There's an interesting article at ICv2 about this where it is brought up that Archie has done a far better job of courting the 'tween' market than DC or Marvel.

My favorite quote:
"DC has a sixteen year old Supergirl reconfigured by Joe Kelly (a talented writer whose work I intellectually appreciate but can't say I often actually enjoy) as a Satanic Teenage Time Bomb. And Marvel fifteen year old X-23, a teen girl Wolverine clone who up until recently was an assassin and part time prostitute who wears black leather bondage gear."

I take pride in my mental instability.

I'd get it made into a t-shirt if I could find a larger copy of the original B&W and color it better. That was one of my first computer coloring attempts a few years back.

Leapin' Jeebus! At the Drug store today I bought... ARCHIE'S PALS N GALS Double Digest # 108! Just on a flip-through I notice there's a JOSIE/PUSSYCATS tale, YAY!!
I may have to start buying these periodically again. I think my last one was bought about 1991.

Note price: $3.69. But it's tons of pages.

That's why I buy my digests with my books from DCBS . Only about $2.20 each. Of course every time I see one of my old double digest from the 80's with their promise of over 240 pages for $1.50 (average) I can almost weep. The doubles today are about the same size as the regular digests of old.

Anyone get this new Betty & Veronica story? I thought it was a good story, certainly a bit more involved and serious (continuing over 4 digests) than the usual fare - and I got used to the art pretty quickly.

Since I already get the monthly double digests I received it but only just read it. Story-wise it was okay, longer than most digest stories. Art-wise, well...it was passable. The secondary characters, Jarvis, the maids, Mr. Lodge, seemed to be afterthoughts to me. Not as much attention paid to them. And the black and white in the theater to show they were in the dark wasn't the best either. But, all in all, I enjoyed it. Much better than the two or three repeated stories they would have run in its place.

Anyone not wanting to pick up the double digests can get the trade in September.

The second half just came in for me last week. Haven't read it yet but am looking forward to seeing more of the character updates.

It continues pretty much as you'd expect. Although the characters are presented more realistically than in the regular Archie comics, it's a bit unbelievable that Nick is the only rotten kid in the school and that he's hanging out with the good kids (the Archie gang) instead of taking Veronica to join the outlaws.

I wonder what the young kids think of this.

I'm glad it's going to be TRADEed... I missed all the DDigests, and $7.49 is a nice price.

I'll e-mail my CBS about this.

You know, I always joke that I have a crush on Veronica, but my real life fiance is really kind of similar to Betty. She kind of looks like Maxine Hunkel though.

I need to buy more Archie issues...its been waaay too long!
