I got sucked in against my will--if this is going to be half the "tour of obscure regions of the DC universe" 52 was, I'm in, if not, I'll lose interest...especially with what it costs to maintain a weekly title.
The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.

I have to say this is absolutely a boring comic. I am only picking it up for Legion appearances. I think it is failrly terrible.
I just can't BLOK it out!

Well, issue 39 was better for the art and the Legion appearences. Really liked the KK and Trip part of the book. The rest of what's happening? No interest. They aren't really developing a story. Blah.

With all the talk of COUNTDOWN being the spine of the DCU, I'm starting to look at it in a different light. Where as 52 was telling a specific story, this book seems to be about the DCU not focused on in any of the titles. Sadly, I don't think they've done a decent job of it- thinking the weekly format gives them time to build their story, they've dragged on a bit too long.
Having to tie in with the other books, it's been hampered by the speed of monthly titles. And that seems odd for the "spine" of the universe, rather backwards I think.
Carlin mentioned bringing in some artists, but really it's more about picking up the pace.
Just spouting off.

Okay, so Mary Marvel's story is taking some big steps forward. Her throwdown with Zee did gain her any sympathy, but I think that's the point of her story.
Donna and Jason bore me. They are just one misadventure after another. This week's scene could have been skipped altogether. We'd have one less person speaking ominously just off camera.
Ditto with this week's Jimmy bit. It isn't moving the story along. His plea for JLA membership was just painful.
KK and Una bring up the excitement a little bit. But their hunt for Mister Orr seemed rather quick for a guy ORACLE wasn't sure was real.
Please Mr Dini, pick up the pace.
Just spouting off.

I would be avoiding Countdown like the plague if it wasn't for the "KK/Una" storyline. Piper/Trickster is the only other one that even begins to interest me, and I'd like it more if the characters were more like they were in Flash before the behavior modification story. I liked that both characters were reformed, and Piper was one of Wally's closest friends.
I'm really starting to think that Una is the "dead" part of Triplicate Girl (the one killed by Computo), just as Karate Kid was dead in the classic Legion, and somehow restored.

Interesting supposition, OC. The fact that KK was told he "couldn't" go back at the end of "The Lightning Saga" gives it some weight, I think.

Totally plausible Pov!
Does anyone think this kid is the "real" Jimmy anyway? He's got to be from one of the other 51 earths?!?

Well, from 26 onward the title changes to Countdown to Infinite Crisis, so technically...

I never read "hush" which brought Jason Tood back from the dead. (Did they ever adequately explain how that happened?) And I never liked him as Robin, but I am liking him here.

Hush was the last Batman story I read that I throughly enjoyed. Don't ask me how it was explained (Ra's?) but I remember it being the first Batman story in over a decade that hit on all cylinders for me. Grab a copy of the collection if you can.

Jason's return was "explained" via Superb** punch in the Batman Annual of 2006, during the IC cross over.

I just noticed I didn't get any Countdown books on my order last month with DCBS because of the damn title change. My pull-list didn't recognize the change. If something like that happens mid-series DCBS should change the titles so they still get pulled. But, ultimately, I blame DC for this stupid mistake. What the hell where they thinking changing the name mid-stream? Did they think the series would get better or sell better by changing the title? Idiots. DiDio needs to join Quesada in the unemployment line.

I'm actually really disappointed in Countdown. I like Trickster and Piper, and even Mary Marvel, and you know I have to see what's going on with Val and Lu, but this series stinks to high heaven. None of the threads are really very compelling or remotely interesting at all... damn DC for making me buy it for the Legion tie in!!

Well, compared to 52, Countdown kind of smells nice to me right now To explain that I have to add that I don't care at all for Magic stories and so I thought that a lot of stuff was totally wasted in 52 to the storylines of the Question and Ralph Dibny, both of which I did not even get what was going on in the end. Not to mention the ridiculous conclusion with a giant Mindworm eating (!!!) through reality thus re-creating the Multiverse. D'OH!!! Countdown is a little bit more "down to Earth". I don't know who Holly Robinson is, and I never read a Shazam comic, but I like the storylines with Mary Marvel, Donna Troy and even the two Flash villains I never heard about before. The main advantage of Countdown, of course, is that there is a classic Legion character in it (two characters now). The Luornu we see was the dead one from the classic Computo story to me from the first moment I saw her - it was just the first thought coming to my mind considering the fact that Karate Kid is/was dead as well. The only question I have is when it was introduced that KK is suffering from this virus. I must have missed that even though I have read all the issues...

You didn't miss it. We weren't told KK was suffering from an illness, just that he needed to find Oracle. After she scanned him (not Doc Midnight?!?!) we were told he had a virus. Holly was Catwoman's replacement while she was pregnant, and the two Flash villains were/are reformed, playing the role of double agent more than not and even assissting Wally.
Countdown as a story isn't bad, but it started out slow, and only now is it picking up the pace.
Just spouting off.
