I bought Hero at first because it didnt matter if it was in continuity or not - it was supposed to be a collection of quirky one of stories as far as I could tell.

That's why I stopped buying it 2 issues ago - all the 24 page fight scenes were getting too much for me!

I wonder if the sexist-construction-worker-stuck-in-the-body-of-a-woman-who's-now-working-as-a-stripper former H-dialer will make an appearance?

Well, HERO has come and gone with issue # 22.

Never a top favorite of mine, but always a solid read, I thought.

I do rather wish Chris and Vickie had been used in this final arc, as it seems Reed would certainly have sought them out for help. And I wasn't super-impressed with the wiping out of all the H-dialers from this series, though I understand whyit was done.

And why wasn't the "transexual" H-dialer from the previous arc used? Such omissions were enough to damage somewhat the final arc for me.

I did like how the ending tied into the previous caveman-issue of HERO.

I'll kind-of miss this series; it was a little different.

I thought they wrapped up the series relatively well... it was really cool to see how the H-Dial ended up in the hands of that caveman (thus tying that stand-alone episode into the larger storyline).

Does this all mean, however, that the H-Dial can't ever be used in any future stories that don't occur in between the Robby/Chris/Vickie era and the last run? They seem to have created an infinite loop...

Nope - isn't the design of the H.E.R.O. H-Device (not even really a dial) different from all the prior ones?

After all, one of the dials has to end up in a museum some day...

Well, the ending has Robby sending the dial back in time, where it's found by the caveman who wer saw in issue # 11. The caveman died on the moon, so presumably that's where the H-Dial is, no indication that it found its way from there into the cave where Robby found it. There's no reason it should be assumed to be in an infinite loop...the thing could be said to have stayed there until the present, or to have been retrieved at any point in the past, so it still remains an available plot device, moving forward in time like everything does.

I was pretty disappointed with the ending. The way Tony Finch saved the day came out of nowhere. No resolution of the Joe/Electro-Lass plot. Not even a sniff of Chris, Vicki or Hero Cruz. Maybe that sounds like a lot to ask, but so much of the last eight issues felt like filler to me (those four-issue arcs could have easily been compressed into three issues each, possibly even two), you'd think at least some of that could have somehow been included.

discovered this late, picked up the last 8 issues in a 10-cent bin and then went for the first trade

i liked the serial killer stuff tying in most of the other storylines, but the finale felt like rushing towards nothing

and i kept on waiting for chris, hero or vicki to pop up

Yes, the omissions of Chris, Vickie and Hero Cruz hurt the finale for me.

But in a way I can understand their omission-- the writer didn't want to make things TOO easy for Robby, I suppose... but it might have been interesting if Vickie (who, iirc, was last portrayed as mentally unstable) decided to side with the bad guy.

Well, at least this way, Chris Vickie and Hero aren't dead, anyway. And we know they'll each have inherent powers now.
