Babs and the Huntress review some of the recent BOP try outs.
It was a solid done in one issue- we get an idea of the people Oracle has connections with, and the rebel streak the Huntress brings with her. Not a lot of follow up on last month's surprise ending tho'.
Just spouting off.

A great done-in-1 issue indeed, I can see a first-time reader becoming a fan based on this issue. I loved the flashbacks with Phantom Lady, Black Orchid, etc.

I was disappointed in seeing the naked, floatie hair Black Orchid. I vastly prefer the lovely costume from the 1970's.
I enjoyed how Huntress echoed moments in the flashbacks, though I *didn't* particularly like how those flashbacks made those heroines look less effective than regular BOP characters.
I'd like to see those gals get a second chance, though why *they'd* choose to take opportunity of that chance would be beyond me.
On the other hand, given Barbara's standard in choosing her agents ('helping' them-- and by help I mean running their lives), maybe her criticizing Orchid, etc. is a *good* thing.

A done in one tale- featuring Oracle facing off against the Calculator, literally. And Tony Bedard made it fun and exciting, even giving the Calculator a little humanity.
Oh, and Barda fans should probably check out Countdown this week for some craptastic news.

You're right about giving Calculator some humanity - I am actually starting to like the guy. I really enjoyed this issue, although I still want Dinah back.

McKeever has two issues in now. the first one was okay, but this follow up was much better. He's not abandoning Misfit, and Black Alice is back.

I'm fine with Bedard writing the book. His fill in issues on BOP and LSH were impressive. I enjoyed them more than McKeever's BOP work.
And to see them both running with Misfit instead of ditching fills me with all kinds of gooey feelings.

#122- I liked the Manhunter memory-restoration scene. Particularly, I liked Zatanna's bow before she disappeared. The more Zatanna's stage magician persona is utilized, the better I like the character.
Love Zinda, kind of annoyed by Misfit and I can never remember Grey Girl's name. Oh, yeah- Infinity. How do you feel about this new character? Gotta confess, I forget she's there from month to month. At least I remember Misfit.
The last page is quite a visual. Joker in a cop's uniform. Now that's scary.
I'm not a Joker fan by any stretch of the imagination, but a face-off with Barbara *is* a story that needs to happen.
Isn't he driving R.I.P.? Or am I confused (I'm not a bat-title reader).

I'm not loving this since Gail left, even less so since she took Nicola Scott for the new Secret Six series. (Though I AM really excited for that book...) I liked Kate having a home while her book was "on hiatus", and she's a pretty good fit here. I'm preordered up through 124 or 5, so it's got a little longer to grab me. A different art team would help.

Bedard gives us a tail of Dinah and Babs on the road, while Huntress and Infinity handle a rescue operation. It's not a great story, it feels exactly like it is, a story written to make the cover work.

VanHook Talks Oracle Mini at CBR. He's got the Nightwing art team of Kramer & Leisten and it's only a 3-issue mini, but that cover's awful purdy.

BATTLE OF THE COWL: THE ORACLE: THE CURE #1 (enough of a title for you?)... a decent reintroduction to the character for those that didn't follow her in BIRDS OF PREY. She's back in Gotham City, ensconced in an apartment building with 'normal' neighbors (why do I think that's a huge mistake? Just give her a corner of the Batcave, already...), readjusting to life post-Batman, reconnecting with her father, maintaining a network of hackers- one of which meets a grisly end in a puzzling online/real-life murder?
The Calculator's involved, after his own unexplained power-up. Wendy, the one from the Teen Titans who was mauled by a dog from Hades, is in a coma and now in Gotham. Calcie's vowed to help her.
Fulfilling the 'Cure' in the title, perhaps? One Barbara will share?

#2-- I get the feeling this might not have started life as an idea for a mini-series.
Barbara and The Calculator seem out of character to me. I'm reading this story and linking it with WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE CAPED CRUSADER. Here, reality isn't supposed to be splintered. I don't think.
The hacker gang was sort of fun, in a geek-frat boy kind of way.
Oracle and the anti-life equation is a really strange combination. Maybe that's why I mentally 'disconnect'.

Well, some damn good news today: Birds of Prey is back !! And by Gail and Benes! Well DC, you screwed up pretty bad but seems like you woke up and realized it. Time to get this train back on track. I hope its Babs & Dinah--anyone else is icing on the cake.

This is honestly the comic Gail was born to write. Hopefully she realizes that now, and plans a 300-issue arc that commits her to it for the next 25 years.

So what's she dropping? She let BoP go to work on WW, a run I'm still not enjoying after every effort to give it a chance. Much rather see her off WW if anything... Secret Six is too awesome for her to let go of!

Hell yeah she's back on BoP. And i hope she runs, not walks, away from WW. Let those whinny, neurotic idiots over there have the lesser female DC star. Sorry, but the very good work she's been doing over there receives nothing but bitching and kvetching.
We got BoP back, now, lets work on Nightwing!

Pov, please dont' take what I said the wrong way. Nothing wrong with not liking it. I was refering to the rather assanine and vile little creeps that turned not liking the direction into a personal vendetta over on the DC boards. Not you.
