It's his own fault really... no one can resist trying to put a dent in such a shiny metallic surface. wink

Capt Atom's DC's punching bag -- he's high level in terms of powers and has a certain level of name recognition, but doesn't have the following to garner enough respect from DC to keep him from getting his ass handed to him from time to time.

My guess is that he'll have his head handed to him in Superman/Batman soon, too.

But the JLA/Avengers loss has to be the most humiliating.

It'll be interesting to see how he fares in the upcoming dust-up with Superman and Batman in the upcoming issue of Superman/Batman.

Nuttiest line of issue 5:

"Et tu, Sue?"

Stuff I liked:

EVERYTHING but especially Batman's "I thought you liked her." line. BWA hahaha!

Stuff I didn't like:

It wasn't a 600-Page Spectacular

*sigh* 1 more issue. That sucks! Any word on when the next one is coming out?

Just that its scheduled for next summer. And I don't know if Giffen was being serious or not but back in July he told the following to Newsarama:

Quote
“Guy's back and they're going to Hell. Other than that it's the same "nyuk nyuk" in lieu of plot.”
Guy was the one thing missing this time around. I hope he was at least partially serious in bringing him back.

*sigh* It's over and I loved it so!

Issue # 6 was great, and I especially loved the appearance by the JLA proper.

Nice to see I CANT BELIEVE IT'S NOT THE JUSTICE LEAGGUE get a mention as coming soon, but do I detect the artwork of someone OTHER than Maguire in that li'l circle? I hope not. I'll buy it no matter who draws it but my preference for these minis is Maguire!!!

Maguire also did some really nice pin-ups in the recent JLA-Z. I thought his Beetle/Booster pic was top notch.

I have to say, as much as I liked FKATJL as a whole, I thought the miniseries petered out a bit toward the end, when the Manga Khan segment started.

I'm looking forward to ICBINTJL, though... I wonder if they'll swap out Mary for another Marvel... maybe Jr.? cool

Stu, maybe you had to be reading back in the 80s to really appreciate the Batman/Manhunter appearance.

What I can't believe Giffen missed the boat on was not having MAJOR DISASTER-- his JLI's # 1 "foe" and former head of JLAntarctica-- not show up with the JLA now that he's on the "big team".

Major Disaster would certainly have added some lol to an already lol lol lol comic, unfortunately I don't have enough money to buy it... And I guess it's too much to hope that Doctor Light will show up in the next mini, since she was never really a funny character... But if Ice shows up, I'll buy it no matter what!

I thought the last two issues were the series best, with the return of Manga Khan, G'nort and the robot J-Lo. Lots of lol here!

Sue Dibny might be my favorite character in the whole series!

Having absolutely no interest in the history of this book, and knowing that I'm not too fond of Giffen's Legion stories, I went ahead and bought the trade of FKatJL on a whim. I didn't read any spoilers, I knew nothing about the story other than the characters used to be JL when I wasn't into comics.

That said... I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this title. The writing was great (plot was minor, but the dialogue was fast and quippy) and I got to say the art worked for me too. I don't think I could have had lower expectations going into this book, but I gots to say... I came away smiling. FKatJL is tied with Final Night for my second favorite all time JL story just after The Nail.

Overheard at WonderCon this weekend (according to Rich Johnston :

Quote
WonderCon rumours abound over the "I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League" series. Yes, they go to hell, not to get Guy Gardner but for Captain Atom. And that Guy will be going along, with G'Nort. Look for Dr. Light, Oberon and Mr. Miracle to be making brief appearences.

Damn.

"I can't believe its' not the Justice League" was canceled because of stupid Identity Crisis. I had no problem with it as a story but by killing Sue, they apparently killed the story.

GREAT Job DCU.

I was looking more for Mary Marvelness!

Sadly, to a friend, I had to pretend she and Captain Marvel were Seventh Day Adventists since he couldn't understand the joke about why they were stuck in the 1950s.

The story was solicited THIS MONTH. It'll be appearing in JLA: CLASSIFIED beginning with #4 (if memory serves).

I was just saying to my comics-shop owner today, Keith Giffen is a very frustrating guy for me. He has a LOT of talent-- more in some areas than others-- but his last run on the LSH, he tried being a penciller when clearly, he'd gotten out-of-practice (if he ever truly was in practice), and his "art style" seemed nothing less to me than thumbing his nose at his own fans. (And this doesn't even get into the PANDORA'S BOX of escalating chaos unleashed "thanks" to the arrogance of Mike Carlin!!!!!)

So what happens? FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE was my #1 FAVORITE DC book last year!!! That's what can happen when you have the right guys, each doing the right jobs for them. Hey, did anybody ever accuse Harvey Kurtzman of being a great "illustrator"? I don't think so-- but that didn't stop his MAD comics from being some of the best-written, best-DRAWN, and funniest comics in the history of the biz. (Sometimes I wish I could hire "illustrators" myself, so I could just focus on writing & page layouts. I'd get a lot more done that way.)

We'll agree to disagree re: Giffen's art-- I rather liked his blocky, big-lipped style on 5YL LSH, The Heckler and most recently, that fill-in issue of THE LEGION.

And I cannot WAIT for this arc to hit JLA CLASSIFIED!

My father loves that style, especially the nine-panel grid (and I've got to say, I agree big time).

I like that he has a style all to his own, and I like the way he uses word balloons to pace the story differently.

I also can't wait for this!

I understand the story might be about getting Ice's soul from Hell. I hope Mary Marvel won't be removed because of it.
