I'm betting Mary Marvel will turn the tables on her corrupter and that will be worth the price of the series.

The New Gods are the biggest draw for me.

Well, Duela's both female and a TITAN character so that bodes ill for her. What a waste if so. It took years to get her re-established into continuity.
Plus we already saw her die in the "evil future-Titans" arc of TT.

I'm hoping it's all tied into the multiverse thing.

Jimmy's storyline may re-introduce some classic Silver Age elements back into his character like Elastic Lad and all those crazy transformations he endured.

Mary's storyline somehow involves her awakening from her coma in the hospital and being power-less (ala like Freddy was at the beginning of ToZ) and what she may do and/or whom she may deal with to get her powers back or at least get back into the superhero biz. Thus the 'Seduction of the Innocent'.

So I just read the first issue.

The overall storyline looks pretty interesting.

I'm not happy with the death, however.

I just read it and I actually really liked it.

I think I prefer it to the first issue of 52 actually. I like the characters that this series seems to be focusing on (Mary Marvel, Jimmy Olsen, Atom, the Rogues, Red Hood, Teen Titans) more than I like most of the characters that 52 revolved around, and the overall mystery of this story seems really interesting too.

Click Here For A SpoilerThe only downside was the death. It was a shame to lose a fun, interesting character like Duela and the reason given for the death doesn't jive with any of her history. Since when is she from another Earth?

A much more appropriate Titan to kill in this story would've been Mirage. She actually is a refugee from another world or another time. And with Terra gone what's the point in keeping her around?

Yeah, that's the big problem I have with the death as well.

So they just randomly reveal that she's from another Earth just to set up the fact that someone is killing people from other Earths?

As you suggest, the story would've been much better if they'd killed one of the numeous people who we've been told over the past few months aren't supposed to be alive or aren't from this Earth.

I read the explanation differently. This Duela looks like the one we saw in the Future Titans East. The Duela that's in the current issue of TT looks different. So I think this was a Duela from another world (and the implication from the Montior is that Jason Todd is as well)

One other thing, in the DC Nation page in the back of this weeks books Didio says "...Your guides to the series, Mary Marvel, Jimmy Olsen, Donna Troy, Kyle Rayner, Jason Todd, Karate Kid, Trickster and Pied Piper, and their stories..."

So it seems Val is slated to play a key role in Countdown!

Ooh, I hope you're right, Vee!

It would actually be pretty cool if she shows back up for her own funeral in the next issue of Titans!

I read that too!
And i want to add this by Mike Marts in the latest article on Newsarama: "MM: Issue #50...let’s see...well, for starters, we have the Man of Steel, the Caped Crusader, the Clown Prince of Gotham and Karate Kid (not Ralph Macchio—the other Karate Kid!)."

Here is the link to the interview of Mike Marts about Countdown following the first issue: Newsarama

I agree with Vee. Though I liked this Duela better. smile Never knew she was known as Harlequin.

I liked this first issue. I haven't warmed up to the idea of Jason Todd coming back until recently. His Outsiders appearance and now this.

What's up with the Monitors? We were talking about Controllers recently...they kind of look the same. Monitors, Controllers, Guardians...Watchers? They all are related IMO. wink

Infinite cosmic power, itty bitty imagination. "Controllers" "Guardians" "Monitors"- let's see some more creative in naming your all powerful race.

So Geoff Johns' Rogues War was all set-up to return Trickster and Piper to villainy? Very disappointing. I really liked the pair's different reasons for 'turning to the other side'. Maybe I can hold out hope that they still are?

Neron'll be out of Elongated Man's booby-trap any time now, anyway. Will his 'curse' be in effect?

Mary Marvel and Madame Xanadu-- now *there's* an odd combo. Can't say I'm excited about adding Eclipso/Jean to this brew-- but I like what's here so far.

Jimmy O. covering Duela's death... brings a tear to my eye-- maybe it was the bow-tie thing they had in common.

Woudn't a Jimmy/Duela team-up be fun? Maybe they'll meet on another earth under another moon...

I actually like these early issues more than 52's beginning. Much more tightly focused. Though the covers don't compare. And that's *with* a sentimental near-favorite apparently gunned down.

Mystery Lad, I think Trickster and Piper are undercover personally.

Re: Mary Marvel? Hmm, first time I've found her intereting. Wonder if she is going to end up with new powers/codename. I hope so. There is a Fawcett Universe now. She and the talking tigers can hang out there.

I read 51 and 50. I'm in for ride.

This completely villainous Duela just ISN'T the Duela from the 70s Teen Titans.

Is this going to end up somehow that all the 52 universes will be completely and utterly closed off from each other?

For example, our ("New earth") Jade died in Infinite Crisis, but we saw another Jade in 52. When all is said and done, she won't ever be able to appear on New earth? I dunno if I'm expressing the idea well enough, but I hope that doesn't happen.

I wanna see lots of criss-crossing!
