True to form I got the LAST copy in the store today, but I finally got it!
To tell ya the truth I thought I'd missed out for a minute, but then I found it, all by itself waiting patiently for me to pick it up and take it home. Yay!

You're kidding! Right? Night Flight one of the paragons? They do not offer a discount for established buyers with holds, they require a deposit from people who do have holds, they regularly do not order the books on your hold list and trying to get a refund from them from a hold that was pre-paid for (but they forgot to order) or a special order for a book that may have been cancelled is as close to impossible as I care to get. Their back issues are normally set at the high end of the price guides and they are the only store I have ever been in that doesn't have some kind of discount or 'quarter' bin. Books you can normally get 3 or 4 for a buck elsewhere are priced at cover price (if above a dollar originally) or 25 to 50 cents more than cover. Luckily Dr. Voltz is still around and I can pop in there for the ocassional pre-shipment copy. The last time I went to NF for a book was for that Simpsons Legion parody. They were the only one (we had five shops at that time) who had a copy. And what did I have to pay for a book a week off the shelf that went for $2.50 cover price? $3.00. A 50 cent hike for a book a week old.
