It's a shame I missed this book...
PAD crafted a very modern, timely story this issue. It's a shades of grey story, one of those would-you-kill-Hitler-if-you-could stories.
Woodward's art very nice to look at.
Just spouting off.

Fallen Angel announcement at PAD's blog : Fallen Angel Fans and everyone else Issues 22-25 is going to be a major story arc in the life of the Fallen Angel and her base of operations, Bete Noire. It begins with a series of events as seen from the point of view of a small boy who sleepwalks his way into the city and finds himself in the middle of a war zone. That's #22. Issues #23-#25 depict full blown warfare in Bete Noire as a new player arrives with a simple goal--To snatch control of the city from Jude and remake the world in his own image. The status quo will be massively shaken up, long time cast members will die (and no, they won't come back, ever) and unexpected characters will be returning.
You really shouldn't miss it. I have to admit that, over the past several months, I've been letting my non-superhero comics purchases turn into big unread piles. This announcement jolted me out of that laziness, and now I'll have to catch up with the book before this major storyarc begins.

And things are shaking up in Bete Noire. We don't know who is safe and who's in charge, and who's on who's side.
But it sure is a fun and exciting piece of confusion.

I've just been reading this without comment for awhile now, but have been enjoying the new status quo for Bete Noire, and for Liandra. Her quest with Jude and Mariah looks to be picking up next (or this?) month in #30. Can't for my next shipment.
PAD lays some eggs (anybody following his She-Hulk?), but never with FA.

Fallen Angel is just going from strength to strength at the moemnt. The whole war in Bette Noir storyline got a little confusing at points but the last few isseus with Li, Jude and Mariah on their quest have been great. The last issue especially was particularly good and had some great little jokes in it (especially the bit about God sometimes being a little girl and the blatant nod to Supergirl).

And the fall of Bette Noir arc is nearing conclusion. It's been a fun trip, full of great PAD ideas and concepts.

I can say now that Black Mariah is my favorite character by far here (and I generally like most of the characters, particularly Benny, who is just super-cool). PAD really seems to have a lot of fun with her, and I like how she is based on the notion of a black widow spider, yet feels such tremendous pathos for her lovers deaths (and is generally not responsible for them).
I've been reading since day #1 and still am, and I continue to contend this series is PAD's masterpiece. Its level of quality and fun is beyond his best work to date. Some times the book may seem to drag but the next issue will always pick things right back up and I suspect a reread of several issues in a row would alleviate that feeling all together.

I lost this book for the longest time because my local shop, for some reason, wasn't putting it in my pull. Either that, or someone was removing it before i could get it. But i have in the interveening(sp?) time found most of the back issues.
Its taken a definately darker tone than last i saw of it, but the book itself is still hitting very good highs. A DC loss if ever there was one. Love the inclusion of Sax and Violenze. I remembered them from a half-collected PAD/Perez storyline.
Still, PADs throwing out some wierd vibes on this book, and they just keep getting better.

Well we have a conclusion to the fall of Bette Noir. And to the book itself. This week we get the final chapter of the story, and the cover notes this is the last issue.
PAD plays things a little philosophical, but this book has always been a thinking man's action story. There's some finality to Black mariah's sibling rivalry, as well as Benny's benevolence. In true FA fashion, Liandra saves the day, but I'm not sure I should be celebrating.
It is noted after the story that Fallen Angel will return this summer with a new number one. I'll be sure to pick it up.

FA is difficult to collect via trade for the completist. I'm pretty sure DC has not collected the entire first series, nor has IDW done so like Dynamite did with The Boys. When is someone gonna get off their ass and correct this?!?!

I haven't read the last issue (its sitting on my night stand in my current 'to read' pile) but interesting to hear this is the last issue and very thankful to hear its coming back.
Like I've said 1,000 times, I believe Fallen Angel is PAD's masterpiece. While some of his other runs have been magnificent (Young Justice, Hulk, Aquaman) and some of his runs have had some ups and downs (X-Factor, Supergirl), Fallen Angel just seems to be PAD at his very finest. And I think he's one of the great comic book writers of my lifetime.
But I know PAD...probably better than I know any other writer's work...and when he's starting to get burned out, you can sense it. So I think whenever he decides to take a brief break, regain his energy and restart, its a good thing.
As for this latests storyline--fantastic. PAD's writing of Black Mariah might be my favorite PAD written character ever.

