of mixed feelings on this. Gail's last few DC series have been "meh" at best. I don't blame her--I think she's wonderful--I blame shitty mofo-ing DC. No Deadshot or Scandal is a dissapointment. But Lardy is right, in that it's probably better to walk its own path than reclaim a moment in time that's moved on. Ah well, in all likelihood I won't get it unless I hear positive reviews, including from you guys. If there sounds like there's something there, I'll jump in. But I won't be beta-testing it.
And to hit on something Lardy said, I think I actually am going to try the new Batgirl run. I know, right? I hate the idea of Babs not being Oracle. I hate DC and the new 52. I truly believe that behind closed doors, Dan Didio is exactly like the bad guy at the end of True Detective but with more incest and more sweaty chest hair. I'm the last person I'd guess would buy it. But dammit if it doesn't look like at long last DC has a potentially awesome new series combining the right amount of fun / action / upbeat tone / great lead / stands on it's own without being a nostalgia bukake / a top notch editor allowing his creators to be artists / and every other good feeling that I forgot DC could give me. I'm gonna try it. Please let it be good.

It's secret Six and Gail. Yup. I"m there.
Hell, I wrote poetry for that book. Yeah, it wasn't good poetry. It was turrible. And I know this. Don't care.
That book was sick, twisted, demented, warped and bizarre.
Damn Fun!
As for batgirl...I'm out. I wasn't going to buy it originally, and didn't for a year, but the quality was there for me, unlike BoP. But a chance to read a nasty team doing dirty deeds dirty cheap at dusk...HEllZ YEAH!

Gail actually admitted there was editorial interference regarding Batgirl, even after she came back. She was planning a story where Babs' roommate became Batgirl for a while.
And actually, you guys mean Marty Stu.

Mary Sue, Peggy Sue, Marty Sue. It's all getting a bit confusing. What's needed is a single term. In honour of our pantry and bread threads I think it should be Tirami-Sue.

Secret Six in december. Hey, DC look what you did, brought back a book that people actually bought steadily.
Pick up the trend.

I'm really looking forward to learning about one of the brand new characters, the one with the bowler hat.
So far the line-up includes Catman and Black Alice returning, while new additions to the Six include Strix from the Talons, and the new Ventriloquist Shauna Belzer from Simone's run on Batgirl.

Has anyone read the start of the new series?
Also, the two new characters are called Porcelain (the one in the bowler hat) and Big Shot (the guy who looks like he came out of a cheap 50s detective thriller).

Got the first issue. Pretty much setup, with a high voltage crisis at hand. But Gail generally takes about three issues to sort out the new stuff and get the series rockin. I don't see this as any different.
The art is a solid c in my opinion. Good art in spots, but the inking makes it muddy and indistinct in places.
Still, it's got her signiture sick, twisted and demented feel to it and I've been missing that at DC, where everything seems antiseptically clean now.
