Just re-read the mini-TPB compilation of "Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow," by Alan Moore, Curt Swan, George Perez, and Kurt Schaffenberger...

There must be more *choke*-worthy moments in these two issues alone than in a barrel of other comics!

- Lana and Jimmy racing off to fight (and die) for Superman: "Nobody loved him better than us. Nobody!"

- Poor Krypto...

- And, of course, Superman's exchange with Supergirl, who's visiting from the future with the Legion, but already dead in the present:
"Is it cheating if you tell me whether I grew up to be pretty?"
"You... you grew up to be beautiful, Kara!"

and

"As the Supergirl of this era, am I away visiting another time period or something? Because I thought you couldn't materialize in an era where you already existed."
"Uh, yes. Yes, you're right... Right now, Supergirl... Supergirl is in the past."

When Colossus returned in Astonishing X-men (about number 6). The look on kitty's face and the subsequent panels of her just standing there shocked....i was speachless.

i was truly flabergasted by a comic. i think because colossus seemed DEAD for a while at least, i didn't expect him to return especially them.

i grew up reading the uncanny x-men with kitty and colossus. so his return and her being the one that found him......was great.

i jumped out of my chair and literally didn't believe it.

Goodbye Chunky Rice made me cry because it was about missing friends and stuff...and i was missing friends and Stuff. Also Pedro and Me was pretty tearful in parts.

Remember : It's not technically a suckerpunch if you yell ''DEFEND YOURSELF SPROCKER!'' two seconds before you let him have it.

Power Man and Iron Fist #125. Fist was my favorite hero at the time. He died that issue. I cried.

Haven't read Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow - but I was talking to some of the comic store guys and trashing Bizarro stories, and one of them said I had to read Moore's book just for the ending (which he told me - but I won't spoil here). It sounded very touching.

I think the comic that made me upset (but not weepy-upset) was the conclusion to AVENGERS 177- Chapter 10 of the "Korvac Saga" - all those heroes being struck down (save for Thor and Moondragon) and the truly "sadistic" touch where at the point of death, Michael and Carina almost touch but fall down dead just mere inches from each other's outstretched hands... frown

That was Jim Shooter's finest moment and he deserves the accolades he received for crafting such a tale full of thwarted, warped ambition and relentless carnage (or what could pass for it as per the Comic Code guidelines)... shake eek

Sorry Drake! shocked

I had a nagging sense of deja vu when I was starting the thread -- I did feel as though this topic might have been brought up before. (But a search for "cry sob choke" in the subject line didn't bring up anything...)