Yeah, I have managed to get most of the back issues now, and while i hate to see the book close, i think PAD knows what he is doing.
As for the book itself, it was a satisfying conclusion. A nice twist of fate, and a redux that will be interesting.
PAD does have a thing...and this will be a little spoilerish, for portraying God as a kid with a stick. This time its a girl with a tennis racket.
From what i saw, the next book will be Fallen AngelS, plural. That should be interesting.

Lardy, DC did release all of their FA content in tpbs. There are 3 I believe. IDW has 3 out as well. There is a shift in the story taking place with the IDW move, so don't feel you need the DC collections.

Maybe the the later one(s) is/are out of print? (In any case, ceej, I'm a completist about books like those!)

Just when I was starting to possibly feel a little tired of Fallen Angel, PAD sets the pace for a great new way for the series to relaunch. The new status quo looks really, really cool.
I can't wait.
Even if I have no clue who the heck Illyria is.

Apparently she's a character from IDW's Angel title based on the Buffy vampire guy,m'I right? And FA REBORN was in my DCBS solicits for May books, due in stores 7/29.

Huh.
Fallen Angel Reborn # 1 was kind of a let down. A well-written, well-drawn comic, but one that felt like half an issue stretched out to twice the necessary length.
<span class="spoiler_containter"><span class="spoiler_wording">Click Here For A Spoiler</span><span class="spoiler_text">Lee doesn't ever appear until the last page!</span></span>
But I have faith in PAD that he'll hit his stride soon.

# 2 was something of an improvement, although PAD went overboard with the jokes for the first two-thirds or so.
I really like the current status quo for Lee's son; he's become my favorite Fallen Angel character.

Just read #1 of the relaunch and came here to explain why I thought it was a let down, only to see you thought so too Stealth.
The thing is, I don't follow Buffy and Angel, so I don't really care about Illyria all that much. So Lee not being in it didn't really help me. Great to see Benny, but it was only for a brief sequence (though I love how he's always the first person people meet).
As I've said in numerous threads, I feel I know PAD better than other writers and I'm aware that sometimes he feels he's a fan of Whedon's stuff, but I've always detected a sense of being envious of him; perhaps even confused why some of his stories haven't reached out to Whedon's fans, particularly his run on Supergirl. So with that in mind, its kind of distracting and annoying that he's trying to hard to reach that segment of fans. On the one hand, I'm aware its a good business move; on the other, I kind of want him to stop feeling so envious of Whedon and his fan base, since I think he's a superior creator and writer than Whedon. But I could be reading too much into it...then again, thats what I mean about it being distracting.
Hopefully we get more Fallen Angel and her cast hereafter.

Well, by issue #4, I'm confident in saying that PAD has refound his footing and delivered a pretty awesome story. Though I care little about Buffy or Angel, I have begun to really enjoy the interplay between Illyria and Lee, and think its worked really well to keep the story moving.
I'm actually loving the new status quo for Jude. The idea of the City talking to him, which surprised Lee (and made you think perhaps Jude knew more than she did) was perfectly followed by Lee's telling him "the City lies", showing he doesn't quite know as much as his mother after all. Its probably my favorite mother/son combo in comics even though its definitely one of the most offbeat.
Though some characters like Jubal and Bumper are pretty 'meh' for me, others like Asia Minor, Dolph and Benny are just great. I could read a comic with them sitting at the bar drinking for 22 pages.
So okay PAD, well done. I hope you got some new readers.

I'm just glad the Illyria arc is over (though I give PAD credit for a clever ending which will undoubtedly have repercussions down the line), and now the book can get back to business as usual.

Anyone know what the plan is for this book? A series of minis, or maxis, or is this another ongoing?
I do like PAD's work here, it's some of his best stuff. But even he commented on the feasability of an ongoing that's lasted 20 years or more.
Just spouting off.
