Pick up some back-issues of Gail & Ed's run-- you'll like 'em and I betya SHE'LL read 'em too!

Icey, I flipped through R&T # 1 at the store; didn't see anything that caught my interest on the flip-through so I put it back...

I just started reading BoP with this story arc. Can someone tell me who Savant is?

Savant is the BASTARD villain featured in Gail's first storyarc on BoP.
He put Babs and Dinah through sheer hell before they (with help from the Huntress) took him down.
Looks like Gail's setting him up to be BoP's primary nemesis.

Arachne, he's also very brillant and physically strong. But his one major weakness is that he has a terrible memory (I'm not sure if it's long-term, short-term or both), a medical condition.
Since he figured out who Oracle was, it's up in the air as to if he can remember it. Which is why he remembers that what she looks like, but not her name.

Interesting. Does he remember what he did to Canary? (I'm assuming he's the guy that held her hostage and broke her arm.)

I'm pretty sure he does, since he's never mentioned that he doesn't. So I'm going on the assumption that he remembers the whole thing, just not the minute details like Dinah's real name (although he very well may remember that).
Another interesting point- the person that Savant refers to as his only true friend ever that is stuck in prison, is his partner in crime that Canary, Huntress and Babs put away. What Savant doesn't realize is that this long time friend is really gay and is in love with Savant!

But if he doesn't remember it then he's not going to know enough to mention it. Ah, I love a good twisty villain.

I picked up the Trade: Of Like Minds (reprinting BoP 56-61) over the weekend and read it. Not bad... overall I think Gail writes comic books very well. Her Agent X stuff was pretty good too, I just wasn't interested in doing the it's really Deadpool... or isn't it, plot again.
I like the way she handles the interactions between characters. I am really looking forward to her Legion arc and seeing how she handles the interactions of the team in so few pages.

I'm not sure (this is remembering off the top of my head) but i think Savant actually has an OK memory but no actual perception of time passing in a linear fashion. Basically that means he's not sure what he has or hasn't actually done and has difficulty differentiating real life from his own imagination. I'm pretty sure that in one of the first issues he's in he actually explains it fairly fully. He's not an Idiot Savant (ie: a genius at one specific thing but very mentally challeneged in almost every other area) but I think it's related to that. He is a genius but he can't funstion in society like a normal person. So I guess that makes him not quite a psycho in the same way that most Bat villains are but still a big threat.
I have to say I'm loving BoP under Gail's control. Ed Benes I sometimes really like (he's got a very good sense of visual humour and some really great facial expressions) and others times don't like at all. He is still a bit too cheesecake for a title which is pretty much the only DC one that is clearly aimed at girls as well as boys. I guess by having cheesecake art DC think that they'll get both the boys and the girls. Not sure that's a good idea. But in the meantime I think he's a good artist, consistent and seems to be good at keeping to deadlines (I think we've had a sort of half fill-in issue so far and he's been on the book a while) so I'm certainly not asking for someone new on the title, maybe just a wee bit less cheesecake.

Yeah, Bevis, you just summed up Savant's memory thing pretty well. I couldn't remember exactly what it was. So that's it, everyone!
Benes is a bit cheesecake in his art, but goddamn, I'm in love with the Huntress! And I've never seen a sexier Cheshire or Shiva (especially Cheshire) not to mention Dinah and Babs! He does draw attractive men too though, Gail said in an interview that she specifically told him to!

I really like where Gail is going with Dinah and Lady Shiva. Maybe we'll get to see her hand Batman his head eventually...

This is a pretty dang cool thread. Guys, thank you so much. It means a LOT to me that people are buying my stuff, but it means ten times more when they're enjoying it! Yay! Some REALLY cool stuff is coming up. Hope you guys stick around...I think we're doing things pretty rare in the DCU. Hope you like, but let me know either way, okay? Best, Gail

(Seriously, though, that's great to hear. That outfit wasn't one of Jim Lee's better moments... )

I had been thinking of dropping Birds of Prey, but the latest storyline with Shiva-Black Canary-Cheshire and Babs being captured has been real good. Writing like this will keep me reading the book

Thanks for stopping by Gail! As you can see, the majority of us love Birds of Prey, to the point that we're trying to get others to pick it up! As I've said in this thread and others, I love what you've done with the title. My favorite aspect, though, by far, is the way you've written Huntress! In only a few issues, you've made her my new favorite heroine of the DCU. I just can't get enough of her--that she kicks ass, has no qualms about saying what she feels, but also has a good sense of humor (and is a hottie ). Dinah and Babs, I've always liked, and I like the way you're writing them. And I love, love, love what you're doing with Lady Shiva, particularly her friendship with Dinah. Her punching Cheshire in the face was priceless! (And I really like how you write Cheshire too!) Oh, and tell Ed Benes that his art is some of the best in comics right now! Beautiful people all around (men and women) and dynamic fight scenes.

I think you guys are forgetting one important thing: she looks pretty damn hot in that outfit! And...it works well...in fights...I guess...
